Whales will attempt to despawn when taking any significant amount of damage. Like the others said, they'll do this by running away to the edge of the map, though I've personally seen them despawn by just being outside of LOS for all players.

If you can aim, any high DPS or damage gun will do. Tenderizer and LibCarb are good choices for that.
Stagger from Punisher / Cookout / Dominator will help you to line up a better shot and keep them at bay.

Stalwart, MG-43 and the HMG still work wonders on them just by sheer volume of fire concentrated on them.

If you get caught by 4-5 predditors at once around the corner, well, Punisher / Cookout will still help you, but some situations, you're just fucked.

I recently became a convert to the Pacifier. As an assault rifle it has enough damage to kill Predator Hunters, and the stun shits all over Predator Stalkers. The stun is also good against regular Stalkers, Alpha Commanders, Red Warriors and Bile Spewers, and AP3 lets you deal with Hive Guards and Bile Spewers. Even against Chargers, it's stupidly good because you can lock them in place with butt shots or shooting into holes made in their torso or leg armor.

Common occurence in /hdg/ - they find one weapon that seemingly does everything better, without trying out the other alternatives and how they function.

Quasar requires some more careful approach due to its charge-up state, but aside from that, it's a laser-accurate EAT shot, removing the compensation for gravity and only having to adjust for target speed.
Same as how the Laser Cannon trades the alpha damage from the Quasar into a more focused DPS sense, requiring good aiming to make the most of it.

Flamethrower works, but falls short due to its main usage being bugs or squids, /hdg/'s least favorite factions to fight. Aside from the bias, the Flamethrower is mainly a chaff weapon that gets outclassed by something like a Stalwart just because you can shoot things from a distance, instead of being right in the face of an enemy, putting yourself at more risk than you should.
Well, that, and the ever-present risk of setting yourself on fire due to flames being wonky, flying enemies like hunters or pouncers not giving a shit about the flamethrower...you get the point.

You could take the Torcher as a primary flamethrower and literally any other support weapon to fill out a role and have a better time than wasting your stratagem slot on the flamethrower.

Quasar is my goto on bots since it pops factories at any range, perhaps try it with a bit more stealth though so you have the time to prepare and aim a shot without getting shot at.

Railgun was always able to break the wings, it takes about 7 shots to break a wing, and like 7 more shots to fully kill a Leviathan with it if you shoot the exposed flesh after breaking off a wing, add between one to four shots more if you aren't pixel perfect with charging.

1. Make it less dangerous at long distance but not harmless. It shouldn't detect and try to attack players farther than 100-150 meters away unless they attack it first. Its attacks should be more accurate at close range, bordering on instant guaranteed death when you're right underneath it, but at long ranges they should be potshots with scant chance of hitting unless you're standing still (so if you're using an AT Emplacement or stationary reloading your Recoilless while out in the open, you should get punished like the idiot you are). I'm fine with explosive ragdolls, but not to the degree it was before where virtually every shot was guaranteed to damage or knock you down. 2. Make it harder to bring down, and more meaningful subsystems. I want it to have a personal shield with AV2 and 2-3 times the HP of a Harvester or Warp Ship shield, and the shield generating component on top of it with AV4. Make the rotating disc on its bottom warp down a single Warp Ship drop's worth of reinforcements if it detects players underneath, then make it AV4 so that destroying it prevents reinforcements. Make destroying the fins and tail impact its flying speed and turning speed.

3. Make it a persistent threat and reward destroying it. Don't let it despawn and be replaced by a new one, have one or two persist on the battlefield until destroyed, then give it 2-5 minutes before a respawn. When you destroy it, you should get 100-200 Requisition Slips added to the mission total (same system as subtracting whenever a civilian/SEAF soldier dies, and it's affected by the end-mission multiplier).

There. Now you have a battlefield monster that takes effort to kill and can fuck you up, but is not bullshit.

No, people mostly don't bother because there's 2-4 of them all the time, they respawn very quickly and there isn't enough firepower to kill more than two at a time unless two people bring AT Emplacements. If there's only 1-2 of them at a time, killing them actually removes them from the battlefield for a while, and their presence is actually more threatening (but again, not bullshit), then people will be more willing to fight them, especially if extra requisition slips are on the line (it helps cancel out citizen and SEAF soldier deaths in megacities).

I am glad leviathans are being toned down in oppressiveness. It was too much on non city maps.

Yet, it seems everyone wants to just curbstomp them like any other enemy and then go back to complaining the Squids are too easy. The leviathan being an unkillable sniper was the entire point and is what made them interesting. It promotes situational awareness.

The whole point of Squids is for them to bog you down in chaff that will distract you from an elite coming in and taking you out. This is a nice difference from hard AT requirements.

You have people complaining about Pred Strain too, when in my mind, they are one of the best factions to play in the game. Yet, people won't change their loadout to adapt and then beg for nerfs.

The playerbase will be this game's downfall. While the outrage is occassionally justified, they are babies at the end of the day.

Squids are probably the worst faction to take Railgun on, just like any other anti-tank weaponry. Leviathan is sort of an exception but not really because you're still throwing your entire ammo load for an enemy there's multiples of and it respawns pretty much instantly.

The explosion allegedly deals more damage to flesh pounds because it hits every body part (11 in total) effectively multiplying the damage by 11 then applying a 25% reduction to the damage.

2475 damage.
You multiply that by 5 for the number of shots it takes and get 12,375 damage. Which seems off because the fleshpound has 6000 HP.
However, I think what's happening is that it takes 5 shots, because you're only hitting the front side of the fleshpound*. Thus halving the output.

Dynamite on the other hand has a much larger blast radius and nearly twice the damage. One dynamite stick alone should theoretically be dealing 3850 damage to the fleshpound even if it's only hitting the front half of it. But even two of them aren't enough to kill one.
