Trump's entire narrative is that Ukraine is a waste of money and scamming America, that's the line he ran on and sticks to it. It's literally that simple, he doesn't want the US to bare any financial burden whatsoever, which is why he doesn't want to do secondary sanctions either, at least not against China, but is happy to fleece Europe for cash and sell weapons.
Good luck explaining to him the benefits of sending shit scheduled for decommissioning, of joint R&D with Ukraine, observing field performance of weapons, and other more abstract ways that the US MiC gains on this, not even mentioning the diplomacy, soft power, and global stability.
