It was kinda bizarre how it went from Denji being aware of his choices and even bringing up the Fire Devil, to having flashbacks about Aki and Power.

Yoshida is the one who represents Public Safety in the story, trying to keep Denji from turning into Chainsaw Man and setting up their interest in Chainsaw Man erasing the Death Devil during the Aquarium arc. It’s his talk with Death that introduces the Nostradamus Prophecy into the story and leads into Falling’s first appearance.
He walks Denji through what’s happening in the Church arc and makes the ultimate consequences clear to him, and then following through after the Fire Devil riots. It’s his fight with Asa and Yoru in the apartment where we first see how Yoru is becoming more powerful as fear of War spreads across the globe.
In the Aging arc, Yoshida is the one who gets Pochita to vomit up Ear Devil and thus reveals the machinations of the erasure ability, as well as formulating the plan to escape Aging’s world.
Whether you care for the character or not, he’s done plenty to entrench himself within the plot.
Reze and Yuko’s significance doesn’t really work as a comparison due to the differences in their respective characters and arcs.

However, the story foreshadowed a few events: firstly the apocalypse which still hasn't happened, then the School Festival which is a whole month away from the current events, Control devil's third coming in a new body, and even Blood devil. Ultimately what we need to see is an entire period in the manga, at least half of an arc, during which Death is actually erased. Of course such a state would not last, it would only be temporary. Before that can even happen, Denji needs to be turned into a weapon. Count around 2 minimum up to 4 maximum more arcs. I expect 3 big arcs.

People noticed earlier on in Part 2’s early stages that it was following the pattern of Part 1 but there was something wrong with it. After the recent chapter with Yoshida, it made me realize that Yoshida is basically an Aki who wasn’t forced to be around Denji. Yoshida remembers an event we don’t see where they were doing some friend stuff but they never connected. Yoshida eventually kills himself for what I assume is War Devil’s goal for an eternal war and for humanity to live on forever. Yoshida is the Aki who never connected with Denji and dedicated himself to public safety.
Now Yoru/Asa is supposed to be Power but the two different sides of Power. You have the devil side of Power and the human side of Power influenced by the corpse she was inhabiting. Yoru is supposed to be her devil side where she was reckless, stupid, and ultimately wanted to be feared and powerful. Asa is the human side of Power that connected with Denji with Meowy. I think the orphanage director drowning her cat is a REALLY intentional homage to Meowy and what Meowy meant for Power’s human side. It’s basically killing the humanity that Asa has and her only connection back then.
With Yoshida dead, whatever remains of Part 1 is essentially dead and gone. Yoshida was the last important character from Part 1 that had an active role in the story. I think Part 2 is supposed to be the twisted version of Part 1 where Denji is already mentally fucked for everything that happened and without Makima basically controlling the situation for better and for worse. Over time Part 2 we watched parts of Part 1 die off. First it was Aki’s apartment, suit, and his money. Then it was Meowy with power and the Dogs with Makima. Nayuta died which resembled the hope Denji had for the future because he couldn’t make a choice that would screw him both ways. Now Yoshida is dead, the last major character from Part 1 that had an active role. Denji is alone and he is forced to make a choice.

In order for the erasure power to be present, Denji needs to dissapear and Pochita needs to take over, or Asa/Yoru needs to turn him into a weapon with Pochita's erasure property. I really think that Yoshida is meant to be a darker reflection of Aki and what his fate would have been if he was never forced to take care of Denji.
