I can already tell the messaging from this film is gonna be fucked. Reminds me of that Diego comic where he's starving a predator cause he keeps saving their prey.

Although I will laugh if this somehow introduces fantasy tech that lets obligate carnivores farm mushrooms or something.

Why did they call the obvious sounding male bear a female? Shit man these shitty activists are still at Disney.

Also I thought you people were lying about how...

The animals are role playing and prey animals want to INTENTIONALLY get killed and eaten.

Seeing that this is real makes the movie fucking stupid as shit. This is stupid even for fiction. Having the animals be self aware to that degree is fucking idiotic. Automatically ruins the movie. Not even in Lion King did the prey animals go "Okay lions you can intentionally kill me because I'm cool with it!" I hope this movie fails its too dumb for words.

Also doing actual pop culture references to Avatar in-universe is dumb. This is the first time Disney has ever done a direct reference to another property like this. I expect this kind of dialogue in Dreamworks or Seth Rogen not in a Disney movie. Again I hope this movie fails.

Happens all the time eventually the talent either leaves or they run out of golden ideas. And as such the studio starts festering, rotting, and decaying. Right now I'm more surprised that Disney does not liquidate and close down Pixar.

And you know what else? Whenever Disney chooses to close down Pixar I don't blame Disney because Pixar decided to internally become awful on their own by allowing bad people to inherit the studio and Lassetter is not a golden boy, he made his lacklusters decisions. To this day I still hate the Cars franchise, so trashy. And I refuse to believe Cars is better than Hot Wheels.

Pixar has never been absolutely perfect like how fanboys shill.

Wild Robot is shit. Hey everybody look at this female robot who does NOT look female go around pretending that a stupid duck is her son and all the animals in the forest help her raise her stupid duck son including a fox who would eat the dumb duck.

Yeah right that movie is shit. It was dumb and that's why its not talked about much. Stupid concept. And I'm tired of movies about robots discovering human like feelings. These days I consider a robot being full of feelings a negative.

Not really. Cameron owns personal rights with Avatar. Disney doesn't really own Avatar they can't liberally use it as they see fit. Just because they have an Avatar ride at their theme park doesn't mean that they own it. They used to have a Star Wars ride before they bought Star Wars entirely.

So yeah Cameron has the final say on Avatar not Disney.

Asians are not white. They will be tolerated. And if you really want to make a white person movie you are heavily recommended by today's freakshows to make it a White Woman like Riley from Inside Gay Out. You are expressively NOT allowed to do straight white male storylines. As far as entertainment goes the United States is the most anti white nation at the current time. And if you somehow get clearance to make a white straight male character in the lead he MUST be an idiot who gets outshined by a Mary Sue.

Because there's a stigma in modern Hollywood that adventures don't sell. Not even trying to be funny here.

The reason a movie like Puss in Boots Last Wish was allowed to happen is the TEAM was devoted and serious about the idea and were fueled by passion to make it happen, a fantasy adventure. The other Dreamworks staff were banking on Teenage Kraken.

Anyway adventure movies are looked down upon at all these studios so if you get a movie like that its because the team was obsessed with making it happen overruling the bosses.

Got news for you every single story type for every single genre has been DONE!

Why do you think we keep seeing subversions about how the evil villains are totally good for many years now? We are out of ideas completely as a species. Every cliche has been done. Every genre maximized and burned out. We don't have anything else except regurgitating samey ideas until even idiot normies realize "Wait a minute this is just like this other old movie why should I pay for this?"

Quick sloppy paint job. Daniel Chong is working on this one, but the WBB's bland-ass style looks just as flavorless in 3D. I hate the perfectly circular eyes with simple black pupils. The deer look like sock puppets. You can't even tell the bear is supposed to be female. It's just a circle with fur. Say what you will about Brave, but just look at stock art or clips for the mom when she is in bear form. She has define shape and mannerism that make feminine and convey her personality. On that same note, I feel they should have bridged the beaver design with MC's human design better. Even giving them the same eyes, eyebrows, and having them beaver have scruffy fur on the head on the would have made the design stick out more. You could argue that there would be no story reason for that, since, in universe, the beaver was not custom made for her. But I feel like having a distinct character design should supersede that. The gag with the birds is also just a retread of a joke from Finding Nemo. However, the reason that joke was funny was because they specially give the seagull simple dot eyes to make look dumber than the other animals. I cannot see this movie being better than "just okay" like most of Pixar's recent catalog.

Okay, I see it. Iโ€™d heard they were forced to take the environmentalist message out of their environmentalist movie, I was wondering how they were going to reconcile that.

I legitimately have met people who need to learn common sense lessons like โ€œdonโ€™t go โ€˜rescueโ€™ wild baby animals,โ€ and it might be nice if thatโ€™s what this movie is going for. Might be nice for kids to see, if it doesnโ€™t backfire and just make them want beavers as pets.

A better example might be the way that two animals might fight one day because theyโ€™re hungry/horny/whatever is going on with them that day, and the next day they can be cool with each other if those conditions are not present.

Youโ€™re right that itโ€™s clumsier to just pretend that prey animals regularly lay down and let themselves be eaten.

