Might be a massive cope but i got my Big Scam Beyond 2 with the Halo mount and a Babble Tracker. Hopefully by October their Eyetracking model works decently enough. Otherwise thats 1 month of my Europoor salary down the drain for a headset that is just barely an upgrade compared to the Index.

The 3s is basically just a quest 2 with a different label. Most used headsets are actually very lightly used because someone gets one, uses it until they get motion sick, then gives up on it since there's no reason to put it on.

If you intend to watch movies or do anything that requires reading text I think the 3 is required. For most games I honestly think it doesn't matter much but I'm not very sensitive to the worse lenses and shit. If you are strapped for cash the 3S is a reasonable option as everything is a tradeoff. Also remember that you probably need to throw in some extra money in the end to buy a different head strap if you end up enjoying VR.

This TP-LINK hub has worked for a couple of hours without disconnecting. However, every 20 minutes or so there's a lag spike of about .2 s. Not good, not terrible. It doesn't feel like it's low latency, it feels like it's on par with wireless. Maybe I was just tired, however the other one that disconnected after a while felt faster.

Speaking of which here's some notable things from another review from yesterday:

For absolute eye gaze - there isn't, unless you want to wear eye contacts with magnetic coils. Otherwise electroculography can only track relative motion as the baseline of the DC offset on electrodes keeps always shifting.

Then when I imported it in to Unity, I realized it was just a sleeve and part of the jacket was just never modeled so it looks absolutely ridiculous from behind.

The current state of open source facetracking is such a mess. Babble changed their license so people dont really want to contribute. ETVR is doing eyes only but seems stagnant. Babble is supposed to release a test version of their completely new app that supports both mouth and eye tracking, they said soon after some expo but there is no real date and they've already went past other deadlines. Summer the guy that is mainly responsible for the eballs is seemingly working on both babble and etvr. It also seems that main etvr dev and main babble dev dont really communicate which leads to just doing the dev work twice. The previous deadline for eballs was actually already multiple months back.
I just hope the new babble thing releases soonish because I'm almost finished with my full facetracking setup and want to see it working without having to launch 3 separate programmes, two of which being very buggy.

There's a caveat to that plan:
The Arpara tracker, while it for all intents and purposes is just a Tundra Tracker in a funky shape, it has no ability to function wirelessly. So unless you were already using this Quest headset with the USB connection and you don't mind either splicing another USB connection into that run, or running a 2nd cable to the headset just for the Arpara tracker, you're not gonna get very far.

They do, but ETVR and Babble are two entirely different projects with two mostly different groups of people running each with both of 'em having their own idea of how to develop things. Face Tracking has no performance rank impact, it only adds blendshapes and fx layers which are not counted.

That being said it is still fairly heavy because in most cases you are adding 20-50 blendshapes, 120-160 bits of smoothed parameters, and at least one massive blendtree to your controller.

There are several ways to improve performance and how well the FT works with your face but they will be complicated if you aren't familiar with unity animation controllers and blendtrees.

Even if you want to use the FT module out of the box without any unity fiddling your face/hardware combination is going to produce different outputs than the authors face/hardware combination and you will generally want to change the min/max thresholds. For example I don't really go above a 0.5 smile but most modules will have max smile set to 0.85 so by default my smiles just don't really show. You can use the debug panel to see what outputs your face generates and tweak the thresholds to better match it. Most people are not going to notice your FT from normal speaking distance unless your expressions are very noticable.

The big mistake most available FT modules and templates make is that they do the float to bool conversion in your avatar controller, which can add as many as 50 layers and is completely unnecessary since VRCFT can send the bools pre-converted. I believe Jerry's template is the only one that makes use of this feature (it is just 2 layers). You can copy and paste the FT blendtree from a purchased FT module into a jerry template using the MACS plugin (piratable). You may need to rename parameters and make other fixes.

As well, many anime FT packages either don't implement some shapes or they are invisible in practice (such as mouth tighten, mouth press, and some lip movements). You can delete those sections of the blendtree and remove or at least not sync the parameters. If your hardware does not have tongue XY tracking or pupil dialation you can also remove large parts of the blendtree. It may be better not to merge your face mesh into the rest of your avatar to reduce the number of vertices the ft blendshapes operate on.

This is advice that's only applicable to Unity 2019, in Unity 2021 and after the way blendshapes were handled went to a compute shader thing running on the GPU, making the performance impact on blendshapes x vert count negligible.
