The Lord of the Rings is a very strange choice to use as a contrast with a work of narrative that uses terminology without explanation, seeing how a lot of things in LotR are dropped without explanation without going deep into the Appendix (half of the stuff regarding Aragorn and Arwen's story and the Numenoreans for example), the Silmarillion (basically anything regarding shit older than what's happening) or is just never explained (The Watcher, Tom Bombadil, whatever Gandal is talking about when he mentions Nameless Things beneath the world etc)
Hell, one of LotR most memorable moments, the stand of Gandalf against the Balrog, has the old wizard just saying a lot of stuff that is never explaned in the narrative:

Okay. Guess we can do away with that narration before every episode and before the series even starts. Zeon? Colonies? The Earth Federation? Don't need to explain any of that shit. Just start the entire show off with a bunch of mechs and space cruisers fighting each other. All establishing shots--gone. All narration that states where White Base is, where they are headed, what their plan is, who they are attacking, what foe they are facing--GONE. If Tomino doesn't do exposition, then we don't need any of that exposition either.

Everything in Gundam 79 can be inferred through context and eventually gets explained very clearly, and even then the more vague elements are not critical to understanding what's happening.

Zeta on the other hand is a gigantic mess. For at least 20 episodes, it's totally unclear who the Titans or the AEUG are, nor are most of the main cast introduced with clear explanations of their roles. Henken and Blex just appear and start giving orders without giving the viewer any idea who is in command or what specifically they're trying to accomplish.

The movie trilogy introduces Newtypes better than the tv show. They're mentioned earlier on.

But, yeah, this is just Tomino writing. Throwing terms and names with no prior, or future, exposition about them. MSG is actually fairly limited as far this goes compared to many of his later shows that had him actually writing the script.

One think I noticed about this show is that no one really cares much about the girls other than Haman.
She's just so good. The others are just sorta barbie dolls until Turn A it seems, and then in that season every girl is too overcooked and Loran is so effeminate to match that he's literally cross-dressed at parts. I kinda wanted them to match off with Chars, but none of the male cast of that season matched as well. They were all buffoons. And the girls never match with Haman's quality too.
