This is the cope because you have to justify your large purchase as more than just being charged a low skill tax and falling for shiny = good. Apple users rely on all their fellow users having this mindset and not being willing to suffer the embarrassment of telling the truth.

I have a Mac Studio I bought late last year. The upgraded model, even. I hate it and avoid using it under any circumstances that I possibly can. I still use my mid-level Windows Desktop from 2019, my meme Kickstarter mini phone, and even my almost falling apart 3+ year old chink phone before I'll touch my Mac.

The UI is horrible and unintuitive. The software incompatibility with exe files makes it basically a useless machine when it comes to programs and and digital art locking you into Apple's overpriced memeware that they want you to download from an APP STORE like you're using a phone. Imagine buying what's supposed to be "the most powerful computer in the world" and getting told you have to use an iToddler app store and the main selling point is you can send TEXT MESSAGES like it's an iPhone omg. Even the few third-party software applications that you CAN use are obnoxiously annoying beyond comprehension. No matter how many times you've opened and used them each time you try to open it the computer has a hemorrhage and goes: "NOOO SCARY! I BLOCKED THIS MEAN MEAN BAD PROGRAM FROM OPENING BECAUSE ITS NOT SAFE FOR YOU!!!!!" and then you have to go into the setting and access TWO DIFFERENT menus and enter a password TWICE just to open the stupid program. And then because Apple only wants you to use their memeware the aspect ratio and font are all screwed up and hard to read unlike Windows, Linux, or anything else where it just works.

Mac is for toddlers that need to be sat down in front of closed network of colorful baby apps to push and click and listen to the funny noises they make. Literally Jitterbug tier.

They were for a long time but OS X's gotten significantly worse and the hardware's a joke at this point. OS X's still probably a decent choice for Unix with commercial application support but Windows is now the inverse, commercial applications with *nix support. Macs are just overpriced Apple‑only junk that locks you into a closed ecosystem, forcing you to pay huge prices for upgrades or repairs while missing out on many games and niche professional apps available on Windows; the hardware is rigid and costly to upgrade, software options are limited unless you shell out extra money, and support costs are sky‑highβ€”so if you want real value, performance, and freedom, stick with a Windows PC.

Generally it's rare that you'd ever need to. I've had a Macbook M1 Pro since it came out and it feels as good as new, and with 32GB RAM onboard I don't feel like I'll need to upgrade anything on it. the operating system is honestly the selling point to me, once you're familiar with it as you are with Windows you realize one of them must be willingly designed to be as painful as possible to use, there's no way they just mistakenly made Windows that awful

it's a very fortunate coincidence that the hardware is excellent as well, I'd be willing to compromise on it and get a 4kg plastic piece shit with a 2 hours battery life and a 720p screen if it was the only way of using macOS with a decent trackpad

Windows has gotten so bad that im genuinely looking at a mac as my next computer. Its a joke, and the whole scene around it for some reason just takes it like its normal and expects you to do all these workarounds to have any control over the system at all.
>just install xyz toolkit and run these powershell commands and maybe the xbox live games bar will turn off until the next windows update turns it back on
I know macOS isnt that much better, but theres far less intrusive shit going on.
My windows 10 machine has been bothering me at least once a week about upgrading to windows 11 and it never lets me choose an option like "absolutely never" and instead only gives me "not right now". And then it comes back next week.
I turn the setting off that prompts it to do that, and the next update turns that setting back on automatically.
And i cant just turn off updates, it doesnt let you.

Windows 7 if i went to windows updates and just turned them off, they stayed off. If i wanted defender off, it stayed off. If i wanted to disable almost every single non essential service in the OS, i could do so with impunity and they would stay off.
Windows 10 has just taken all control away from me as a user and 11 is far worse than that. I dont really know where to go from here because i dont want to be a part of that but i also dont want to jump in modern macOS for similar reasons, but its still somehow looking like a better option.

/long ass rant
what im really doing is buying time while i judge if my IBS is going to require me to shit a second time before i leave for work, by typing a whole lot and feeling it out

I would do this, but janny deletes my posts and bans me when I criticize Apple products, so at this point I am inclined to acquire the smallest possible MacBook, refer to it as a MaidBook, and see if I can make it useful somehow. The machine is made from aluminum. I could stickerblast it so it is completely covered in maids, and then use an xacto knife to cut the stickers off around the shiny Apple logo on the back.

Do they have any devices that still have the rainbow Apple? I like that more than the chrome one. The chrome one looks like a hood ornament.

If I do this, I will also post a lot of MaidBook threads and make art for it so that nobody can ever post about Apple products again without most of the posts becoming MaidBook enthusiasm and discussions about running compilers on the MaidBook to make advanced Mathematics and Computer Science research. I don't actually care that iOS is spyware, because all the computer is for is producing things I would release to Public Domain anyways. Tim Cook can spy alpha copies of my programming language. I don't care.

The only problem is that the form factor is not very nice and the machine is too bulky, plus the hardware is underpowered, so it feels like a worst of all worlds scenario.

>tl;dr: Suggest MaidBook candidates.

