In the manga, Naruto genuinely didn't have that much of a shitty childhood when compared to the other characters.
The worst thing about it is that he had no parents, which sucks, but that already applies to half of the cast. Other than that, he still has friends he gets to play around with, he has a caring teacher for a father figure, he goes to Ichiraku Ramen, and the worst thing the other villagers do is come call him stinky. It really doesn't feel like Kurama made him that ostracized. Compare that Gaara, who had uncle tried to kill him, had his father constantly plan assassinations against him and had other villagers yelling at him to die.

You're mistaking the issue. The Androids arc is badly written because the middle part is just a string of powerups without any interesting new events or developments and boring stomp fights. The fact that these powerups ended up being "Vegeta goes big muscles" and "Goku/Gohan go for a more lean approach by getting used to Super Saiyan and making it basically their base form" has nothing to do with that and it's actually pretty good and one of the arc good parts.
