OG is being laid to rest after almost 7 years of existence. We got the save working but its so old/large/corrupted that we have decided to start fresh. Lore videos will be made in October along with a public download.
In its place, /vm/ vintage story / "nu" OG is born. Learning from the mistakes of the past, the new vm vintage story will hopefully last longer than OG. Its a fresh start as of tuesday so now is a great time to get in and help shape any civ. A second post will be made going more in-depth about the happenings of the server.
Waterworld will be closed this weekend so people can join in on vm vintage story and get settled.

Fresh start. A lot of old culture is already returned (order of chef, Hermes imitative, dodgerock, etc).

You spawn on a large mountain continent in a temperate zone. A large group of players went east, forming "basecamp" for the faction "gust." They live in a small walled settlement and will travel to a northern island continent tomorrow.
Nickolas is leading the early trip around 10 am EST.
A second trip will occur around 5pm EST. Both will be from basecamp (around 3500 east of spawn) and will boat to 6430 -7030. Multiple trips may be taken with two cargo ships full of players and loot from basecamp.

The spawn area has two one-way teleporters. One takes you far souf, one takes your far norf. Some groups of players have settled these. The goal is to see how towns evolve separate from one another and eventually connect/network them together similar to sahara-hyperborea.
Pic rel. The area will be flat with forests and mountains. Rye, flax, and turnip will be staple crops.

The new server is open to mods however as with og, striving for longevity, it is more cautious with adding them. A weapon mod is one of the mostly likely to be added.

We need the canoe mod, better ruins, and farsight! They won't fuck up saves. They only enrich player experience and increase fun.

Farsight and better ruins add to file sizes fast. Better ruins will add to it even if removed. Better ruins is one I love for single player but I like seeing ruins of old players slowly build up as opposed to ruins made by anons. I will test and consider the canoe mod and see if it can crash if the entities are removed. I do love farsight and ruins... I might look more into farsight.

Southern port is already in progress. The industrial should go next the the mountain for wind power access and the vibe of looking up to well made mountian-windmills. Also a forge goes best partially built into a mountian. The only reason to farm shit on the mountian is for maybe rye/turnips. A small wall could work, even a sea wall. We could expand the port to the west side as well but I'm mostly basing my zoning proposal on the wind access to the mountians. I agree that we need a fortress attached to the mountian.

Realistically, if the port is in the south it has easier access to spawn and the southern part of our country and the canal. A fortress should overlook the port, the city, and the main storage area. The storage area should be close to the port, trade routes, and the industrial zone.
I think if we farm in the south of the canal, we could have a small port set up there and small storage and just move it in bult to the city (embrace boat culture)
Housing can be mobile but knowing sahara, a good town square is a lot bigger than that. A government build, guild (like HI), inn/tavern, shops, etc all the shit you want on a square take up more space than housing.

Hitboxes of entities don't rotate.
For this reason hitboxes are all square shaped. And when entity isn't square shaped, just add more squares and make them pivot.

When I count the votes, the top 3 players with the most votes will win. So #1 is who you want most, #3 is who you want least of the 3.

Speaking of guilds, can counselors be guild members? Wouldn't that present a conflict of interest when it comes managing guilds or overriding prices? What about voting? Is there any process to voting on proposals? Can they reject a proposal, or do they HAVE to vote on it? If the latter, what's stopping me from submitting 100 retarded proposals and forcing them to vote on every single one?

Anywhore, if you're gonna be autistic enough to draft a constitution, you should probably be autistic enough to clearly define legal margins, or even elements of jurisprudence, like "unfair" or "reasonable".

I think it might be due to the map mods I'm using, but yeah I couldn't find any clay yesterday after hours of wandering around doing random stuff while keeping an eye out for it. The default settings are 1,000,000km^2(yes that's 1 MILLION km squared), but can go as high as 64 million km^2. Limited trader inventory - random nature of trader spawns that doesn't allow hyperconcentration of value (like how a large deposit of gold/silver in quartz ore can) - PLUS the fact that the traders are impartial and will happily take gears for stuff. You put the log on the ground (or on another log) and press 'F' to select chopping mode and click to do an animation. I'm thinking it could be balanced by increasing the amount of firewood a single log gives you. Currently it's 4 (3 for kapok) but you could probably bump it to 8, or even 32 (visually 16) since that much firewood is consistent with the size of a log. Higher-tier axes let you break/chop the wood faster. A similar system should exist for sawing and debarking (especially debarking, since oak tannins are derived from the oak bark, meaning there's no need to shove full fucking logs into barrels when making leather). Overall, I want to make a whole mod around wood harvesting and timber processing that makes it much more realistic and rewarding. I've engaged with it quite a bit IRL and it makes me very sad to see that woodworking is so poorly implemented after all these years.

One thing I haven't quite figured out is if felling trees should be changed significantly. If you can process more materials from a single log then yes, cutting down trees should be slower, but if you want more realism then the tree should literally fall over, and then I guess you just chop it up and scoop it into your inventory. This irks me because my lumber autism wants to have ways to haul full fucking tree logs to a mill, either using things like sleds or rafts/barges, but besides being a nightmare to implement for a number of reasons, I think it would just be terribly inconveniencing for the player. It's still a block game after all, the gameplay needs to be designed in a way that respects that. I just want harvesting lumber and working with wood to feel immersive and worthwhile, because currently the whole process is so braindead that I feel like it actively works against the design philosophy of the game.

At the very least, you should not need to harvest a small forest to fill a modest charcoal pit. That is just retarded.

You can do that in vanilla with riveted blocks. Some blocks only jannies can chisel. Most coin mods are OP. Like one copper for 9ish coins.

The actual value and number of the coins is irrelevant since you can enforce who's able to actually make them and limit the supply until you have a functional fiat currency.

Coinage also adds exchange machines you can fill up so that people can trade coins for bars, bars for coins, and coins for other denominations of coins. So even in the worst case people can just bring bars if they don't have any of a town's coins.
