Sega has nothing to do with it. Atlus already did the same thing with the P3P script changes back in 2009, pretty much every instance of a character being confrontational against the player is rewritten and toned down for the FeMC route, which is line with how they wrote P4. What we're seeing is that mindset applied to The Answer, they don't want characters to be too abrasive, but in the process, they sanded off what made The Answer stand out to begin with.

I don't know if I fully agree with that. None of the main characters are really that abrasive towards Joker (aside from Goro, but he's an antagonist for those parts and it's in a player-fellating way), and I think that's the biggest difference between P3 and post-P3 writing because that's the stuff they specifically went out of their way to change in P3's post-FES releases.

Before watching the video, I will say that I do believe that having 10 ranks is limiting since a story has to have something to say in each rank to be good. Sumire was split in 2 and nothing happened even with the split focus of 2 5 rank storylines. Makoto doesn't work with her SL being 2 SLs put into one. SLs are a great concept, it does need some innovations in the long run.

I played on release and it took a month for that mod to be released. It does suck since the "intended" way to view certain scenes is much worse than what a mod can do. Different weapons had different ranges and timings on the tartarus overworld in FES. It mattered because shadows moved and reacted a lot faster in the tighter quarters Tartarus. If you wanted door to use a different phys skill in battle, the player also had to get at least a little gud with the weapon in the overworld.
In Reload getting the jump on enemies for free turns is completely free. baby mode easy.
Attacking shadows in P5 is even easier, but I think that version is fun so its ok.

Romances are small but should be a focus, purely for a fanart standpoint since non-romancable girls get shafted hard by the persona community. Even if it's only a couple of scenes, it can make one feel invested even more and rewarded for liking a character. He goes on a tangent about it, but also forgets why people like these games. I don't know why he is defending the lack of reactivity so much for the confidants/SLs. It hurts P5 the most because Ryuji will make the same mistakes in the late game without a line or two saying he's trying not to be so emotional. I don't hate the idea of the journey because of some of the characters being locked being SL/confidants in the party, but the game should respect the player's choice to do the content. It's not even that much people want, more of a line or two showing anything from the side content impacting the main content in any real way. Dojima had it in P4 with how the investigation was doing, but it was only him. I don't think P5 does it at all. He glosses over it and gives a sentence to this main problem with P4/P5's SL/confidants party development in the side content and is forgotten in the main story after their introduction. Confusing for the video to be 20 minutes long and it completely ignoring the main issue of why people like P3's story-based developments over P4/P5's way of doing things. Dude is paying the bills but isn't providing much for his actual content for those wanting to learn an opinion from someone else.
He could have made a video about Fuuka's backstory with her parents being doctors and how the main story/side content ignores aspects of it, with it resolves behind the scenes in Reload and brought up again in Ultimax. There are arguments for and against ideas like this for the series with the concept of SLs/confidants with their role only being an aspect of the person aka the persona mask they share with (you), where everybody has a different mask for everybody around them. Part of this could also be that Keisuke deals with the same ideas and they have different outcomes, with Fuuka finding her own way while Keisuke becomes a doctor. Nobody mentions this with Fuuka since most details in the main story about her are lost quickly due to it being 2 sentences long before Reload brings it up again near the end.

It's why Royal changed it where the cat cannot force you to go the fuck to sleep for a big chunk of the game. If Akihiko texts me to hang out when I want to go to hang out with the Gourmet King, I'm hanging out with Gourmet King even if I'm losing out on Akihiko's content, which in Reload missing certain of the new events locks you out of his other new events. Some of the events, like Junpei's first new one, you can completely skip and get access to the rest. The same isn't true with Ahikiko where you miss out on all of the weapon practicing events with him and the rest of the boys if you never answer him to one of his texts. The main thing I don't like in persona is forced choices or days taken for the plot when I want to do an SL or any other event.

The implication being the idea of training for Junpei and Ken doesn't event exist unless hanging out with Akihiko, which leads to being punished by not doing Akihiko's content even if someone wants to do all of Junpei's content. There has to be a balance. Ryuji's birthday is amazingly done in P5, you can easily skip it without a care and miss out on being able to fish and events with Ryuji and Kawakami. The text for it is the same as any other text he has beforehand, you get it because you want to hang out with Ryuji instead of the game giving such importance with having a text being out of the blue to hang out and getting thought bubble saying I should do it. But missing out on such an event doesn't lock you out of other events outside fishing where the game has so much to do where fishing is minor and only has bonus content for achievements for the thieves den. On paper it seems very punishing but it's not as bad due to the amount of content there available. It hurts P3 more with how the new events are showcased since there is nothing to do outside the new content and what was in the OG game which was minor, missing out on an event becomes brutal when other events are tied to that one you missed. A big part of my ranting is due to Reload not adding much new content to do for the average in game day compared to the insane amount P5 and even P4 has to offer.

