It's one of the most dissapointing RPGs i've played.
There is something drastically wrong with nearly every single aspect of that game, be it gameplay, writing, music, art direction etc.
Metaphor has the makings of something genuinely fresh and interesting but it obviously had a confused and rushed development, and I can't see how that is not made abundantly clear by how half-baked it all is.

In contrast Expedition 33 is a fucking masterclass in all respects, with the only notable flaws being the menu-ing and the difficulty being wonky depending on how much you were willing to break open the combat system. Otherwise it's a fucking quality experience and genuinely innovates within the genre.

Also for exploration you have a classic final fantasy overworld map that opens up with traversal abilities as you go along. But locations are more like modern games. They dont give you a map at all but they becomes the gameplay and you have to rely on your own smarts to get around like an actual hiking expedition.

Also it has that attack on the map first so you can attack first and I completely forgot about free aim. Where you have a gun to shoot like a FPS to hit weak spots or newtype fin funnel things from Gundam. Lots of variation of the reaction commands you have to do and enemies likentheres one that just bounces on younandozen time and others that do shit. You could compare it to M&L, I think the most accurate way to put it is FFX with an ugly world and characters, with QTE attacks like Legend of Dragoon but easier and not as cool, and QTE defensive actions like Sekiro and Elden Ring. I just said I played them though, I just didn't enjoy them so I stopped. I play plenty of games.

I grew up on RPG's but to be honest as I've gotten older I've gotten way more critical of bad writing and pacing, I just don't want to listen to a bunch of nonsense for 80 hours playtime. E33 actually removed that kind of dialogue that you don't really care about, the gestral village is the one exception, and it's my least favorite area in the game.
