Sorry dude but Evanesence is overproduced as shit. Amy Lee is the metal equivalent of Avril Lavigne. Don't get me wrong, Evanesence and Avril Lavigne are guilty pleasures (mainly because of 2000s nostalgia). But Amy Lee's voice and lyricism are pure sadgirl pop, and would be unlistenable if it wasn't for the hard rockin instrumentation

Idk it just really sounds melodramatic and girly to me. Especially the symphonic instrumentation. Not nails on a chalkboard or anything, quite pleasant to listen to actually, but it's still shallow pop. I'll be real, I think I'm almost incapable of taking female musicians seriously. I'll be the first to admit that I'm biased as hell

I don't see the similarities to Avril Lavigne, a better comparison would be Paramore but that came significantly later to the point where it was probably aping Evanescence. And even then that's one band, to call Evanescence derivative or "pop" doesn't make any sense.

Not saying Avril Lavigne and Evanescence sounded alike, but they were basically parallel phenomena. Their fans came from the same place, emotional teens chasing some kind of "safe rebellion"
The only real difference is that Avril kids wanted to scream while Evanescence kids wanted to cry.

>Evanescence blends various musical styles in their music, primarily rock, classical, alternative, heavy metal, industrial, and electronic. Music journalists vary in terming Evanescence a rock or metal band, and many identify gothic elements in their music. The band is generally classified as alternative metal,[284] gothic rock,[288] gothic metal,[293] and hard rock.[297]

A lot of things define pop, it's a complicated thing, but probably the most objective and measurable metric of pop is overproduction. Metallica and Slayer's production are extremely stripped down and minimalist, having no personnel beyond the producer and the bandmembers themselves, while Evanescence's soundscapes are as cluttered and have as many cooks in the kitchen as Taylor Swift's. Picrel is pretty much irrefutable evidence that Evanescence is, by definition, pop. But who am I kidding, you have no fucking clue what I'm talking about lmao. Just a dumb normie with dumb normie tastes and a dumb normie understanding of music

Amy and the guitarist also wrote and arranged most of their own songs
>The album's songs were written by Lee and Moody, with Lee the core writer.[52] The two wrote some of the songs when they were 15 and 16.[14] "Imaginary", "My Immortal", and "Whisper" were originally from the duo's independent recordings in the 1990s.[39][53] Lee composed some of the songs at her house on her keyboard.[54][55] She wrote songs alone first on the piano or on acoustic guitar, and for Fallen she would write a song and work with Moody to "take it to the finish line."[10][30] Lee wrote the album's lyrics except "My Immortal"'s, the melodies, much of the music, pianos, and all the choirs;[58] she is credited with the choral arrangements.[59] Lee also honed in on the string arrangements and electronic elements of the album, some of which are in the background.[48]
Something like My Inmortal is literally a piano piece with a single vocal from Amy. You don't have a coherent definition of what pop, metalcuck. You're just a butthurt loser pretending to be an elitist since the 2000s. 20 years later and YOU still are butthurt.

I believe when people are using "pop" to describe music pejoratively it is to point out that the artist went for a tonal shift specifically towards what was "pop" music at the time. In the context of the OP, "Wake Me Up Inside" only has the male vocals literally because the producer execs thought it would appeal to more people because nu-metal was popular at the time.

When music becomes pop, it means the artistic integrity has been compromised in favor of commercial success. Instead of being one, raw, cohesive vision by a single artist or a group of artists with authentic chemistry and synergy with one another, an entire production team of disposable sound engineers have been brought aboard to optimize the commercial viability of the product. That doesn't mean that pop music still can't sound good, there's plenty of good pop music. But, if you're not retarded, your ear should be able to immediately recognize if something is pop or not

Really similar to Chucks riffage. They went back to brutal death metal after because I’m assuming they thought people didn’t like their softer side which is a shame.

I guess Silent Hill 2 might fit here as well. The rusted metal in the game is similar to that on the cover, plus the metallic sound effects are the exact same things you would hear on TDS. I typically don't enjoy Poppy's vocals, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed her segment here more than Courtney's. Granted, Courtney's segment was ruined by Poppy's screaming being layered over hers. This should have been Courtney's song but they hardly used her.

Dressing in all black, claiming to be witches and serving goddesses, being into herb collecting, "alchemy brewing" and crystal ball/tarot card fortune reading, etc. Mall-witch/Hot Topic Hag maybe? Regardless, a lot of those older women were big into female vocal bands and Evanescence was one of them.
And before you ask, no none of them were attractive. They were all fat and most were missing teeth. Meth and heroin were pretty big in my childhood area.

Many such cases. A lot of bands flounder, especially when their formation is out of spite for the band they left. The Unguided is a strong exception, and is basically what Sonic Syndicate would have been if they never pivoted to garbage like We Are The Night or that weird techno edm thing they shat out after the self-titled comeback album.
It's not entirely relevant, but that band dying immediately reminds me how Adema has been a barely-functional corpse after releasing their second album, never able to keep a vocalist for more than an album or three-song EP, seemingly only keeping together as a zombie band to more easily collect what few royalties they can get.

I actually think a few of the tracks on From Zero are pretty good because they're actually playing into her vocal style and doing something different but still familiar.
What fucking sucks are the tracks that are trying to ape Hybrid Theory/Meteora rhythms with a singer those songs weren't designed for, and this goes triple for whenever she's singing old LP tracks at concerts. it simply doesn't hit the same because they were very intentionally written for Chester.
