/fat/ - Fat Loss General
>Who is /fat/ for?
For obstinately obese working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Eating carbs doesn't "keep you in a calorie deficit" (a.k.a weight loss). Eating carbs puts you in a so-called "calorie surplus" a.k.a it causes weight gain.

Counting and restricting calories while eating carbs still results in weight gain. The fattening effect of carbs is inescapable.

Adherence is indeed key. That's why the calorie counting meme has never worked. As if people can measure every morsel they eat, log it in a diary, and force themselves to go hungry forever. What a joke.

CICO isn't even a real diet. It's just a sugar marketing strategy. It was never intended to help people lose weight.

Low-carb is the traditional method of weight loss because it actually works.

Not sustainable vs a mega salad with greens and a few other veg, olives or pickles or something, grilled seasoned chicken, beans, light cheese etc etc and a bowl of lean beef chili or chicken pozole. Dress your salad with (weighed) olive oil and vinegar or a low fat dressing if you’re ok with the ingredient list.

protip: eat just two servings of plain cream of wheat (240 calories). it will keep you full for hours. you can add milk, and sugar or berries, and salt if you want but just plain does the trick with very few calories. it's my standard low-calorie breakfast when i'm not being super active that day.

it takes 1 minute in the microwave to make you have to watch it like a hawk though. if you walk away it will puff up and overflow the bowl and make a giant mess. just stand there in front of the microwave and watch it through the window. when it starts puffing up into a pillow then you let it get near the top of the bowl and then open the microwave and stir it until it settles back down. then put it back in the microwave and let it blow up into a pillow again, take it out and stir. it's done. less than 1 minute cook time.

I make 5 on Sunday night and the last one is still good on Friday. I use 8oz mason jars with 6oz yogurt for a ~250 cal serving but you could go bigger, change up ratios whatever. It’s the only breakfast meal prep that works for me because I find all the microwaved egg slop things disgusting

Your fat cells act as both storage for water and calories. When you lose weight your fat back fills the lipids lost with water, however taking on water while trying to release lipids creates a strong osmotic pressure to not release the lipids. Meaning that your fat cells will release fewer calories when you're waterlogged and you get more hungry and tired.
Try dry fasting a little bit. Thirst overwrites hunger by a large margin. You don't have to go full schizo about it, just keep yourself a little bit thirsty and suddenly you won't feel hunger. Plus breaks become more manageable because you just drink a little bit and move on.

I am not going to say that keto doesn't work, because I have a lost a lot of weight with it in the past, without counting calories. But when I reached a plateau I went back to eating like normal, because there is no way in hell I am not going to eat carbs for the rest of my life, and of course, I regained the weight. So in the end the whole thing was pointless because keto is not something that most people can do sustainably. Counting calories takes at most 5 minutes of my time every day, I can eat whatever I want (in moderation), and it is easily something that I could continue doing for the rest of my life.

Glad to hear anon, I just had to mention it because I got a fungal infection (nothing serious, just discoloration and itching) at much less weight from that area between moobs and belly touching for too long and getting sweaty while sitting hunched over at a pc. Read this link in the op
https://weight-loss-side-effects.netlify.app/

Do the skincare stuff to move the needle slightly, but mostly:
- stretch marks will lose color over time but not go away, it's scar tissue. They become much harder to see though in the process.
- Gyno goes away 75%+ of the time with weightloss, because it's not real gyno, just fat deposits. If it's real gyno, sorry to say, it'll stay until you get surgery. So lose the weight, most likely it goes away, if not you can still fix it then.
- loose skin shrinking is 99% time. You can help mildly with mentioned methods, but mostly it's time.

Either way, stop making excuses. Lose the weight, you'll look better for it, I promise. Likely most issues will go away by themselves and the ones that don't you can still deal with then.

Sweat meaning weight loss is a legacy misunderstanding. Its not the truth, raising your heart rate (which is easier in a warm environment) is how you lose weight. Relaxing in a sauna for example isnt weight loss.

That's the biggest part to realize in the process of this stuff, that anons are considering if their approach is min/maxed while disregarding the bigger picture, which is that basically every health aspect gets better as you lose the weight.
It's like watching a snuff film and being concerned the torturer may use non sustainably sourced tools.
The short is I'd much rather not be fat and have all of these issues than still be fat. And it's not like you can't regain the fat if you really wanted to. It's just the fatty brain making up excuses to get us not to act.

>>76558132
Better cardiovascular health, higher fitness level, lower weight. It'd be a surprise if your sweating didn't get better. You can increase intensity if you feel like it, but overall that's a good sign, you're making it anon.
