To this day, BW2 remain the only fully fledged sequels in the history of the series. Gen 5 isn't perfect but it's a fact, it's the last time Game Freak gave a shit. They had ample chance to do the same with Gens 6 and 7, but they simply refused to.

Even besides the fact that I can feel myself optimizing the fun and challenge of the game for others' benefit, it feels so mandatory that I'm not even trying fun combos like the new fulghor relic with heolstor's
I wouldn't mind them giving us a fourth relic slot and increasing the difficulty of the game somehow either, I guess
