/fat/ - Fat Loss General
>Who is /fat/ for?
For sleepy snackers working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros) or LoseIt (great for both).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 1g per lb of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and burn fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body burning away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat hyper-processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Yeah, putting calories in yourself when fasting breaks the fast, so in reality you're having breakfast. Eating is the opposite of fasting, so it indeed isn't real fasting. You should say
>even if it's not a "real" meal
Anonymous No.76787007 [Report]
>>76787001
you don't
i was never fat enough to get loose skin when I lost weight, but if you have a LOT of loose skin (100-150+ pounds lost) then your only option is surgery.
some people claim that fasting to lose the weight reduces how much loose skin you end up with, but I have yet to see any actual evidence

Who gives a shit? Unless you haven't eaten for 3 days you're not really fasting because your GI tract takes 3 days for food to travel through it. You fags don't understand that after a day of not eating your colon is still absorbing hundreds of calories a day so a little bit of calories means fuck all.

If you say so. The bougie grocery near me makes unbelievable almond croissants and flaky cherry pastries I started eating over my recent stint as a fat fuck. The cherry pastries are kind of like the ones you can get from Panera but somehow better. I don't know what it is about croissant variant desserts that hit so hard but they're the only food I'd spend a cheat day on. I'm nowhere near ready for a cheat day though and the first time around whenever I went in on a cheat day it never actually felt worth it.

I've considered trying it. While I was regaining weight after the lockdowns I was still walking everywhere. Carrying a multiple card binders and heavy deck boxes on my back for miles to the card shop and back as well as near-nightly two mile walks carrying too much food was some of the only exercise I've really gotten in the past few years. I've thought about tossing a couple of 20 lb dumbbells in my bag and walking so I don't need to keep the good part of the habit tied to old bad habits.
How much weight do you use and how many miles do you walk?

strange really even when 310lbs my face wasn't fat fat, just a kind of blob because the fat was covering it. still have 65lbs to go until i get my good looks back, it's been 6 years since i've seen them. i'm noticing them a little even now so my face must've gotten more masculine over the years as a fatty. can't wait to see the results.

high protein, 10-20% calorie deficit. reduce volume by 1/3 but maintain the same weight on the bar.
so if you normally do 100kg for 3 sets of 5 reps, you'd do 100kg for 2 sets of 5 reps. depending on how long you cut, you'll need to reduce volume again by another third, so you'd be down to 100kg for 1 set of 5 reps. the tension on your muscle tells you body it needs it, so it will try it's best to preserve muscle and strength adaptions, as long as you have the adequate protein. of course while cutting you'll still lose some muscle mass and strength. take a diet break (eat at maintenance calories) if your strength drops too much (if you care about it more than fat loss).

When you start lifting the first gains are usually from nervous system alignment, work efficiency and the such, not muscle gain itself. Down the path legs especially are infamous for the DOMS. The 4 hour recovery sounds to me more like glycogen replenishment. But if you really do recover that fast, it's great. Just in case that changes down the line, I still recommend planning a better split you can switch to when the time comes. And it doesn't need to be perfect, just a skeleton you can intuitively fill. Much of the journey is about discovery, and it is the very core of what makes it permanent.

After the adaptation phase your muscles enter the growth phase. This is where pushing your muscles to failure will start bringing fatique and DOMs, requiring deloads. The smart recovery becomes paramount here. Pushing too hard risks injury, not enough recovery means higher frequenzy of deloads. Finding the optimals is very much individual.

During the CNS phase you seem to be on means you can do cardio at the same time. After you move to the muscle growth phase it's wise to separate them a bit. I only do heavy cardio (HR medium-high) on deload weeks, and light cardio (brisk walk, light jog) every other day during my regular. I do it in the evening mainly for circulation, keeping a good 4-6h separation from my workout.

You could try IF fasting & medium-high HR cardio in the mornings before putting a single calorie in you, as this uses up a big part of its' energy demand from fat directly. But always remember to load glycogen before gym, peotein after. Starving yourself here would only plateau your progress.

For me it was an entire bag of oreos with a large glass of whole milk, during each and every 4 hours gain EXP sesh. I'd plan out the whole day to have everything ready so I could hit the ground running as soon as gain hit.

Sunday from 6am to 10am, Monday from 10pm to 2am, and Wednesday from 2pm to 6pm, so three bags of oreos a week. Party size bags are 64 cookies, so about 3360 for each bag, 10,080 calories a week from just oreos and I was eating that on top of everything else.

I did that for years and went from 160lbs to nearly 400lbs.

