Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.

Can't say which is better in theory, but I've stuck with 8x3, with each next set having an slightly higher weight than the last. Last set usually ends in failure. Once I can comfortably do 8x3 I raise the weights by the next minimal increment, and then repeat
As to your question, I don't know if it's advisable to raise the weight to such a high level that you can only do 5 reps instead of 10

I've been trying to make myself diet and exercise for years and this is the first time I'm actually managing to do it. And got my BP down to like 100/70 when I measure in the morning. It almost feels like cheating, everybody else has to use willpower but for me I basically have no choice, I have a metaphorical gun pointed at my head

Let's say you have a blood pressure of 140/100. You tell yourself "I'll surely lose weight so I don't need medication for this". 5 years pass and you're still a fatass with high blood pressure. Only then do you decide to actually lose weight (or you just get a GLP1 prescribed) and your blood pressure lowers to 120/80. Generally yes, but again this depends on how good your form actually is and which accessories you are talking about, increasing weight on bench is different from increasing weight on wrist curls.
If you're doing 15 half reps with cheating and you bump up weight just for ego, you're just asking for injury. If you're doing the exercise correctly and can handle more weight on it, then go ahead.

The reason people should walk is because your body is more like a golden retriever than you think. It just wants to walk and run around and look at shit. It is the natural way of things. Should you also do weights? Sure. But dogs that walk have a "good dog" vibe to them, which you want for your own body. Should you be strong, etc? Yes, obviously, but the problems come when you have strength without the "good goy" vibe, which just looks weird and off putting. 90% of problems encountered here are best addressed with

Today I didn't feel like cooking really, so I made this;
Frozen Brussels's sprouts, nuked in a microwave for 10 minutes.
Preheated oven to 200C convection, cut Brussels sprouts into halves (optional) and put on a wire rack. Add chicken.
Leave in oven for 20 minutes. Prepare a flavorful sauce, it should contain something acidic, something sweet to balance it, something hot, and whatever else you want for flavor. If you eat collagen, add to sauce at this step too.
Heat sauce and add starch slurry until consistency is right, toss brussel's sprouts in sauce, cut up chicken, eat.
~5 minutes actual work, 10 if you go the extra mile and cut the nuked sprouts.
Not bad honestly.

3 Things:
- My mental health is finally "good" now, after years of clinical depression, de-realization and de-personalization. Now that I've felt how much better life is with that fixed, I want to also see how much better things will be if my physical health also gets better. There's so much I can't do or enjoy because I'm fat, and I'm done with missing out.
- I'm disabled, so while I can't build muscle as fast as normal people (by a substantial margin), the little I can gain matters much more to daily life. Being able to sit down at a party without having to scan the room for ways to get back up, being able to walk up stairs without needing to crawl against a wall, every bit of strength I gain directly results in quality of life and probably lifespan (as I'm likely not going to get as old as normal people).
- One of my oldest friends is getting married in 4 months. I'm the groomsman despite us having had not that much contact during my depressive episodes. It's an honor that I don't want to disappoint. Ideally I want to look good, at the very least I refuse to look actively bad on his big day.

I actually first got lean in march 2024 and tracked my progress in this thread. I immiediately went into a bulk for about 14 months and put on 30 pounds. Spent the last 4 months or so dieting back down and lost 24 pounds and look leaner. I plan to do this again until Im 185 lb 15% body fat in like 2 years or so. Im 162 now and probably around 11%. My diet has pretty much just been hitting 140g+ protein with more or less junk depending on bulk or cut. I also recommend just booking the flight as soon as you can afford it. It will light a fire under your ass to hit your goals in time for the flight. I actually went in march at peak bulk and promised some girls Id come back with abs and hit my goals, so im excited to go back in a few days. I remember showing one a picture of me lean and she mocked licking my phone lol. That kinda thing gets you excited to meet your goals. Ngl tho seeing myself chubbed up at peak bulk fucked with me a bit, but I put on around 10 pounds of muscle over the year and look much bigger. Well worth it. Plus I got to eat a shitload!

My ass cheek line has been improving so that means something is happening. I am not even sure if it is a good thing or just related to the weight loss. It is almost impossible to look at pics of your ass and think, what do I want this to look like?
I have asked a ton of people and nobody has a good answer for me, not even what a good lift is for ass work. 1/2/3/4 isn't going to cut it.

The first one makes sense as I was eating at a restaurant, but the other 2 I have no reason for.

Watermelon can vary wildly, I used to think they were bland too, but I was just shit at picking out the sweet/flavorful ones, you have to know what to look for to pick the best ones. Takes awhile to get good as weighing the various factors to be able to pick out a good watermelon, you won't usually find a perfect watermelon that exhibits all the best traits at once so you have to know which are most important.
I go by webbing/spot > weight/roundness > dullness so first I try to find the melons with the most webbing and the most colorful field spot, that usually eliminates like half of them as you can instantly tell at a glance which will be flavorless watery shit as they have next to no webbing or their field spot is pale, once I've separated out all the pale spots and no webbing from there I try to pick the heaviest/roundest melon of them (most time consuming part picking up each melon and feeling for weight, a good melon should feel quite weighty) setting aside the heaviest (and typically also most round ones, weight and roundness usually go hand-in-hand, but not always) ones, if there are any melons left at this point I try to pick out the one with the dullest rind.

Pasta really sucks for weight loss. Its not filling at all for how dense it is with calories making it super easy to overeat, and its pretty much just pure carbs, usually with minimal fiber and other nutrients. Even the whole grain pasta sucks. You can try to make it work by like having a tiny portion of it but even then its like are you really going to be satisfied with a forkful of spaghetti? Stupid question probably, but when the package of a say 500g cut of meat says 200 calories per 100g, it means the ENTIRE thing, fat included, is 1000 calories, right?
So if you don't eat the rendered fat, and you didn't cook it in butter or oil or whatever, then the calories is actually less than 1000?
I've always counted the rendered fat as if I had eaten it, and I will continue to do so, but that is correct right?

I'm going to start taking creatine tomorrow. I just read about loading to get it started faster which involves taking 20-25 grams a day for 7 days before dropping to 5g a day. I expect to gain some weight but how much unsightly bloating can I expect?

Sorry for dumb question, but how do you keep HR so low? I tried starting running (C25K day 1), but didn't manage to rest enough in 1 minute so I took bit longer, and was quickly winded. Even when I just walk its around 125 bpm.
