NVIDIAโs Discrete GPU Market Share Swells To 94%, AMD Drops To 6%
So, it happened AGAIN. We can blame paper launches, we can blame scalpers, we can praise AMD's efforts but the truth is it's simply not enough. MSRP, steam survey figures, you name it, it all stinks.
Don't get me wrong, I still have full faith in Lisa Su and the lads, but MASSIVE restockings are desperately needed in September. Otherwise I'm not very optimistic about the RX 9070 GRE, or it outselling the RTX 50 Supers for that matter. Not shipping like this. What do you think, /pcbg/? #RadeIN or #RadeOUT?

It seems a bit crazy to me that AMD and nVidia both use TSMC for their products, since it means they're basically fighting over a finite resource to produce cards while in direct competition for market sales. It seems like the bottleneck - and thus the lack of stock, above-MSRP price gouging, etc - is down to the lack of competing fabrication facilities.

Nvidia doesn't give a crap either and would rather sell more profitable ML/AI-tier SKUs for their production lot if the yields were better.

Only way I'll buy an AMD card is if it's free.
I started with an Nvidia card and the only time I experienced significant problems with any piece of PC hardware is when I "upgraded" from a GTX 560 Ti to an R9 380 based on a recommendation from AMD evangelists.
Oh yeah it was faster but the CTDs and the visual issues in some games make it suck. I held on to it it because "muh AMD fine wine" but every driver just fixed one thing to bring another.

Nigger, the number of companies that would've been considered monopolies over 20 years ago is insane. Nothing is being done because it's better for a country to make a ton of money than it is to think about consumers or freedom of choice.
If America were to punish nVidia, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Cloudflare, etc. they'd lose the market war to China. Not to mention almost every single politician is either directly paid by these companies or has stocks in them. It's become unaffordable to go against monopolies.

The 7800GTX, which probably released before you were born, was $600 MSRP and it was not top of the line, that was the 7900 (or the 7950 if I remember correctly which was two sandwiched 7900s).
That's almost $1000 in today's money, even by the bogus government inflation figures. If you go by gold price which is closer to real inflation, it'd be something like $5000.

>they're just not selling well enough.
Maybe they shouldn't be retailing for $200 above MSRP for the lowest bin models then.

AMD couldn't afford the high volume to get more market. else they wouldn't have kept the prices so high for so long on 9070 and 9070XT. I don't think they even expected such high demand for them

Amd refuses to fix their ram, their low power states, their usb ports and all manner of other quality of life issues and they wonder why they are still treated like the second class citizens they are.
Intel has gone to shit lately but amd refuses to acknowledge their issues and actually compete with intel or nvidia.
Retards are going to retard and fall for it though. Amd are the nigger jeetware of the tech world.

I mean, AMD is (or was) going all-in on Ryzen, Radeon was a sidegig. And they had limited amounts of money. Meanwhile, Nvidia had and has 10 times as much as money as AMD does and has never slacked on R&D like Intel. It only makes sense that AMD would struggle to catch up.

Problem is GPU RAM is like 14GHz buss speed now so we are far into the microwave range now. No human (let alone idiot) compatible socket exists for those speeds.
300KM/sec / 14000000000 is about 21mm separating the data bits in a wire....
The real problem with GPU ram is timing the data lines....

I have already realized my rtx 3090 will never be obsolete. Instead, I sidestepped to Intel's dGPU lineups.
I have an Arc a380 and b580 for my servers
I'm going to buy several b60 workstation cards for my homelab when they finally come out.
When AMD is going to stop acting like discount-Nvidia, I might consider using them again.
The RX 580 was lightning in a bottle, and they started falling behind again.

3080 was a concerned response to big RDNA2. Nvidia saw what smallish RDNA2 was pulling off in XSX/PS5 and thought a big version would spank Ampere hard. Most of Ampere was build on cheap/but shitty Samsung 10nm node (marketed as 8nm) so it would have not impact margins by much.

3080 was a fluke. Nvidia stop using big version of their silicon with xx80 brand starting with Kepler. 3080 was a concerned reason that was later discontinued and replaced with the more expensive 3080Ti/3080 12GiB SKUs.

i haven't used radeon since pre HL2 days, so i wouldn't know if anything is wrong with it. nvidia is just so readily available. i used a radeon on a home media pc though, no problems there.
