When GM was first posted on /exeg/, I played it, and I'm pretty sure I was the first person to beat the game. When I got to the end and beat the boss, there's nothing that happens afterwards, so I just turned the game off. The guy who posted his screenshots in the thread also didn't post anything after, so I assume he also just turned the game off. Nothing happens unless you wait on that screen doing nothing for 10 entire minutes. I 100% believe that nobody saw the intended ending of the game until it was "discovered" by the official Sonic.EXE troonsquad.
Imagine the disappointment from these guys. Everyone that played it (me and one other guy) beat the boss and then turned it off without seeing the ending. And then we forgot the game entirely within a few hours. I didn't think about it even a single time until it was later revealed to be an offiical troonsquad effort. We didn't comb through the files and squeeze everything out of it like they expected, because why would we? It's boring! The last comment anybody made about Green Mountain was "MARIO if it sucked". It was the definition of a flop
