Monsters are pushovers, you get everything in 2 hunts. There’s practically 0 friction. The Arena quests still have 2 fuck all monsters.
I bought the premium edition for myself and a few friends thats how hype I was. They stopped playing after a few days and I stopped at about 180hrs and I typically put 300-500 into the base game.
Additional monsters are going to be lame pushovers too.
In trying to make a game for everyone they made a game for no one.

They won't change anything about focus mode in wilds but mainline drops big core ideas all the time from gen to gen if they want something different. Seasons? Dropped for 3 gens before returning. Underwater? Dropped for 3 gens so far. Clutch claw was also dropped but I guess wounds are basically the same in a way. The only big idea I can think of that portable has ever dropped is prowler mode. So there's definitely a solid chance focus mode won't be in the next portable and maybe not even be in the next mainline. People do need to speak up about it though otherwise they might just keep it

I'm playing MHGU for the first time, skipped all of 4th gen because the original 3DS was way too small and my hands cramped while playing it. I don't think the game is that much harder. I haven't carted once and even killed the Mizu during a Bulldrome quest, but maybe that's because the various style things are busted. Valor style seems just as busted as Offset spam, to be honest.

What it has done is remind me of probably the most egregious thing in Wilds: No fun quest descriptions. It's fucking criminal they copy/pasted all the quest descriptions. Also, I really did miss having to craft things like pickaxes, nets, and bait. It really does make the feel nicer.

Really hope Wilds' expansion isn't dogshit. They'll have to do a lot to fix things. It's possible, but I doubt they will.

I tried NOW on launch and just didn't like it that much. I was stoked at first to play it, but I think my phone isn't powerful enough to run it well because there would be so many instances of monsters not loading fast enough and I'd walk too far for the spot. And then I think I fucked myself by scaling all the quests too hard too fast and only had like one weapon that was strong enough to do all the purple star monsters I'd run into in time. Instead of quick, speedy hunts where I'd tap tap tap, hunts became involved endeavors that took the entire like 90 seconds. It was just too much mechanical investment on a little mobile game for what I wanted.

I don't actually care about graphics and think that's the last thing they should work on. They need to fix performance, rework their dumb story quest structures, make it only a little harder on the whole, and create satisfying ways to use the game's open world structure. There really need to be quests or activities that incentivize staying in free roam and hunting for prolonged periods in one biome or across biomes.

I don't actually think the difficulty is that big of a deal. In my time with GU, Gathering missions take the longest and no hunt has taken over 10 minutes so far. I guess it's part of the game's low difficulty, but I think in Wilds they just need to rework the way wounds work and focus strikes automatically flinching monsters. I guess they could beef up damage and health for monsters a little bit.

What I want out of Wilds is an actual reason to use it's open world format. I want a reason to stay out and hunt random shit for a few hours. I unironically want some kind of Guiding Lands system. It was nice to grind shit for a few hours to get some major target to spawn in that would then let me build towards some endgame item or cosmetic. If Arch-Tempered monsters weren't just an event thing, maybe hunting enough monsters in an area could draw out an AT Apex. Something like that.

There's hope I think, they're asking for feedback in the actual game so the abysmal player retention and bad reviews probably had an impact. MH1 > MH2
* Dos focuses more on expansion, new types of monsters unrelated to those of the original game with different fighting tactics, twice the amount of weapon classes to choose from, elaborate survival mechanics, including cycling seasons on the maps and a day/night cycle that affects where/what monsters spawn and the materials you can gather, or even change the shape of the map to some extent

MH2 > MH3
* Tri scales back but refines core gameplay. Some weapons are removed, but the ones still in the game are overhauled and fleshed out further, the few returning monsters are significantly revamped, and all of the new ones are much more elaborate and unique to fight against than a monster in MH1 or MH2. Underwater gameplay meaningfully expands on the design space available for both combat and map design while keeping with the series' immersion focused, systems heavy approach

MH3 > MH4
* MH4 is limited by its horrible native hardware and monster lineup mostly consisting of straight PS2 imports with no or little changes from MH2, but the scope of map design is massively enhanced, as maps can now have variable terrain, multiple layers in a single room, and hazards that can be leveraged to the player's advantage, and two additional new weapons increase the overall breadth of combat
