The 4000 Super Series launched @ CES 2024 here's how things stood when the SUPERs launched then vs. November/Black Friday 2023 vanilla card prices that preceded it:

Note that in the past BF sales begin about 1-2 weeks before Black Friday itself with the really good sales actually becoming OoS by the time the day arrives so plan accordingly.

I keep reading Samsung 870 EVOs had a LOT of failures, but despite that they seem to be my only option. (something about them being manufactured around 2021, I have no way to check before buying)
I need SATA, because I only got 2 m2 slots and one is occupied.
I need about 2x4TB for now, later upgrading to 3x4TB with 2 HDDs being my backup.
Might just get a 2.5 and an m2 for now.

Usecase is basically needing shit ton of storage, but can't run NAS wd reds because of noise.
Are WD blues better? I read they are leaving the SSD market.

Again you can see the vanilla cards still held their value at retail for reason I really don't know why. The best deals were probably used cards being dumped by upgraders on Ebay though.

I had a 870 EVO that failed, but all that went wrong was the fuse getting blown. Which has to be 99% planned obsolescence because none of my other hardware showed the least amount of problems, plus I use high tier corsair/seasonic power supplies.
Either way, I just desoldered the fuse and patched it with a small wire. It works now and it has been working fine ever since.

Since then I got a 980, two 990s (4tb) and a 8tb pm883, and none of them have shown any issues whatsoever. That last one has endurance in multiple petabytes.

Is that 2 Molex fans connected with an adapter. The adapter has a 3pin fan header? IThe motherboard should have some manual fan speed tuning if you use the 3pin. The voltage will be the same but bigger fans spin a little slower at the same voltage. The max voltage and min voltages are gonna be about the same so as long as you don't turn the speed too low it should be fine.

The 5090 is a terrible card, the entire 5000 series is terrible actually. The 5090 has basically improved nothing over the 4090, they just made an even fatter card and dumped more power into it. I am not sure how well it will actually hold up over several years because I expect the 6090 to utterly shred its asshole apart because it will come with a real node shrink, which means real perf/W and raw perf improvements. The 4090 was an amazing leap for its time (also had a real node shrink) but the 5090 is just a dogshit stopgap product with hardly any improvement, just something to fill the market with until they make a real upgrade.

Buying one of the most expensive card in one of the worst generations NVIDIA made in terms of perf improvement probably won't age well. Buy a 50-series card if you must, because you have no other options, but this is not the generation to "invest" in since it's one of the very bad ones.

Hello guys. I rarely post here.
I want to buy an OLED 4k monitor.
My budget is 1k usd at best.

I have some questions:
1. How bad/noticeable is DSC? Is it even worth to reduce frequency from 240 to 120 Hz to get rid of it?
For 4k@240hz which one is better DP1.4 or HDMI 2.1?
I see mixed answers online. Some people say that both can do it but only with DSC.
But HDMI 2.1 has more bandwith and I've heard that DSC is dynamic and has multiple levels of compression so if there is no room left it will use heavier compression.
Is this true? If yes then should I use HDMI 2.1 in this case?
Is it even worth it buying oled with very high refresh rate if my card does not supports DP 2.1?

2. What are good models? I was looking into these 3

4. If I can't afford 5090 and DSC and VRR flicker are bad then should I just buy decent IPS? I was thinking to get LG UltraGear 32GR93U-B instead

1080p is HD, you've been HD gaming.
MSI G272QPF E2 is an alternative, but it will probably be similar in terms of image quality.
Don't use HDR mode for these IPS monitors btw, they don't have a good implementation.

for $400 you can get AOC Q27G3XMN miniled on canada computers.
But note VRR flicker (caused a game stuttering, wont happen while watching movies / smooth fps / disable VRR), Mini LED artifacts (the zones are noticeable in the dark / high contrast), and the fact the US has a $350 USD version that better in every way (Q27G40XMN, 1150 zones instead of 350 zones, and I think it does not have VRR flickering, BUT the new version has a shit stand, but a better vesa stand costs $40).
It's a good VA monitor, but IPS would have better motion clarity, but the VA should do a lot better than IPS in a dark room & HDR (VA should look more punchier in the dark, and mini-led zones helping with dark content like horror and sci-fi and etc).
The problem with any other IPS display is that unless you currently own a 60hz office monitor (like $70 & 4:3 aspect), a new IPS display might not be "better", & if you are 60hz, you should be worried about your PC specs, maybe a 24 inch 180hz 1080p IPS display for $200~ CAD is a better pick (good for a 5060, but not 5070 TI).

I would say $600 in canadian is stupid, but I forgot that $350 US converts to $500, so you are just paying a $100 tip.
But you can get a OLED for $800 CAD (ASUS ROG Swift 34" OLED 240 Hz at Canada Computers, but it's ultrawide... so instant burn in for any 16:9 content, and curved... decent price however, but not shippable), which destroys a mini-led in everything except burn in (I think careful use can stretch a oled's life to 10 years, like lowering the brightness and not using it more than 4 hours at a time and keeping it cool / low humidity).

DSC is fine, not worth schizoing over.
But you can't use it if you want to use features like DLDSR, I don't think this is an issue for 4K gaming.

MO32U and AG326UD doesn't appear to provide firmware updates. MSI 321UP does.
I would decide betweent he 321UP or FO32U2.

A more realistic option is to set a lower maximum FPS limit so your system can consistently hit that number @ 4K resolution, most newer games have their own internal max FPS limit options.

How so? I was expecting a 1440p monitor would be as big of a jump as going from 60hz to 144hz, I can't go back to 60 now. Like apparently you don't even need to use anti aliasing with 1440p, that's a crazy quality upgrade.

There are too many horror stories about that pos.
People end up re-packing that crap, ship it back, LG "repairs" it (not replaced), and some of the repair work fails after a few months.
Don't take chances with monitors, PSUs, and motherboards.

How do I narrow down what the best cheap monitor is when everybody only ever talks about the heckin 1440p 365Hz HDR30+ SEXOLEDs? Are there at least any rules of thumb I can follow? Maybe QC is easier for manufactuers on budget VAs than budget IPSs? Maybe one company is known for putting more effort into their cheap panels, and another company is known for putting zero effort into their cheap panels? dsc doesn't matter. The new rtx 5k series can do dldsr over dsc connections now.

VRR flicker is probably only a problem if you need vrr because you are getting sub 120 fps. Just turn down the game settings to get higher fps to compensate for it.

You need to understand you're looking at a price point of under $500 for what you described, not some ebin enthusiast shit. The Q27G3XMN is 1440/180 miniLED for under $300 and is considered a budget monitor. At your price range your best option is going to walmart and buying the first piece of e-waste you see in the electronics section.

Fairly sure 265KF is overall more powerful, but it's not a big difference and 9700X has like half the total power draw and it's socket means you'll actually be able to upgrade it, whereas upgrading the 265KF will require you getting a whole new mobo

If you really want Intel I suggest waiting until the next year.

The 265KF is gonna be an appreciable jump in application performance over the 9700X, but the Z890 is a dead socket that will be replaced by Nova Lake on LGA1954 next year that will actually have future release compatibility.

Meanwhile AM5 will have an upgrade path to Zen 6 next year and Zen 7 as well later. Plus it's cheaper. I'd go with the 9700X bundle.

GPU recommendation is whatever depending on your budget but RTX 5000 Super cards are due out in months possibly before the end of the year.
