It makes me wonder how the devs arrived at 14% as their number.

It depends on the afflicted monster.
The most affected ones are the lower A-star shitters like Royal Ludroth, who get a HUGE speed boost in afflicted. But higher A-star monsters like Rajang or Seething Bazel don't really get any noticeable boost. If they do, it's nowhere near as apparent as Royal Ludroth or Arzuros.
I very distinctly remember afflicted Diablos getting no speed boost whatsoever.
He was probably the easiest SI monster to beat. Even easier than SI Arzuros. Because SI Arzuros has a grab with a wonky hitbox. That grab he does involves him jumping, and sometimes it lands him behind you, so even if you're blocking with Guard Up, his grab hitbox may end up behind your shield. Not to mention he's got something resembling an insta-run. In contrast, SI Diablos has literally nothing he can do to you if you have Guard+5 and Guard Up+3. You don't even need Embolden.

Its ok? You want artillery on these, since artillary 3 cant have another skill. Magazine increase 2 comes with other skills. You need both on GL/CB anyway so that’s a bit of a waste. Offensive guard is good. Instead of burst you’d want default wexploit but assuming you can swap stuff around its fine too. It doesn't avoid jack shit, the same problems that existed in World and Rise exist in Wilds; everyone was running Critboost 5 before the talisman update and everyone is running Critboost 5 Attack Boost 5 after the update, with the exception being GL who doesn't use Critboost at all.
The weapon and armor split was supposed to encourage you to have utility skills on your armor and damaging skills on your weapons so you can switch up mid hunt while not missing out on your important damaging skills for each weapon. I mean I get that, most of the elemental damage will come from Element Boost on the weapon and Coalesence + Burst on armor, but what about after that? Those three skills already max out your elemental damage.
Is 2P Mizu really just the next best thing since it can upkeep Coalescence even more? Or would it better to just focus on some extra raw through Agi/WEX for more raw damage on top of your good?
I ask because its really easy to just get something like Agitator 4 on top of all the elem boosts with Zoh Shia 2P and that also has decent raw on top.
It just feels like elemental CB's power is entirely capped out already so the best set is just pumping out the additional extras ontop

Went and made myself a Fire Artian and an Ice Artian and tested them against the G Ark.

Even without Offensive Guard, the Artian was slightly better overall. Not by much. However with Offensive Guard 3, it was much better. Like over 20% more on average.
