With the exception of chapter 2 and 4's weird paths, it feels like fighting just actively makes your gameplay experience worse. I mean, sure, you can get through it faster, so it doesn't take so long to replay a chapter... but it doesn't really add anything to the experience, you know? Plus, the game has this weird mixed message about fighting being necessary at times, but it doesn't really commit to it. So far, the only entity we are required to fight was the Titan.

In the end, the UT saga is kind of working the other way around, getting back to that nostalgic feeling of being a child and transgressing what's supposed to be forbidden, playing adults. Somehow I cannot really see how children can take a liking at this game, it would be kinda traumatic in a way if they went to the end of the game or a weird route. Take for example Earthbound, its ending is kinda disturbing. As an adult, no big problem, but as a child, I wouldn't be so sure...

I don't know if I'd really count that since it's a mecha, but sure. On the flip side, you cannot NOT recruit La Nina and El Nino. Even if you want to kill the King of Spades, he gets pacified. I get that Snowgrave and Deflowering are meant to be dark and uncomfortable, but part of me thinks it would work better if there was more impact on actually fighting enemies. Part of the problem is that we're looking at a literally half-complete game, but I can't help but feel that the weird route would be better if it was a bit more ambiguous. Like, instead of just mercing the darkners, it could have you being more forceful and demanding Noelle get stronger and more assertive.

The thing is... fighting isn't even NEEDED for the weird route outside of Noelle scenes. Clearly, you are SUPPOSED TO fight (Sword route/original game is all about killing) but currently besides the necessary stuff with Noelle you can do a "pacifist" weird route.
Fighting is kinda an afterthought, it isn't its own route but clearly it is intended to be part of the weird route.
