Manga Misaki is far more in line with the story of Welcome to the NHK than her anime counterpart. Every major character- Satou, Yamazaki, Sempai(less so her since she is more of a side character, but still relevant) are damaged without any clear source or easy narrative to justify their shitty behaviors.
Satou was a loner who acted aloof, but was miserable and eventually collasped under the weight of people potentially judging him. He wasn't abused, his parents had money, there's really no big "oh no!" moment that caused it. This lack of drama which is shared by Yamazaki and sempai make them feel more real while also making it hard to pity them since a good deal of their problemfs are self inflicted.
Now what about anime Misaki you ask? Oh, she had her mother dramatically jump a cliff and she is horribly abused by (her uncle I think, don't remember). Sure, its sad, but it sticks out in the story so fucking badly. I'll take manga Misaki's flanderized played up character any day of the week because at least there was an attempt at trying to align her more with the cast.

I think it's actually the opposite. People who prefer the manga do so because it's much less of a wish fulfillment story and the "romance" feels more realistic. It's the only version of the story where it makes sense that Satou is kind of annoyed by Misaki. They are two fucked up people, and by the end, if there's any love between them is not because they are saving each other, but because they can empathize with their situation, and that motivates them to get better on their own, so one day they can try being together again.

We generally are afraid of that some of us more overt than others, the paranoia comes with the fact that we have a deeply rooted fear of abandonment so we want to control and eliminate all perceived threats to it. I don't have that much experience I've only been with 3-4 but in general what works for me is still offering love through the hateful mood swing, it mellows out really easily. Especially framed like acceptance. I have BPD too though which means I get hurt by it much less because I empathize. In general get good communication with a BPD girl/boy, the cheat code is making them able to communicate their needs more easily rather than have to push you or test you in any implicit way. And if you have the kind of personality to not judge irl yandere shit you're going to do well. In general the only bad experiences are if they're not far in their own journey of self awareness. You can help them along though.
On the topic of cheating if you offer enough attention it won't happen in 99% of the cases but it is true we're more prone to cheating than normal because of our lack of emotional regulation and recklessness which involves being horny. However the love stuff is way stronger and overrides it (unless you get unlucky with a worse person) so if you really embrace it with them you'll do okay. In general from what I've observed it happens mostly when dating normal people and having to repress all the BPD shit to not ruin the relationship. I guess I have more to add, there's two big types of hateful mood swing / crisis you might have to confront. The first one is that one of the common defenses we have against abandonment (that doesn't mean true abandonment it can be us being retardedly paranoid) is trying to abandon the person first. That softens the blow a little, otherwise we get devastated. That's why there's this stigma of this "manipulative" push and pull like we're trying to feel wanted by faking breaking up. In general it's not manipulation at all just us freaking out at some paranoia and being stupid trying to protect ourselves. It's not conscious but deep inside we know that we're either going to be chased after by the person or if our fears are real, we'd have softened the blow. This is fixed by communication like I said so we can say "hey, I feel bad about X" and get reassurance for that fear.
The second kind of mood swing is the one that happens out of really petty stuff almost out of nowhere, in general what happens is that we repress ourselves in an effort to emotionally regulate and then some hidden breakdown that we had held in comes out at any possible excuse. This is also not conscious to us it feels like "we become more unstable" if we have some sort of deeper bad happening. Like if something hurts me (university stress, etc) I'll be more prone to it that day. This is really only fixed with therapy and self awareness and you need to be patient with it and show acceptance there's not that much more to do.

Do I have BPD? I'm not a woman but I've had severe attachment issues throughout my entire life. I'm plagued by a constant fear of negative judgement which causes me to refrain from talking or interacting with most people. On the rare occasion I do make a friend I form a very unhealthy level of attachment towards them. If they happen to break my trust in some way I tend to lash out at them and go on horrible tirades insulting and belittling them, and on one occasion I went out of my way to essentially try to ruin one of their lives out of spite. It's like a switch flips in my brain that causes me to go from complete love and devotion to abject hatred and vindictiveness. I did a writing exercise where I took the basic premise of NHK and reworked it as a novel based on my own experiences as a writing exercise. I was on a real roll too as I put out about 233 pages of this. Most of it was deeply private fantasy wish-fullfilmment for myself really but it was an amazing high to be productive in some way and finish something.

haven't written more than three pages of anything since. this was back in december.

i hate the spring and summer. i feel much more comfortable in fall and winter. everytime the seasons change i go into a depression.

I do not agree.
Satou is a completely outdated vision of neetdom that has been obliterated by the passage of time, he'd barely be a failed normalfag nowadays, he's not even close to be the average /r9k/ poster.
The last third involving Megumi is borderline filler content that has no correlation to the central themes of the show and transforms Satou into some saviourfag going into people's life to save them like fucking Emiya Shirou despite the fact he's supposed to be a living parasite no one should take advice from. The character wasn't even in the original LN.
The whole NHK conspiracy and Satou's schizophrenia are also extremely shallowly treated, he never goes into deep philosophical or self introspection and he ends up seemingly feeling more like a deluded manchild than an actual hikki with psychological issues. Overall his character feels less tangible than the LN by making him less of a piece of shit.
All of that could have been improved by both having Abe's desaturated y2k denpa aesthetic and a more down to earth melodramatic script.

If not for my Misaki daydreams, I would've killed myself a long while ago. No irony, exaggeration or otherwise false intent behind that statement.
