Yes, there was. They even fought a few large-scale pitched battles such as the Glières plateau, Vercors, and the Liberation of Paris itself. They were just never as effective or numerous as popularly portrayed. Their contribution to intelligence was by absolutely invaluable to the Allied cause though.
