At this point, which character is less monkey-brained, Lawbringer or Gryphon?

Gryphon is still such a squandered concept. He's supposed to be Lawbringer if Lawbringer spent years learning moves from Chinese, Japanese, and Viking users of similar polearm weapons (or at least similarly large weapons)

His main influences should have been

>Highlander (Zweihanders and Claymores are functionally short-handled polearms with how they're used)
>Kensei
>Raider
And hell, if you were to make him nowadays you'd also have Sohei in the mix.

But instead he takes none of the actual gameplay concepts from any of those characters. He steals animations and voicelines, but nothing else.

He SHOULD have had a stance, maybe even two stances. A character that fluidly switches between different fighting styles that he's learned. At the very least he should have adopted the backstep from JJ and Nobu, but with his own spin on it.

Proposed changes for Highlander

Nerf

Maybe even 400ms. Warlord's HA neutral heavies exist alongside his other amazing neutral pressure. Sohei's neutral heavies all get 500ms of hyperarmor.

These two changes feel very safe and pedestrian. I don't think anyone would have a problem with them.

Khatun feels too high IQ for just how monkeybrained and powerful your opponent can be. Haven't bought her but I've training with her and just thinking this feels like a lot of work for how braindead some popular heroes are. It's probably just inexperience/skill issue on my end because she seems really cool to play.

Sohei allows you to fight the world all by yourself, forever. If you can keep collecting souls, you can continue to heal back to full health.

The max possible HP pool of a Sohei is 176 (with the correct feats)

Imagine starting a 1v4 with all of your souls, and you have your T4 in your back pocket. They wail on you, bringing you down to like 20 HP. Nope, you use your T2 and heal back to a full 176. And then you immediately pop your T4 and get all your souls back.

A Sohei that can get their souls back is better at stalling than anyone in this game. If you can get your shit, your actual true HP pool can balloon to the hundreds.

As someone who never plays Sohei, but has played against a bunch of really good ones, here is my general advice.

1. Don't start trying to soft feint your zone to GB right out the gate. Let it fly a couple times. See if they're just blocking or dodge attacking it. Once you've seen what they're up to, then start getting those GB soft feints in.

2. Your neutral heavies are *technically* inferior to your zone. They're 100ms slower and deal 1 less damage. However you still get HA at 400ms. Throw these out every now and then to mix up your neutral game. Sometimes you'll throw it out and people will just eat it because they never see the move.

3. Do NOT be constantly going for souls 100% of the time. Sometimes the best way to mess with your opponent is just going for damage or using a certain soul finisher multiple times.

4. Jumping off the previous point. Your top heavy unblockable finisher deals the most damage (20). Use it. Your top light finisher is undodgable (and all his light finishers are 400ms). Use it. Hell you might even want to spam that one. By using these top attacks repeatedly you're conditioning your opponent to go for top parries. And if they're trying to dodge the top heavy unblockable, you mix in the undodgable light attack to discourage that behavior.

5. You don't *need* your default T3 unless you really want the meme of 1-shotting someone from full health. Your T1 is more than enough for supplementing your super's already absurd damage. It's basically up to preference between default T3 and Tough As Nails.

6. Your side heavy finishers both pin people. This means they interrupt hyperarmor. Won't come up very often, but if your opponent has lots of hyperarmor, consider throwing out your side heavy finishers if they're trying to trade. Because your damage is shit, people WILL try to trade.

Sohei is arguably better equipped for true "mind-games" than any other character. Condition people. Establish expectations. Groom people.

Getting heavy souls off GB is 100% the move every single time.

I agree the 7force is basically a "fuck you" button
but sometimes getting rid of a guy quickly before an enemy teammate shows up is huge.

Sohei's zone, in terms of properties, hitboxes, and timings, is one of the single best moves in the whole game. That zone is a fucking workhorse. The mileage that Sohei gets out of that zone attack is ridiculous. As a dedicated Highlander autist I am jealous of its soft-feint. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO FAST FLOW DIRECTLY FROM MY ZONE GOD DAMN IT.

I just recently downloaded this game again to play with my friend... and I fucking hate it so much. It can be fun when it goes right, but I don't think I have ever raged like this in any other game.

Right now, if you hit an enemy with an attack that normally does 20 damage, but the enemy is in 2nd hit stun from a gank and has 75% damage reduction, they only take 5 damage, but still get 20 revenge.
The training grounds change makes it so revenge gain is affected by damage modifiers. Using the previous example, the enemy would take 5 damage and also only get 5 revenge.

The combat looks different like it's way faster paced, holy shit I haven't played since maybe a couple of months into the game when people were spamming charge zone attacks on shugoki. It looks harder and there's so many characters now. How did dominion end up becoming the most popular mode? It was my fav mode back then but the meta was always 2v2 and duels, what happened?

The game used to be purely *reaction* based, but now many moves are *read* based.

The game is now far closer to an actual fighting game in terns of how you play it.

If the enemy throws an unblockable heavy YOU have to make a read on 2 things. Will they:
1) let it fly, and you parry it
2) they feint it and try to punish a parry OR dodge attempt with a guardbreak

but in that scenario the enemy is also making a read, because they also have to make a read on whether you're going to dodge with a dodge attack, empty dodge, or parry

it's now all about doing your best to know what the enemy will do, and then reacting based on your gut