But that's the idea, other people also depend on you and you don't get to choose when.
If you leaned into this even harder my idea would be trying something like this
Real clock, if you wait around it will switch between the time of day of morning/day/afternoon/dusk/evening automatically.
Say multiple different people or jobs want your attention today, at different locations and different specific times.
Before class, lunch, afternoon, "dusk" and evening. You still choose whether to accept most meetings.
NPC's will leave the meeting area if you don't meet show, and you can incur a penalty in growth or perhaps reversal or break if failing to appear for important dates.
Instead of instantly teleporting everywhere whenever you agree to hang out or come to work, you will actually have to physically manage your time.
Instead of just "Morning/Afternoon" sharing one slot they would have more individuality, morning and lunch time would function directly for meeting up with people at locations.
You have to actually go to the roof to meet with the person that texted you before class "I'll be on the roof at lunch time" at lunch time.
If you spend lunch somewhere else, then they'll be pissed you blew them off.
If you agree to come to work and you don't show, you might lose access to the job for a time.
With something a bit more fleshed out like this, you could efficiently meet more people and do more tasks every day.
Accomplishing this and leaving time for extra additional tasks becomes an actual race against a clock.
It wouldn't be ridiculously punishing though, maybe 15-20 minutes of just standing around required before it automatically advances to the next time of day.
So you'd still have the time you need to do what you have to, plotting it just becomes far more dynamic.
Meeting people becomes far more natural as you traverse the world and receive messages to your phone.

When you wake up, instead of just instantly teleporting to the front of the school and instantly teleporting around until the afternoon comes and you get to make one or two decisions before the evening...
You'd actually have a more cohesive game world that functions and exists.
Say you get a message from someone in the morning asking to meet in front of the school. Moments that would function as the inbetweens for SL growth.
But now you actually have to leave to get on the train for real to go to class and you have to actually meet with them in front of the school before the timeslot of morning passes by.
If you don't want to meet with them, then you have to tell them you can't meet them. But you can only tell them you can't meet them so many times before you'll lose growth, or that meeting will be skipped and they will have to update to the next world state.
There have been games with real time day and night cycles for decades so it would be really great to see them take a stab at a deeper clock mechanic with their game series that is literally entirely about spending a year of finite time in your youth creating bonds that last a lifetime with people that you may never see again, all while cultivating your personal virtues.
It would be much more technically advanced as a video game yes, and it would require the devs to have the courage to start the player off every in game day actually making their own decisions on where to go and when to go there. You know......like an RPG!

That's what I'm getting at as well. Blowing off class in the morning could become a mechanic. Arriving late could affect your stats.
Or you could leave class in the middle of the day during lunch safely because one of the teachers is covering for you with a SL skill.
It could function like how Kawakami's skill worked, allowing you a free time slot, but you can leave the school.
If you fail to show up to school 3 days in a row, you'd get a deadline game over.

I would like to see personas being used for more than just matching arcanas in social links. Ultimately what this means is you're just going to always have a matching Persona, which is really not that difficult to plan, especially once you have more slots and you can keep buying cheap ones whenever you need to. Personas having more of an effect on what you can do during the day or how effective it is, without a way to easily change it, would have more significance. For example picking a chosen arcana for the day at the beginning might lead to certain bonuses or opportunities that wouldn't be available otherwise.

This sore spot of the phone messages and the static world state stuck out to me during P5 from the way the cell phone is used.
You don't often get calls except after an SL level up in P5. Compare this to something like Cyberpunk where you are getting calls and texts from characters all the time, discussing many different things.
You should get calls a lot more often depending on the person/meeting and what time of day it is. Important meetings should be delivered with a call that must be replied to immediately.
You should also receive emails or social media notifications or something. Something to differentiate and filter between the SL's/jobs and the other information and lore that you want to present.
It's not reinventing any wheel, it's simple iterations. A deeper and more holistic clock that is tied with the phone would absolutely lend itself to the themes of the series.

That is a nice idea. Since again, people always tend to do what's optimal, having some ability to get different outcomes or more variation would be nice. Perhaps it would allow you to get extra points for picking choices that align with your chosen arcana, or let you bypass stat checks in dialogue.