I haven't noticed a difference desu, tendons heal super slow anyway, so I guess some immediate caloric variations will significantly influence the process

I injured my spine and got a golfer's elbow roughly at the same time, so I was forced to prematurely end my bulk, I was getting a little too fat anyway.
I started PSMF and went from 105kg to 99.9kg within roughly 3 weeks, I let myself do a weekend cheat on Friday and Saturday, but now I'm back on track, I have another 3 weeks to go, then I'll probably switch to like 2000 cals and low carb for 2 weeks to taper off and maybe still lose a little bit of fat.
My supp stack is 1g of ALCAR orally (so it probably does jackshit), 500mg green tea extract, some fat burner pill I got from someone that are mostly caffeine, 10mg yohimbine before workouts or walks.
Pic rel is me at ~105kg (6'3") or possibly slightly more, could be as well 106. Look at this fucking gut, I'd probably have to go below 95kg to not look stupid and that's an optimistic estimation. 95kg isn't outside the realm of possibility with my plan though, but looking good might be. We'll see, I'll probably post pics when I'm done.

if you want to just lose the weight and aren't concerned about the side effects or cost then I say go for it. The reason why I think most of us are here is because we're not just trying to lose weight, but also build healthy eating habits and a better relationship with food so we don't immediately gain it all back if/when we reach our goal.

Remember, around 80% of people who COMPLETE their weight loss journeys and hit their goal weight gain it all back or more within 5 years

I haven't read the book because lmao, why would you read a book if the most important guidelines could be a short pamphlet.
I've been on it for almost 4 weeks. I don't know what the book covered, but my real life advice would be:
>don't binge hard on your refeed days, you'll yank your dopamine and serotonin so hard you might get legit depressed on the following day
>consider adding gelatin to your sauces/soups
>find ways to make your food last longer and have more volume, look up konjac noodles, make pseudo-soups, turn your whey into flavoured jello-pudding, chew on cucumbers and carrots and so on, find time and energy to create some variety in your meals
>if you're so hungry your head hurts and you can't sleep, drink some milk, maybe even eat a little and take ibuprofen
>take a good multi
>feel free to smoke weed before your meals, you'll feel fuller (srs)
>have some healthy fats from time to time, a hundred cal won't sabotage your cut and might save your hormones

Day 13 of exercising twice a day on a deficit.
went to a grill's house last night for sex (which counts as my evening workout based on how I do it). She tried to tempt me with cookies. I had 2.2 because it fit into my calories for the day and I went to sleep hungry. Chocolate chip and cranberry.
She said I was feeling so different and so firm. My pp worked very hard. I'm proud of it.
Did my 45 minutes of incline walk cardio today and got nice and sweaty again. I love doing this. Dick works better, getting leaner, and all these fucking apples are making the calorie craving easier. I'm on the weak end though and about to do my Monday refeed so excited abt that.
My new hypothesis is that upping sodium and water during a cut somehow locks in more water to your inflamed muscles and reduces cravings while making recovery better. I don't mind having extra sodium on a cut if it means I crave less and feel better. I feel like a lot of my previous attempts at cutting were sabotaged by not consuming a cautious overabundance of salt in my food/drink.

was supposed to workout yesterday, moved it to today, now i dont want to workout today either so i'll only have worked out 2 times this week instead of my desired 3 times a week which even that is shit, i see ppl on here doing 5-6 times a week.
i really dont think ill ever be one of those guys that have those strong primal urges to really lock in and get fit/strong, im just so lazy.

what do you mean by "cutting" and "recomp"?
recomp is just a 300 calorie deficit while maxxing protein.
you should already be doing this.

Well, no need to max protein. Just up to 2.2g per kilo of lean. Carbs are important for the intense training. In recomp the fat burn comes from activity rather than the deficit. As muscles grow the fat burn hastens. Deficit is also in the grey area generally.

I keep thinking that I'm so hungry and then I make food or I heat up leftovers and I don't even come close to finishing it, maybe half. And then I think, damn, I wasn't actually that hungry at all and I probably could have had something for way less calories. Why didn't I? I'm not on any weight loss injections or anything. This just keeps happening and I'm left with a lot of regret after eating. It's not even crying because I'm going to get so fat, it's just crying that I'm wasting food. Because eventually I have to throw leftovers away, eventually I don't want the leftovers when it's the same three meals I made way too much of and then I really don't want it by the time that it's collectively been in the fridge for a week. At the time I'm cooking I just feel so hungry and like I need to make a decent portion and it sounds good so the idea of eating it throughout the week doesn't bother me until it's the end of the week and I'm really tired of the same pasta.
