For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

Starting to use Tamiya Panel Liner, but I can only find Testor's enamel thinner locally. Will that work for cleanup? They had it labeled brush cleaner also and my Tamiya airbrush cleaner seemed to melt the PS I tested it on.

I'd say it is VERY good so far

The whole inner frame is very impressive and I don't see any issues with the upscaling from the RG size.

Just be aware that the plastic of the medium light color (like in the thighs) is very hard. Not the hard-brittle kind, but just hard and it may be a bit difficult to make the parts fit properly without using more force than you normally expect.

There is also the fact that like 80% of the parts or so are undergated, so cleaning them is easier than expected, yes that includes most of the inner frame too.

Add the weapons which includes the napalm module for the beam rifle, 2 bazookas, the javelin, the hammer and a curved beam saber effect and this seems like the best 1/100 scale RX-78-2 you can get for its price (50 bucks or so).

I think they're pretty comparable, aside from Bandai blunting all the sharp points. Otherwise the details look very similar to my eye. They both need their panel lines to be rescribed if painting.

I didn't get the idea you were going for with the backpack bits being puttied up, and the modification to the torso stood out as being layered styrene sheets since the edges weren't smoothed out. I have a probably heretical question. Can I ink with regular marker pen you get from the typical stationery shop? Like whiteboard marker, just super fine of course, to fit the lines. I went to do sort of a trial run before committing to buying all those various specialized ink and methods and whatnot mentioned in the guides.

Yes, people used to like panel lining with micron pens and stuff. You can also do it with a graphite pencil.

Depending on the marker/pen you use you might have to worry about it rubbing off though, unless you seal it in with topcoat.

If you use enamel based paint like tamiya's panel line fluid then a coat of paint or gloss protects the plastic from being damaged by harsh solvents in the paint. Not necessary if you panel line with something else. And not strictly necessary even with TPLA as long as you're careful with the parts and ensure they aren't under any stress until the paint dries.

Micron pens suck ass for panel lining. The ink sticks too hard too fast. It's damn near impossible to wipe off with your finger so cleaning it up as you go is miserable. They're not even cheaper than a felt tipped panel liner.

Over time I'm coming to like the Zeta "weird" designs more and more, but I'm also still hesitant because they feel the most like suits that aren't supposed to be altered.

Like I feel no qualms about fucking around with a GM or a Zaku but I feel like a R-Jarja is done, that's the design, at most I might repaint it.

Bought a tamiya kit because the old man died and because you people keep shilling them. I will report back after painting it Char Aznable colors.

Building the Master Grade EX Freedom. Love it so far, but finding difficulty with the gold injection parts. Cutting them free from the runners leaves a nasty looking scar, and sanding it down doesn't work since that just removes the finish.

Does anyone have a good method for nub removal that keeps the finish? I know it doesn't matter because you seal the thing head to toe in armor anyways but I'd like to take some photos with the assembled frame since it looks so nice.

My main thing is that the vast majority of entries in the past have been HG-sized builds, and I imagine it's gonna stay that way going forward. A plastic spoon from top to bottom goes up to about the chest of your average HG, so unless you're cutting the spoon into bits the only thing I could see people using it as is either a weapon or a Freedom-style wing backpack.

However, I do like the idea of a theme designed around incorporating everyday objects. I get the thing with the spoon comes from testing paint on them, but I feel like there's potential if you include things like paperclips, pens, magnets, straws, and other cheap things.

I don't think so, anon. Decoction action figures so far are 30cm tall while Steel Haze is only 27cm tall. Even Bandai's shrunken ACs are almost as tall as Koto's Aaliyah, they are supposed to be much bigger than Gen 4 AC if Koto really wanted the new kits to be on the same scale as Decoction Models.

Depends. Turn X is a fairly old kit, plus second-hand means it should rightly lose some value. Depending on if the MSRP on the reprint gets jacked way the fuck up due to tariffs, I'm willing to pay what you paid for it, adjusted for inflation, and the shipping cost.

Of course, I could also just wait for a 20% off holiday sale at USAGS and pre-order it for cheaper. I'm in no major hurry to get one, particularly since my backlog is so goddamned huge, so my pre-order getting delayed means nothing to me.
