you click on the blue balls and that makes that particular support stronger, usually you want to fill as many as you can to get the extra stats, however you also have to take into account getting atleast 1 good ace per distance for the cup races.
your trainee will naturally have big stats so she alone can carry the distance she's runinning, that's your flex, in dirt you get Urara as a starter but usually get digitan or falco early on, focus on one of them
the rest is a mixed bag but focusing on front runners should help, you're running kitasan she's good as an ace for medium or even longs.
try to atleast manually check them once since auto-select can fuck up and put umas with bigger stats instead of important stats, this often happens in sprints.

another good tactic if you weren't lucky with the ball training is stacking all of your good umas in 3 distances to increase your chances of winning atleast 3 instead of trying to have a good team in every distance

URA is still an easier career, you can get away with some mediocre stats while building a ton of affinity via triple crowns.

I think Aoharu could work since you can potentially aim for better stat thresholds and you'll hit a wide variety of good skills to build white sparks but you really can't slack on the career, the URA finale with Little Cocon and Bitter Glasse is no joke, that and the career itself takes a bit more time.
