It's not even that I don't understand Unity Cup mechanics, I think I get it, I can beat Riko's team consistently.
I am just getting a neverending stream of RNG fuckery. This last run alone I had 5 mood downs, two night owls, and a slow metabolism in just classic year.

What is working for me is to bring 1 Fukutard Wit card for recovery, 3 Speed, Riko and either Rice or Creek for the gold heal.
Then just build friendship in junior but don't laser focus on just that, if you see white arrows somewhere else and you still can upgrade friendship go with it and do this until you have your main cards in orange.
Then try to build the blue balls and save them until you get Rainbow+Ball. 1 or more rainbows + 1 ball is really good, don't save for dual blue ball. If you get 3 rainbows just go for it, don't ignore them because they still give a ton of stats.
Ignore any balls on Guts, either build more white arrows or rest and make sure you always have enough energy to get those Rainbow+Ball, those are not very rare, but missing one really hurts the run.

This is a pretty decent setup, if your trainee has 20% speed growth you can swap out one speed card. Rice's good if you need maestro, if you have an innate recovery you can get away with sparks and riko only, you get 700+ stamina pretty easily.

From what I've figured out by playing a few careers it looks a lot more confusing than it actually is. Unity is essentially a carbon copy of URA, but with that bubble mechanic and some different condition for leveling up facilities which I have yet to figure out. In regards to training, just like in URA you want to get to friendship training ASAP, but at the same time you need to fill up those bubbles on both your supports and all your team members (so the priority in training would be getting to friendship training > filling bubbles) When popping these bubles you get a massive fucking stat boost, so you want to save them until you reach training facility lvl 3/4 and have a rainbow training on the same one. A single rainbow + one bubble is like 50 in a stat.

Basically you just want to play as usual as if it was URA but try to fill as many bubbles as possible when no good friendship-increasing training exists and avoid popping these bubbles too early before your facilities rank up. Doing this gets me around 10.5k-11.5k in score each run when I previously averaged ~9.5-10k in URA.
