VPKs are just Valve packs, they're compressed versions of folders. A VPK for sounds for instance is just sound/subfolder/weaponsound.mp3 but compressed to a smaller size and can work from the VPK.

What you should do with loose sounds is store them inside a folder named "custom" inside the tf folder. Inside the custom folder you put a subfolder with any name (preferably the name of your addon) and then inside THAT subfolder you add a sound subfolder and follow the same route the original weapon sound has.

You shouldn't really replace sounds directly in the tf folder even if they are stored in the existing VPKs just in case

OK, so let's say you want to replace the buff banner sound. Looking at tf2_sound_misc_dir.vpk (dir files are directories, they compile all the other numbered vpk files of the same type), buff_banner_flag.wav is stored inside sound/weapons. So what you want to do is create the structure of tf/custom/gunreplacesounds/sound/weapons/buff_banner_flag.wav.

You should search where each original file is to know where to place them, otherwise it won't work

Valve shouldn't be adding more maps when the way the matchmaking system works makes it impossible for more niche maps and gamemodes to ever get a full server. This isn't even a MyM vs quickplay issue. Gamemodes like CTF and 5CP just don't fucking work with the round limit. Players start trickling in then the game is over and everyone leaves. Valve could so easily fix this too. Just make it so the server doesn't reset when the same map is voted. Its that simple.
