They were for a good 4 weeks straight, stopped for a couple of days here, but started back up somewhat today. A lot of people were under the assumption that the DDOSer had stopped because the admin, Popo, was doing a fine enough job at driving people away from the server, more than the ddos attacks ever did.

They did, yes.

Depends, server will likely continue as normal but the peak of it seems on the downward trend.
The ddos attacks really did a number on good will, and while it isn't the fault of the server staff, Popo implemented some weird system to prevent the effects of lag from ddos but it introduced really bad input lag.
Between the ddos and really slow+stupid decision making on behalf of the devs, server has just been very slowly losing players.

There's still a decent enough population, so if you aren't opposed to the idea of it only lasting another 2 weeks or so and just enjoying it while the buzz is still kinda there, then you should be good. But if what you're looking for is this p server being your forever game, might have better luck elsewhere.

Agaia is complete garbage because of both talismans and gearing and super doomed. They've been bleeding players to Arborea constantly and today's patch brought back zero of them; the teralogs updates are inflated to hell by 4 paid staff members + 1 random queuing up to make the server seem alive which is absurd to me. They are now in full damage control mode and about to open up a BR server instead lmao. Noone from the thread plays there, for good reason.

I know the least about Starscape, but from what I heard it's just ported v100 retail with no changes. Noone from the thread plays there anymore, but it's been up for a couple years and should be relatively stable even if the population isn't that high.

I can recommend Arborea; it's not flawless but gearing isn't ballbustingly slow and the OC dungeons are fun. They've been teasing a new Baraka in summer clothes boss that should drop soontm (hopefully). Around 3/4 people from the thread play there, while the population at large is in the 150s at peak hours. Right now it's in a bit of a content draught but it at least has a future unlike Agaia.

There is also the EU Tera Classic server that just opened, but I haven't tried it nor have I heard anything about it either. It's from the same people as Tera-Germany and noone cared about it all this time so I don't really expect this Classic to be any different, but who knows. Popo's classic blew up after all.

Yes, my stay in TERA has been put on-hold for the time being. Had a nice long chat with those in TFTs and gave my farewells just a bit ago, although I didn't outright leave the Guild.
A combination of Classic's added input lag, spending a fair few months on Starscape prior to trialing Classic to get my TERA fix, and personal interest in seeing how a certain other action MMO has held up over the years, have since made me come to the realization that my heart simply isn't in it for this title at present.
TERA is a solid game in its own right, however, so I'm sure to swing by for another go at it in ~6-18 months time, knowing my habits. Although perhaps not on Classic, per-say, unless things are cleaned-up over there.

One Elin's departure does not prevent others for making their own great memories, however. There's still plenty to enjoy about this title no matter what server you're playing on, and I'll still be lurking here to see how things play out.

Not quite. There've been a few QoL changes made to the v100.2 formula, namely the removal of item degradation/destruction upon failing an Enchant, premium currency occasionally being dropped from BAMs, etc, etc.
You're mostly right though. Out of all the private servers available for TERA, Starscape is the most vanilla of the bunch, for good or ill. A fantastic time capsule to visit without a doubt, but MMOs in general seldom take well to being knowingly "finished".
As someone who had effectively never spent much time in TERA prior to stumbling across Starscape, I was content in playing what amounted to a brand-new MMO for me to get invested in. For veterans of this title, however, I do question how appealing going back to nearly plain-jane v100.2 could really be, outside of a quick lark.

You'll spend most of your dungeon time arguing with some sperglord who wants to tank without playing tank, or dying because you get no heals or support whatsoever. This shit right here is why I jumped to DPS instead. Every time I play Tera, I start out wanting to just heal people. But there's only 1 slot in any given group for healers, and everyone and their mom wants to be a cute little daddy's girl healslut, so it's always filled. I end up in these unbelievable 30 minute queues for a fucking dungeon, and when I finally claw my way to cap, every guild has some healer who already knows everyone gobbling up all the heal spots while I just sit around doing nothing all day. Healing is way oversaturated in tera. It's fun and engaging and lets you be a cute little princess whore, so there's really something for everyone. Sorry to say but you're cooked if you just want a fun pve experience but you're leveling healer by yourself.