These are still too big. Maybe I should go the opposite direction and get the best MaidBook Pro? The problem is the marketing page is hard to navigate. I can't see actual specs beyond screen size and it having an M4 chip. Also, I am not sure I have a usecase for a laptop. I got a Science Grant to buy a GPD Win 5, but they removed the physical keyboard and added a battery backpack unit, so I don't want it. It isn't a Maid Computer, it is more like a worse Steam Deck. I really don't like having to sit down or have special furniture or tables to use the computer. I could use it to get the biggest possible MaidBook Pro, but I am not sure what I would actually do with it. Programming on a handheld is much more comfortable than a laptop.

Every year it becomes harder to argue against them, even for the die hard Apple hating crowd.
First they blew other laptops out of the water in the display department, then they started dominating in performance and efficiency as well.
Apple Silicon is legit amazing in terms of performance per watt, which is hugely important in a laptop. Shit like fast storage and unified memory are also huge, especially for local AI models.
They got their own downsides but with the Windows situation only ever getting worse (meaning Apple gets a comfy "do nothing -> win" situation) they become more appealing by the year.

I actually do play Crusader Kings 3 on a Macbook Pro, and I see people bitching about CK3's performance and it being slow and waaaah adding China will make it worse!!! but on my Macbook if I put it to speed 5 (which runs it as fast as the CPU can handle) it's unplayably fast. So I don't know what kind of performance people are getting on x86 machines but it's clearly nowhere near as good as on a Mac.

For CPU-heavy games Macs are really good. For GPU-heavy it's harder to say because usually it ends up being either through some emulation layer or MoltenVK or similar, but I would generally not expect the same performance from a laptop GPU as I would from a desktop GPU in any case, if only due to airflow and thermal regulation abilities.

Cyberpunk 2077 has a native Metal renderer and the performance is good but not amazing (well, in some ways it's better, HDR on Retina does make many areas look gorgeous just from the better colours even if some other settings had to get turned down), though I've heard from people on the next macOS version's beta that the performance with Metal 4 is much better.

btw Windows also has a Microsoft Store.

>and the main selling point is you can send TEXT MESSAGES like it's an iPhone omg
this has never been the main selling point.

>No matter how many times you've opened and used them each time you try to open it the computer has a hemorrhage and goes: "NOOO SCARY! I BLOCKED THIS MEAN MEAN BAD PROGRAM FROM OPENING BECAUSE ITS NOT SAFE FOR YOU!!!!!"
another made up claim. you can turn off blocking opening unsigned software in your security settings and never be bothered again.
this is the equivalent of UAC prompts on Windows.
how dare Apple protect their customers from installing malware!
if you are a researcher or developer who download a lot of unsigned applications frequently, you already bypassed this.

>you have to go into the setting and access TWO DIFFERENT menus and enter a password TWICE
nope only once, that's your admin password.

You sound like someone who never owned a Macbook nor an Apple machine. You just seethe all day at Apple because you can't afford it.

The UI being horrible is the only thing the other anon said which I agree with. Somehow Macos ends up feeling like the Temu version of Ubuntu Touch, despite having a trillion dollar company behind it. I think it is because the talent level of the engineers and designers was intentionally decreased via H1B hiring, to save money.

If they had a less dogshit UI on their laptops and desktops, the machines would be much better.

I will say that Apple has the best drawing software and it isn't even close. Procreate alone is worth an iPad Pro and pen.

That weight is what gives it performance you fucking retard
If anything I want laptops to get bigger and two pounds heavier so that they can get fans and heatsinks that can tie desktop clock speeds

Then keep your flatshit craptop with no igpu?
You're not doing anything demanding on it when you're using it in its portable form, you're plugging in a mouse and a power cable when you're doing more than just text entry or phone tier use cases

>The UI being horrible
I'm not saying macOS Aqua is perfection, but I still don't get why it's "horrible" compared to others on Windows and Gnome / KDE (popular DE on Linux)

The Windows UI is ugly, but it is functional and easy to use. The MacOS UI is both ugly and frustrating to use. It literally feels like a buggy, slow, half complete version of Ubuntu Touch.

If they fixed the UI, their machines would be much better overnight, but Tim Cook is more of a finance guy than a tech guy and H1Bs laborers make the line go up faster than a beautiful, responsive, easy to use UI. This is why Apple has sort of been in decline since he took over and why every product feels basically like a clone of the last one, with some marginal hardware improvements. Just enough innovation to get people already in the ecosystem to stay there, but nowhere near the level of innovation they had when Jobs was still alive. When they do try to innovate, it ends up being a disaster like the Vision Pro was, because nobody at that company actually knows how to innovate anymore.

because he has been spamming the board for around ten years, nearly every single day, with the same trash. since anons started exposing this failure, jannies are now doing damage control to cover up their attacks on users that criticize apple products and any evidence documenting the spam

All of those things were dramatically more innovative in their time than just making a "new" iPhone which is basically just the last iPhone with slight hardware tweaks. He also worked in an era of better engineers, since most of his work was pre-H1B. Jobs was kind of awesome. Cook is just a financebro who ended up in the wrong industry.
