Simplifying it to compare. Ash's signature mon vs Yugi's signature Duel monster. Of course everyone is going to be considered. On a surface level I think it's hard to compare duel monsters because they rely strictly on game rules. Dark Magician in game could insta-kill something like Blue Eyes if he had the right buffs. But maybe in an actual real time duel Dark Magician might have to act differently.
Not saying that to down play Yugi, his monsters are pretty powerful of course. But there's nothing to discuss by going "actually Pikachu is only level 100 at most so Kuriboh who has an attack of 300 hard stomps".
