Shadow is canonically "pure" and "innocent" in a way that can be dangerous. His knowledge of sex is probably somewhere from rudimentary to nonexistent. He hasn't had the life experience to learn about sex beyond maybe the basics in a science book. While it's not exactly *impossible* he's had some experience, I doubt it.
Shadow exhibits extremely docile and pliant behavior when he does love someone, if Maria is anything to go by. She drags him around by his hand, and he follows with a dumb :0 look on his face, like affectionate touch demolished all of his brain cells. This gives me the impression that when it involves physical touch (Shadow does not typically initiate touch outside of battle), Shadow is someone who likes or needs to be led by someone he trusts.
Shadow also has shown a self-loathing desire to be used. He thinks that's his place.

The whole core of the game is awesome and addicting, racing is great, the whole "game" part of the game, but they need a patch ASAP. I can still find a full match within 20-50 seconds, but I don't know how long it'll last because every day it feels like I'm seeing more and more of the same faces, less new blood. If the patch is just going to add the unreleased character/vehicle model, the game is not going to be in a healthy state next year, we need a rebalance.

Yeah, I've come to believe that the alpha top Shadow stuff is really just taking Shadow’s surface-level behavior at face value. He's badass, he's self-sufficient, he's powerful, he's confident in his abilities. Those are all true, and they're stereotypical things that you would usually associate with a top.
What people tend to miss is that Shadow was *forced* to become that way. Virtually everyone he knew died, and villains tried to use him to betray Maria's wish. He had no choice but to seize control of himself and to carve his own path through sheer force of will. Pull himself up by the bootstraps, as it were.
But what if Shadow was given a choice? What is it that his heart truly longs for? When he allows himself to fantasize, he envisions the bliss of falling asleep beside someone he trusts, someone who will watch over him, tucking him in safely under a warm blanket. That’s where Shadow would be most at peace, most comfortable in life. He wants to be vulnerable without fear. He wants to reveal himself to someone without the threat of betrayal or exploitation. He wants to be taken care of. His competency and confidence is a shield forged from necessity.
To play the devil's advocate, it's possible that if Shadow were to hook up with someone he didn't fully trust, he would be dominant/top. Not because he enjoys control more, but because his vulnerability isn't something he just gives out to anyone. Perhaps, in that situation, one could work their way up to Shadow laying bare the desires of his heart.

He needs someone like Amy, someone who is so emotionally open and willing to see the best in him. She's the one who can break through all those walls he puts up and help him process all those emotions he keeps locked away. Helping him see that there's a future beyond his past.
Shadow deserves to be happy. That's why I love Shadamy.

I think it's the fact that he could heal at all that's a crime to some people, either over their insistence on him being a static character or their weird political beliefs. They won't be satiated no matter what we do, and the only thing that would make them happy is us leaving. Unfortunately I won't be doing that.

I've been so happy that there's been so much significant Shadow/Amy interaction. They talk to each other, and it's Ian writing it. It's great. He's been doing it a lot lately, everyone seems really tight-knit and like they're a found family even when they used to fight a lot. A good example would be this, or even how he writes Amy and Rouge as good gal pal friends. It shows growth.

Genuine enthusiasm and respect for Sonic's characters and their potential to grow shouldn't anger you, and yet it does. It's representative of a deeper love for this franchise and its stories.

As I mentioned with Shadow, I think interpreting Sonic or Silver as strict bottoms is drawing solely from surface-level behavior. There is no proof that Sonic would be a bottom. Heck, if I think about it, there's some proof he wouldn't be.
He's described in the original bio as a guy who likes ogling women, but he also hates to be chased by them. When Sonic has a choice, it's him doing the chasing. Sonic's extroversion hides his own insecurities just like Shadow's introversion hides his insecurities. Sonic does not like to express extreme vulnerability around others, which is why it's said he won't show his tears to anyone.

Even when Rouge is being really straightforward about her advances towards him, he isn't exactly receptive. I get the impression Rouge either isn't his type, or that you're right and she needs to start getting rapey for it to work.
Amy will never stop chasing Sonic, she loves him forever. If she hypothetically went for Shadow instead, well... I don't know. She might have luck, or she might get the same lack of reception as Rouge does. Or she might just overwhelm him entirely. Shadow wasn't always cuddly with Maria, he even asks her why she's yelling his name for no reason with an annoyed huff. And Amy is more extroverted than Maria. It'd be a lot for the poor guy.

Unfortunately, Shadow is not real, to my devastation.
Shadow is broken, he is lonely. He is an immortal being destined to outlive everyone he loves. Not every story is meant to end with a happily ever after, but these stories still hold value. Both happiness and sadness are integral to who we are, and you can't truly understand one without the other. Sad stories like Shadow's deserve to be told just as much as happy ones like Sonic's.

People often demand Shadow grow, usually for the sake of shipping. They are not happy with him as he is, and that is not love.
I understand that desire for Shadow to be happy more than you know. But Sonic is a franchise that doesn't end, and there’s only so much growth you can give a character before they become unrecognizable.
The main Sonic characters are beloved icons, Shadow included. They exist both as mascots and as relatable characters that capture our hearts.
Drastically changing them could potentially undermine what made them special and alienate those who found comfort or meaning in the characters as they are. From a business perspective, that’s a risky gamble for the longevity of Sonic as a franchise.

I'm glad you're happy with the content and stuff. I'm personally not, I don't view Ian's changes or the found family stuff as a good thing.
