They would seriously need a nation wide reset of their entire culture and government.
I'm talking like something on the scale of the Great Reformation that China did almost 100 yrs ago.
Get rid of the caste system
Caste discrimination restricts who can access education, jobs, or land. If everyone could compete on equal terms, rather than being pigeonholed by birth, India would gain a much larger pool of skilled workers, entrepreneurs, scientists, and leaders. The result? More innovation, better businesses, and stronger GDP growth. A caste-free India would help ensure that political power isn’t locked up by entrenched groups. It would make representation fairer, elections less identity-driven, and policy more focused on people’s real needs like education, health care, infrastructure, rather than appeasing caste blocs.
>Remove the influence of religion over common sense
Indian's general population are very superstitious and believe in all kinds of mysticism and paranormal nonsense that causes them to allow behaviors that impede on progress such as allowing cows and other pests to roam and defecate wherever they want simply because they think they are "sacred".
Ban the dumping of garbage and waste into the river Ganges.
Strictly enforce public urination and defecation- place free public restrooms everywhere.
Enforce a one child policy, like China did to get the population boom under control.
These changes alone would probably propel India 200 yrs into the future, but it will never happen
