It seems more like Blizzard, for some reason, just decided to scrap the initial idea of doing a reveal stream with Ion/Holly/Metzen and change it up, because Holly is still going to be there at gamescom (according to her xitter a couple days ago) so even if Metzen isn't then you'd think that if they wanted to do the reveal stream then they'd still be fine doing it with Ion + Holly (maybe with some story dev to step in for Metzen if he's not there), but instead they switched it up entirely despite both of them being there.

All those zones on the map combined together are a size of one DF or TWW zone. Maybe only slightly bigger. EK and Kalimdor are tiny compared to modern expansions, so they can do full revamp no problem if those will be actually used in expansion. Also don't forget that they are probably also using AI-slop nowadays + their in-house dev tools definitely went miles ahead from cata times when they were doing last revamp.
I also think that they will just build a brand-new map from the scratch rather than trying to work with current map. And current ols map will just be inaccessible.
