one big difference is that most people are not terrible with their pathing and will actually do the big bosses. Its standard for randoms to run across the entire map for an extra church in the north on day 2 while passing bosses instead of running straight to shifting earth in the south. also many randoms will not fight any big bosses at all until day 2, many randoms dont want to check basement boss of castle until day 2.

Only clearing one gaol puts it on par with or below the other damage boosts you can get from relics. It doesn't start being worth the relic slot until you clear at least two gaols and even then the vendor gaol relic is kind of a waste since the marked chests are mostly useless and even with most erg groups we don't hit enough gaols to make the extra stonesword key worthwhile.

Actual good advice coming through:
There typically isnt a "best" 1 thing to do after starter camp, you should do the closest thing to you that you want to do. if the gaol is closest thing to you then do it @ lvl 2 as a 3 man. if its a fort/cathedral then do that first, if its a fucking mage tower that is closest, then do that at level 2. Try and keep your team moving in 1 direction if possible and not backtracking around the map.

You should be checking castle at lvl 5-6 day 1 every time if its shifting earth so you can get an easy lvl 10+ for start of day 2 to start clearing shifting earth.
For castle you should always check basement asap (fight knights on the way to basement depending on which direction you approach from) so that you can level up at the grace and get the weapon/talisman to make clearing the rest of castle faster. so many bosses will actually die faster than a crucible knight and the boss will always give a +2 weapon and a talisman.

Revenant main here.
Revenant is really fucking good. A well placed Sebastian summon can stunlock half of the bosses.
Frederick does a lot of posture damage and can also stunlock.
Frenzy seal does A LOT of damage. Comparable to Recluse even for little FP. The downside of course being the madness buildup.
The ult is also good for clearing out trash mobs while buffing summons. You can also make Frederick/Sebastian immortal with it so they can take agro for longer.
Revenant haters just don't know how to play her.
