>What is Marvel Snap?
The GOTY CCG from the creators of Hearthstone. A deck is 12 card singleton. Players play 6 simultaneous turns to 3 lanes. Winning 2 lanes wins the match. Matches are played for ladder ranks (cosmic cubes) and players can SNAP once per match to double the stakes (max 8 cubes).
>What is a card series?
Cards unlock in a random order, but specific cards are unlocked within specific collection level (CL) ranges: Series 1 cards (CL 18-214), Series 2 (222-474), and Series 3 (474+). Series 4 (Rare) and 5 (Super Rare) cards can be purchased directly with Collector’s Tokens that can also be used to buy Series 4 or 5 Snap Packs that are cheaper but dole out random cards from certain pools.

Upgrade every card you get to green rarity (frame break) ASAP. Spend the rest of your credits how you like.

It sounds like you're new. So focusing on getting new cards should probably take priority. But getting cosmetic stuff here and there is fine. If you really like playing Iron Man and you see a nice Iron Man variant then it's fine to buy it.
If you get rank 60 every season and do the conquest rewards and are in an active alliance (you should sign up to [VGS] /snap/ or [VGS] /snap/'s stepsister), opening caches and along with the random ones the game gives away for login rewards or twitch drops then you'll get variants either way.
For some people the variants is the whole game, it's nice to bling out a deck you really like or buy all the variants for a card you're fond of.
And some people don't care and just want every card they can get.
But there's a middle ground.

Cards are easier to get. You get more tokens from the track now than you used to. But they also release more of them.
It's somewhat easier to target cards you want, since you can just outright buy them but you either have to do it in their release week if they're a series 5 or wait for it to show up in the random selection in the shop.

The game itself is still fun, unbalanced but fun

I just played a load of games, slotting Ghost into my usual tech card slot. It's... Fine. Maybe people aren't playing so much End of Turn stuff with the changes, but I only ever caught one Mr. Fantastic and a Warlock across 20+ matches. Most of the time the juicier targets came later as you suggest, when it was better to simply play on curve. The Warlock one definitively won me the game though, as it didn't gain 2 power which would have tied the lane.

The problem the game has is that the matchmaking and rng is manipulated to force a 50/50% winrate ratio.

They kind of neutered bounce move, but trad move has been and still is well and alive. The issue with it is that it's a 50/50 machine. It really consistently sets up these 50/50s very very well (if it hasn't already snowballed to unwinnable for the opponent), but whether the 50/50s are actually good is in the eye of the beholder. Me personally? The game already feels like a 50/50 in a lot of turn 6s, so I think being able to create that scenario extremely often is really really good to the extent that I fucking hate trad move. The 50/50s are also only going to get more consistent and snowball into unwinnable states even more often if they're going to buff enablers like they said they would.
