I'm playing a 90s JRPG that is very stingy with saves. We're talking an hour plus of gameplay between towns.
I did die a couple times and reload a save state. This is NOT about difficulty, I could have done without them just fine.
I am an adult with responsibilities and my backlog is too damn long to justify doubling the length of a game by replaying large chunks of content repeatedly because of this design philosophy. Call it save scumming, call it "you didn't beat the game", whatever, I can live with that.
Though I think these days I'm not the outlier anymore.

Roguelikes don't really fit in this because they were designed back when games were way less common and way shorter, so they were artificially lengthened with all sorts of things like "start from the very beginning" and "things can instakill your character". There's no actual reason WHY a game should have lives at all, besides to scam more money. 99% of games with a life - game over system could replace it with a modern checkpoint system, and nothing of value would be lost, gameplay wise.

People in the ancient world used to shave with blades, actual daggers. And the philtrum area, while harder than cheeks isn't much more difficult to shave than the chin with a blade speaking from experience.
As to why men started to leave mustaches, imo:
1. men evolved to grow beards because beards cushion punches and hits to the face = higher survival rate and chance to pass the genes
2. Humans evolved to form civilizations
3. Civil men, living in settlements want to distinguish themselves from the savages living in the wild, start shaving beards (Somewhat true even today)
4. Not having a beard is associated with femininity/faggotry. So shave beard to show you're civilized but style it and leave mustaches and goatee to show your manliness (still true to this day)