Thanks for giving an actual critique, unlike the other anons ITT blindly complaining or repeating their same anti-Pixar catchphrases.

Personally I like how cartoony the animals look, with their ping pong ball eyes and simplified models; but I do agree many of the ones we've seen so far have pretty unremarkable designs, which is the LAST thing you'd want for a family-friendly talking animal movie. Rio, Migration, Brother Bear, and The Lion King are all great examples of giving some visual flair to feral designs that can't rely on fun wardrobes like Sing or Zootopia. I'd even argue The Wild Robot did a decent enough job making its animal cast visually interesting. Even if Hoppers's main stylistic goal is to capture the natural beauty of a forest environment, broader character silhouettes and some creative "cheats" with fur colors would go along way.

Also I totally agree on Mabel's robot. Having the most prominent design in the film be a simple beaver without any unique accessories was a huge mistake, and I'm waiting to see how Disney will try and push it as a super marketable design. Stitch is a cool blue alien, and at least Panda Mei was a giant red panda, but beavers are as basic as they come.

Animals hate conflict when they can avoid it, and itโ€™s actually pretty common for a smaller and weaker animal to get a bigger one to back the fuck off, simply by chimping out hard enough.

I donโ€™t recommend trying to fight a bear, because if he calls your bluff he can and will crush your skull. Better to get away. But as a last resort, fighting is worth a try if youโ€™re gonna die anyway, and it doesnโ€™t always fail.

What annoys me about Avatar is that the main characters are all unlikable with their shitty anti human agenda. Basically Avatar is a movie about how humans deserve to die out on Earth and the character leading the charge against mankind is a shitty subhuman traitor to mankind. It's not an alien who sees humanity as trash it's a lame virtue signaling self hating human.

It's not going to happen because Cameron is a faggot who I hope dies a painful death, but ideally a good finale for Avatar is humanity hunts down Sully brings his ass back to Earth and tortures him to death while the rest of the obnoxious Navi aliens are killed into extinction. Doesn't help that the Navi aren't sympathetic, they rejected diplomacy because they are hypocrites who say they have empathy for others but clearly don't give a damn about a species in need of minerals and resources that was willing to do trade. When you tell mankind "Die off!" mankind will respond in turn by saying "If we die then we'll take you down with us!"

Enough said Cameron's Avatar is shit. And Nickelodeon's Avatar is ALSO shit while we're at it cry like a bitch and you win a world war? Garbage.

Big difference, Buzz and Zurg replicating the Star Wars "I am your father!" scene never had any of the other characters making commentary that Buzz and Zurg are referencing the Star Wars franchise. In Hoppers what we're seeing is a verbal reference and the scientist woman responds in turn to that reference. And having the scientist acknowledge it like that makes it even more annoying.

Because plenty of cartoon animal movies that I like (Bambi, Dumbo, Watership Down, Lion King, Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron, etc) have managed to have very good looking styles, while still conveying a sense of character and yeah, sometimes also gender to the characters, and also while making the animals look like animals, and they didnโ€™t need to resort weird exaggerations.

I do think that exaggerated cartoony looking cartoons have their place. I got nothing against Looney Toons making Bugs and Daffy look like dudes wearing animal costumes rather than a literal duck and rabbit, same with other characters like Roger Rabbit. That works for those guys.

But for what the Hoppers trailer looks like it wants to do, I think Iโ€™d rather have more realistic looking animals in that movie. Itโ€™s weird and ironic that it sounds like they made an anthropomorphic animal movie where the lesson is gonna be why you shouldnโ€™t anthropomorphize animals so much. And maybe they wonโ€™t pull it off. But one thing I donโ€™t want to fault them for right from the jump is for not visually anthropomorphizing the animals enough, that feels silly here.

That's more because DWA has always been obsessed with cost cutting. They tried the same shit with outsourcing scenes to their Chinese studio (Oriental Dreamworks, now called Pearl Studios) and according to some anonymous artists at DWA, the work they were getting back was so amateurish people in Glendale had to basically re-animate them.

I feel like the same shit is gonna happen here. They're gonna experiment with outsourcing and AI, it's gonna be shit, then they're gonna realize that skilled workers have merit.

DWA is also pretty good at merchandising and franchising. While Pixar is still relying on Toy Story and Cars merch to keep them afloat, DWA has HTTYD, Madagascar, Shrek, Trolls, and Kung Fu Panda.

I think the bear's ambiguous design is fine but the voice just sounds straight up male. If you do a non-dimorphic design, give the bear a mably voice, and have the characters keep saying "she" to beat the point that "look it's a female bear that's not feminine at all" then the overcorrection is going too far.

It's one of the rare modern CN shows that merchandised really well. A bunch of teens and adults like it because they've purchased the cute merch and watched an episode or two without being cringed out but they don't actually have an emotional investment in the show. There was an entire cohort of casual merch-purchasing fans like this for Adventure Time too but that show also had a portion that was obsessed with everything about it.

