I am sure we all have opinions on the matter, but what approach do you take when you scale?
For me, I usually start with just looking at the direction the series goes in. Like does power flucuate wildly, grow over time, or stay flattened? This usually helps me decide if some things are outliers or not.
After that is character consistency, as in, do the characters maintain a consistent strength in comparison to one another? If not, then I'm more likely to treat higher end showings as outliers.
Usually by that point, I'm ready to look at feats and have an idea of how I would judge them.

So I was going through the archives to see what the reactions to Invincible's final issues were, but unfortunately there's no storytime for Issue 140 (aka where Thragg and Mark fight on the surface of the sun).
Still it was amusing to see everyone just constantly annoyed by the end of Invincible.
People at the time all still thought of Mark being weaker than Nolan. So the perception of the characters growing in strength in big leaps hadn't formed.
Some people wanted an Allen vs Thragg fight.
Anissa's death was seen as bullshit compared to the number of characters that have survived worse.