I was thinking about my last PS experience. I didn't even bother starting as a healer in this one, just went dps right out the gate. Made a healer very briefly, remembered the bad time I had, and jumped asap when I saw people in the game's global chat begging dudes to join their leveling parties or to sync queue the first dungeons with their healer. The reason why the server keeps getting taken down is because TERA is a very old and very, very poorly coded game in a lot of ways; especially when it comes to security. I'm not sure how clear I can make it that the security in the game is basically non-existent and it blindly trusts a lot of shit that it shouldn't. For this reason there are a lot of exploits and ways to crash the server with something as simple as a bad packet and that's why the server keeps going down. It has nothing to do with server stability, the issue is TERA itself is a jank as fuck game and the person doing this is intimately familiar with that fact and knows at least a few of the methods to crash it. Some have been patched but this method in particular either requires the arcane knowledge to pull it off in the first place or a needle in the haystack approach where that singular packet needs to be found in a log file for a server that has a large enough population that a fuckton of packets are constantly being sent to the server at all times.

When Brawler released they were the highest DPS in the game(as a tank class with no DPS toggle at the time) and were even more retard-friendly than Gunner currently is because they had 100% uptime on auto block at a time when bosses were being designed around Lancer so there was barely any dodging being done by tanks. The enmity system is actually really well designed. I have a feeling you either got some incorrect information or you're interpreting it incorrectly because you don't reach the soft cap "very shortly" into a fight. It's a good thing that tanks aren't guaranteed to have the boss glued to them 24/7. The biggest issue at the moment is actually gunner and not the burst classes like Berserker/Archer and that's largely due to the fact that they can safely deal damage at times when other classes can't(someone mentioned an example with Darkan earlier.)

I actually really enjoy fighting for the aggro.
It's not as boring as say, FFXIV, where you just need to press 1 button and keep aggro for the whole fight...

Classic purists seem to think anything remotely related to post-V32 is inherent awful, despite Lancer only becoming better realized as a class because of later patches.
Baked-in guard for Onslaught/Wallop (plus Super Leap after Apex) lets you continue your offense while not falling behind on damage, and Hold the Line stacks being maintained when getting hit is quality-of-life that Lancer should've had from the start. Plus you can't just autopilot blocks, since later bosses throw defense-piercing attacks into their combos like crazy, to the point where RE management is essential to assure you always have a Backstep up when it's needed (and potentially getting ani-locked in Wallop/Super Leap when a mandatory dodge is coming up carries real risk to measure).

Lancer is just a more enjoyable class in every way in later patches, even post-Apex, at least compared to what we have to deal with in Classic.

Ninja is one of the worst examples where the gameplay completely changes, you're no longer a consistent flowy melee DPS but a hybrid melee/caster where literally all of your damage comes from a long cooldown nuke and half of your melee skills are quite literally made useless.
Not going to list every bad change, and some classes got better like Brawler, but I just can't have any fun playing TERA with apex.

TERA Classic is on a patch where levelling is already super streamlined. You don't even get to see half of each area because they've removed a ton of quests. There used to be way more instances, dungeons, and cutscenes and it was all a blast. You'd spend like half a day on island of dawn, and there would be a queue, a literal line of people waiting to kill some elite mob at the top of a hill, people already making parties and learning to play together to tackle him. It was sovlfvl.

Think the real sticking point here is that neither side can be fully satisfied, given the current state of Classic/v32.
Level-fags get a pretty boring ride through the level climb, due to TERA's extremely boilerplate themepark structure of collecting bear asses for NPCs while waiting for dungeon queues to pop. Endgame-fags and people rushing to the level cap get to experience the joys of sitting in Highwatch and running the same ~2-4 Dungeons forever and ever until the server shuts down.
If there anything you outright CAN'T get on another server right now compared to Classic, it's some semblance of an actual PvP scene. Savor that side of the game while it lasts if anything, since it's probably not going to come back again unless another Classic-esque server in the future somehow wins the population lottery.