Oh BROTHER

The way I see it, We Bare Bears was never about that. The bears usually cause their own problems. If there are any core themes that define the show, it'd be found families (Bears) and learning to form connections with others when one is neurodivergent (Chloe). I haven't revisited the series in years, but just mayyybe what Chong wrote here applies to the bigfoot character who turns out was a really nice guy and didn't want to be treated as some spectacle. As for the bears? They're just a couple of dopes stumbling into humorous situations, even if they have good intentions.

Back when all these movies were in production like 5 years ago the mainstream wasn't complaining about GrubHub/beanmouth stuff in CG movies yet. Artists and directors were starting to realize that they could go for a more stylized look and everyone on the production teams thought it was a good idea since a more cartoony house style doesn't really seem that risky without hindsight. While Pixar went for a more round and simplified look, Sony went for a more comic book/anime look. Years laters we're seeing that Sony made the better aesthetic decision but the mainstream discussion about all this was sparked by Elio failing and Kpop Demon Hunters succeeding. Before Elio there wasn't such a unanimous agreement that Luca and Turning Red's artstyles were the main reason why they weren't that well received, just that Pixar was going through a slump in general.

This looks derivative and kind of boring but the beaver designs are cute. The stupid one with its eyes closed will probably sell a bunch of plush toys. I see a missed opportunity to give the MC's fake beaver body messier hair (not just the small cowlick on the side) to match her irl hair and to make it a more immediately iconic silhouette/design.

I hate illumination because their movies are cheap and ugly but they are successful exactly because they are cheap. You would think normies would catch on that they are a junk studio. Even Sony Animation is better. But hey guess I'm giving normies way too much credit here. I hate the Despicable franchise so much because of how ugly and garbage the characters are.

Braly is still venturing out to do new shit, and rather quickly too. I personally don't feel we need that Amphibia sequel graphic novel miniseries, but I'm not against it. It's not like it came out of nowhere; Braly had always been teasing a Grown-Up Polly spin-off even back when the show was first ending. Now if ALEX HIRSCH came out and announced a Gravity Falls continuation? THAT would be disappointing since he spent the last decade insisting those characters' stories were over.

My first impression is this looks like The Wild Robot but with the brutality of nature completely sanitized. That said, I think it's natural that a human transplanted into an animal's body probably would try to save as many animals as they could. This could potentially have a nice little message about how you can't change another "people's" culture for better or for worse, but I doubt they'll do that. This is modern Pixar we're talking about. I fully expect them to go "humanity bad" and have the animals team up to beat them or something. Still, I think Beavers are neat animals, and it's kinda cool seeing a movie about one.

I mean, you do realize here on Earth we have far sillier names for rocks and minerals? Like Taconite and Cummingtonite. What makes those names extra funny is they weren't given meme names on purpose. Both of those names were given in the late 19th/early 20th century.

At least for the first film, the visual effects were impressive for the time, as well as it being the first film where the 3D gimmick was worth it. As far as I can tell, the first film is only really impressive from a technical standpoint. That's a valid standpoint, but they don't usually age well.

That image isn't really a fair comparison because the smaller female has a much lighter colour than the larger male. So it's no only size conveying sex, but the colour as well. The male has a darker, harsher colour when contrasted with the fairer looking female.

Wall-E is fascinating because according to the director, most of the story and general idea for the film was done off the clock, for fun, by a small handful of Pixar employees. They didn't even intend for the movie to have a direct environmental message, they just needed a funny and convenient excuse to get humans off the planet. It was a clear project of genuine passion, and thankfully they had the skill to pull it off. These days Pixar seems to be lacking both skill and passion.

Probably Goat, I don't think basketball fans make up a huge part of the audience for animated films, and it's barely been promoted. Hoppers is likely to do the best, Pixar can range anywhere from flop to biggest hit of the year. Cat in the Hat will do better than Goat, but still pretty badly, nothing about it inspires confidence.

The We Baby Bears continuation had an actual pronoun introduction that made me do a double take when I put some of the episodes on as background noise. There were some characters they met and it immediately jumped into a forced coworker ice breaker with the whole
>their pronouns are they/them
>I use they/them pronouns too
exchange. I have a feeling this will become like the Kwanzaa stuff the shows of the 90s pulled where execs/creators wanted to be inclusive and heard some fringe black activists pushing Kwanzaa so they pretended it was a legit holiday during the Christmas specials seasons. 30 years later any black people off the street will be lucky if they know one black family that celebrates Kwanzaa. You're never gonna hear any of the showrunners or execs admit that it was all made up or that the creator was a woman torturer, they just pretend it never happened.

If they were smart they would be using universally liked animals for what's basically a furry movie. Zootopia only hit a billion because everyone loves bunnies and foxes, it wouldn't have done nearly as well if it were a deer and hyena as the MCs. They're stuck with a goat for the MC because of the title and premise but if anything the animal itself is just a debuff unless the rest of the cast picks up the slack.

>Also doing actual pop culture references to Avatar in-universe is dumb. This is the first time Disney has ever done a direct reference to another property like this.
The instant they bought Marvel they had Ultron singing the "I had strings but now I'm free" song from Pinocchio I'm sure there's lots of self-referential stuff if you go back further. Does that make it good? No, but it's definitely not the first time.
