Dark Arisen didn't fix anything, the original game was still (dragon) dogshit now with just a blatant attempt to copy dark souls.

I'm so glad Dogma flopped spectacularly, the fans were a small minority of obnoxious loudmouths that would deflect any criticism by spamming stupid game quotes.

I’m playing this right now and it’s so underwhelming. I don’t know if I’ll finish it. Might just replay Dark Arisen and drop this. There’s so little it does better than a game from two gens ago. It’s absurd.

I made my peace before it even came out. Once the trophies leaked I knew it wasn't going to be what we wanted. Early on the gameplay felt really great and playing around with the mechanics made me think it might actually great, but the longer I played the longer the game and world design wore down on me and I knew it was even more unfinished than the first game.

I believe that they thought he could do it, but it was going overbudget/resources and they pulled the plug because they never wanted to make DD, only Itsuno did, and when they did that he put his hands up and said "ok fuck it Im not doing this anymore" and just wrapped it up and left before the game was out. Game still made money despite this, so its actually really fucking sad that we will not get the game fully realized. Its pointless to speculate what DD could be with another game now, DD showed that Capcom has not got the ambition for it. I would play more DD if they made it but I treat it more like "Ill buy that in a sale" rather than "holy shit another Dragons Dogma game".

I was never a fan of DD1 so seeing DD2 I went "Yup, that's more of that game I didn't like" so the extremely negative reaction to it is extremely puzzling to me

One of the few rare games where I can't just quite put it down, like I don't really want the adventure to be over. The game have its own charms I'm sure, similar to the ones I've played when I was a kid. It might be unfinished, and a tad too much of a mess, but to be honest I'm glad I got to play it. Now with mods, I've practically enjoyed it a thousand times over. Hopefully, they'll release a big update in the future, copium as it sounds.

I really liked the world design, even with the lack of proper loot I found it was interesting to explore, more than the usual open-world at least. But yeah for me the star of the show were the sidequests, specially the Sphinx ones. Having sidequests that take advantage of the game's mechanics to make you think instead of having the usual "go from A to B and do C" felt quite refreshing

Yes. Part of life is coming to terms with the fact that you will be let down at some point. Sometimes things won't turn out as good as you hoped, and you just have to live with that fact. I had a lot of hope for DD2. While I liked some things about it I couldn't help but feel it went backwards in numerous areas. The story and the horrible localization also did not help the situation. Oh well. If there's an eventual expansion maybe Kinoshita can fix the game a bit. Or if there isn't going to be one, perhaps Kinoshita can make the next game better since I imagine he will be directing the series if it continues. The only silver lining I can say about this game is that maybe between DD2 and MH Wilds Capcom will learn not to short-change games for quarterly profits and destroy their brand trust.

No it isnt, I actually played it as recent as last year via the private server. Its a typical MMO, if you liked this unironically just play Black Desert Online, no seriously, its this but with way more content. I do not want DD to turn into a game where level and gear score actually matters and you cant even do damage without it, theres grinding and you have linear progression through the world, that is not at all what I want out of DD. DD2 was dissapointing, DDO was a completely different game with DD in title.It does some cool stuff with the classes but the game itself is just a corridor grind MMO.

The combat has a lot of cool simulated physics mechanics and other small touches that I really, really like. That said, there are changes to the movement and combat systems that I don't like. The map has a few good areas, but most of it kind of sucks. There are a few good quests based out of a couple areas of the main castle town. The rest is worse than DD1 across the board. If someone modded the DD2 combat improvements and a few enemies into DD1, that would just be the best game ever.

This was cool for a few dozen hours but it gets so fucking grindy and boring when you need to level zones, do skill hunts, grind materials, and despite having way more enemy types they feel less varied in how they actually move and fight than enemies in DD2.
The server I played had a 3x exp multiplier across the board on for an event for awhile and that genuinely feels like how it should be balanced all the time because it's miserably slow to level after a certain point for any vocation except Sorcerer. At least at that point it'd feel like a co-op Dragon's Dogma 1 without the shitty MMO-isms

What was missing in the end was mostly story and balance related, the baffling state of some questlines shows they had the quest written out but never had the time to setup the content or presentation for it.

Gear progression overhaul is pretty cool and feels different getting loot in the world vs priotizing vendors. Enemy resistance overhaul is fun for harder enemies/ and statuses being more useful.