There were 3 redeeming parts about leveling in old-ish Tera, and only 1 of them is actually specific to the game.
>1. Unnerfed BAMs were novel and challenging to the neophyte playerbase and they were rewarding in that sense to conquer, especially since it was a lot easier to find others to kill BAMs with back then to make it into a social thing, too.
>2. A bustling open world with lots of opportunities to interact with other players, and in a PvP server's case, kill or be killed while leveling, especially at BAM hotspots like the crabs at da beach. But this applies to most new MMOs.
>3. A sense of wonder when leveling where you don't know what's next, to keep you interested in not only getting to the end, but also to freshly experience the path to the end. Again, this also applies to most new MMOs.

Not only does this version have nerfed BAMs, their difficulty is trivial now to people who have played this game on and off since 2011, so the novelty that kept people fighting BAMs without feeling any kind of grindiness (despite relatively slow speeds) is gone.

For the second point, Tera classic at its highs was pretty good and it felt super alive (not just for a private server but for Tera in general, even). But with all the issues coming up, it has already fallen off and the open world leveling experience tends to be on the lonelier side, especially as people tend to just want to spam instances or certain mass-mob grind spots.

And though it should be clear, it probably needs to be said again that leveling in Tera just becomes a lot more dull when it's not your first time doing it anymore, especially if you don't have a constant of friends/guildies/other nearby players to go alongside in the journey together. You've already explored the world and its zones and dungeons, you've already had your share of killing BAMs and bosses, the open world is a lot quieter because the population spurt has long passed, and all you want to do is get past the leveling process.

Choosing levelling over endgame in tera is retarded for one reason. There is a hundred MMOs out there with the levelling they want. There is only one game with end game like tera. Why the fuck are you here for the levelling experience

And yeah, when people talk about "fixing" leveling, it ends up being one of these two things usually. Some people want to fix it (to be more enjoyable), while some want to "fix" it (to be much faster and vastly expedited). BHS threw in the towel and just nerfed all the quests and made Avatar weapons to "fix" it, and gave massive EXP bonuses to Corsairs and Kumasylum. To actually make it an enjoyable leveling experience you'd need to change a lot of things and one of the ingredients for it is not easy to maintain either (steady flux of new players and/or alts to keep the vastly oversized leveling areas populated)

Maybe this is the only game they play but in every game that has both types of class (burst vs consistent dps), the consistent dps classes are always much harder to play because you HAVE to be pumping uptime to even compete, to the point people end up considering those classes shit because the average player doesn't have perfect uptime and because the whole concept of burst windows is favored in MMO raid gameplay, the only time where this isn't true is on a sandbag boss.
Things like mechanics and forced boss downtime can fuck you much harder than someone who operates on a cooldown based burst cycle, if there's a mechanic that forces you to drop uptime with a burst class you're losing relatively little compared to a class that doesn't have a burst window, your DPS outside of that window matters comparatively less.
It also raises the skill/dps floor substantially, it's simply easier to do well when the majority of your damage is condensed into a short window.
tl;dr burst gameplay is designed for retards to feel better about their shit uptime, and at the top level it doesn't raise the skill ceiling.

The content is fine. Darkan is one of the best bosses the game has seen(which is probably why they kept bringing him back.) The only real issue with this period of the game is the disgustingly absurd power creep every time they added a new class but that shit is mostly easy to fix with some number adjustments. "Classic" era TERA is fundamentally fine, the game as a whole just needs adjustments built around this era. Whether Popo is capable of bringing us tweaked fun dungeons not from this era with tweaked loot and all of our classes equalized has yet to be seen. It's possible some classes have the short end of the stick during this patch, level 60 TERA is when the game was perfectly balanced. That would also be something Popo needs to address, slight tweaks until we get that level 60 fairness feeling back. Just being a level 60-only server is also a bad idea since it really didn't have much other than MC, KN, and Nexus. We need the best from all versions and to carefully bring them together with class balance being the #1 issue, relevance being the next issue (why even do all sorts of various dungeons in the first place, what do we get out of it?)

Server files are available for v71 and v92, but there's no point of hosting a server on those versions. v71 is post Apex, but half of the classes are missing their Apex skills. v92 is just right before the 64-bit client update and it's basically the same as v100 but with less content.
There's also v29, which is base Fate of Arun before Gunner was released, but the Russian guy who has the files isn't sharing them.

SCHM is even one of the hardest dungeons on that servers, to the point where only a few groups have ever reliably cleared it over there (SCNM is still reasonable.)
