Shinobu is the best kind because hers is dependent on what people think so she could work in anyway you want if you believe hard enough. There are probably suburbs in America haunted by moody teen vamps while stiff hopping ones make a mess in villages in China. The way oddities work is truly entertaining. She did gain a lot of her strength when she crashed in Japan and they started worshipping her. That was a bit more people, but not as large amount of people as the group who know the concept of vampires to give them a general form and ability. Their view of her overpowered what was already thought of her. The witch who also initially gave her her curse that contributed to her strength may have also been using an oddity that just spiralled way out of control or maybe was an oddity herself. I fully agree that Shinobu is the most powerful oddity and could probably beat every other character. It is because most people only empower her as it is easier to strongly view her with fear. The specialists constantly fearing her breaking out may even contribute to her continuing to be a "danger" to them. I just feel there is a narrative purpose to Araragi being the one to "weaken" her. Both because his mind ending up doing something like that makes sense for his character and because it fits well with the story. He is the only one who truly views her in an innocent and nice light. He has a love for her strong enough that it keeps her "docile" in a way. Sure she could still kill him at any moment as it is part of their dynamic and shows that the love is genuine. But she undoubtedly is in a state that is a lot less threatening when in loli mode. To put it simply, my argument is not about the power of Kiss-Shot, but rather if an individual can mentally overpower even groups in Monogatari. Not only would it feel right for Araragi, but it would also help explain why he is so lucky and why oddities come to him so frequently. Not to mention that it adds to their romance because it connects to the theme of him being the only one to show her love, the only one to truly humanize her.

Hey, you know what, my bad. I misspoke. I actually don't even want that to be true. I headcanon in my dumb daydreams that she and someone who wanted to remain a vampire would've been able to drink each other's blood and cut the need to eat humans out entirely if they wanted just by getting Oshino and Hanekawa on board with the idea. Which might not even be necessary.

I just took issue with the idea that you could apply a weakness that she explicitly doesn't have just by autisming hard enough. I also think an oddity's perception of themself also affects things. If it means anything, I did kind of think the stake thing sounded stupid after typing it. Maybe if it was some legendary vampire hunter after beating one real hard, but otherwise, I almost feel like how cliche it would be may simply make it not work. I also agree totally on the oddity self perception thing. Ougi is a character who demonstrates it well. She lost her main purpose after Araragi and is now essentially left not really fully knowing who she is. She has deep knowledge on oddities, but only as far as your average specialist knows. She also knows important things about Araragi but that is about it. I feel like Ougi now is trying to mess around with perception to see if it affects her form. Things such as her insisting she always was a boy to Kanbaru could be signs of this. It would be funny if she found the trick to changing her existence and a future arc had her become some powerful monster that Araragi has to deal with. I think it is more of an inherent downside of the modern western idea of monotheism where everything needs to comply with christian dogma.
Monsters from non-christian cultures were allowed to just exist in the world and interact with other stories in an organic way. They do have weaknesses but they are usually just silly curiosities or customs only relevant to the cultures that created them.
Western folklore is not really allowed this kind of creativity. Every story needs to either fit a very strict mold or feed into a single narrative, otherwise it gets erased from the canon. As a result, every monster ends up with every weakness every similar creature presented in every story they ever featured, because they all must be the same creature regardless of context or meaning.

It is kind of understandable. Medieval missionaries had waves of people following indigenous faiths to convert. You can never really know if they are worshipping something else or if it is just a story they really like. It definitely left a lasting impact both on Christianity and the West in general though.
