She was basically a former Enclave unit captain, lost her wings and hoof during a battle then her missing hoof replaced with a robotic prosthetic. She also had a bounty on her head by the NCR. So, on a few occasions the party had to deal with random bounty hunter encounters.

I guess can be called a sinister prophetic name. The party just called her "Captain" in public and Blitzy only when they had downtime.

During storming the Cathedral when she met the mad doc and got analyzed.
>There are five stages of Impelled Metamorphosis development in a viable subject. The first three levels are well documented in my research journals, the most significant being incremental changes to the subject’s relationship to and tolerance of radiation.
>Radiation-induced regeneration, even to the point of regrowing limbs, begins at the first stage and radically improves in the second.
>When the subject reaches the third stage of Impelled Metamorphosis development, the subject’s body actually becomes stronger and faster in the presence of radiation, similar to the “glowing ghoul” and a precursor to the “super alicorn” phenomenon. The subject’s healing becomes so advanced that the natural aging process is all but halted.
>...
>First, it has proven virtually impossible to expose a pony to enough I.M.P to bring them to the third stage without crossing the threshold into the fourth. The few examples of successfully stable third-stage subjects have all been in the wild under unrepeatable circumstances. Which is too fucking bad, since stable stage threes have capabilities that give Doc Slaughter’s vaunted “enhancements” a run for their bits.
>that the natural aging process is all but halted
It's highly implied that Pip is third stage, not second.
Anonymous No.42690276 [Report]
>>42690242
P.S. And even if she is second stage, then that with regeneration just means that she will live for several centuries rather than "until killed", as long as she drinks some aqua cura once in a while - in practical terms that's exactly the same, as all the boo-hooing about the injuries and needing the pod is completely negated anyway. Even with the most charitable interpretation about the injuries that would be "completely normal lifespan due to injuries and IMP cancelling each other".

Finished Book 2 of Project Horizons. The story was thoroughly spoiled for me at this point, but it still hurt to read.

Also the people who say stop reading at Chapter 33 are fucking idiots. Blackjack just fucking dies without completing any real character arc or getting answers to the whole EC-1101/Hoofington plotline. I maintain that if you wanna read Horizons, either stop at Chapter 25 and imagine your own ending, or keep going at least until Book 4.

I consider Pink Eyes, Murky Number Seven, and Heroes (though I need to finish reading it) to be compatible with Littlepip's story.

Project Horizons is like the Fortnite of FOE stories. I'm glad it exists, but only because it distracts the preteens and weebs from bothering the rest of us. The first 20 something chapters are pretty good and I could see a version of Blackjack existing in the canon universe, but not all the anime inspired crap after that. I stopped reading after chapter 30.
Plus I'm not the biggest fan of constant grape and mutilations.

Murky Number Seven is the only story of the big five that's held my interest until the end. Heroes and Pink Eyes were so awkwardly written that I dropped them rather fast.

The original FoE has awful characters exploring an interesting world. Whereas Project Horizons has great characters exploring an awful world. The former I dropped halfway through because I was so annoyed by Pip's internal dialogue and actions. The latter has held my interest so far, even if the setting is bleak and cruel, because the characters and certain scenes are just that good.

I'm not trying to take away the enjoyment from anyone. And Somber has some great character writing at points (which he ruins with pointless grape and suffering scenes). But it goes full cyberpunk weeb and loses the feeling of Fallout pretty quickly. Somber's world building reminds me of Lost, all smoke and no substance until it insists it's deep and meaningful. And I never read past chapter 30.

>>42694033
Her talent is some mystical super being that will never let her lose as long as she suffers for it later. You do get how dumb that sounds right? Not even the show had the balls to do something like that and it put their cutie marks on mystical crystal tree. The closest you can get is the CMC sharing a talent for helping others find their talent (which is also kinda dumb, but toy sales I guess).

Pink Eyes is non-standard. I'll give you that.
I need to finish Heroes, but I think its great so far.

I'd argue that "Deconstructing the idea of self-destructive altruism" is PH's real big problem. Blackjack is a walking red flag, and her friends realize that at MULTIPLE TIMES yet they always give up and let her wander off to go get mentally broken all over again rather than just forcing her to sit down and actually work on her issues. Glory was right, Blackjack needed a damn LEASH and they should have just tied her down instead of making her Team Leader all the time. The punchline of her special talent forcing her to be this way was the peak of the fic's bullshit to try and desperately justify the godawful "BJ is immortal now and will outlive the universe" ending.

Blackjack is a funny and endearing character, who's genuinely trying to do the right thing and help people. The setting just repeatedly contrives to fuck her and her friends over. She's "self destructive" because she keeps throwing herself in harms way to protect others, even when it gets her shot up.

Then she goes and gets all sad and angsty because ponies end up dying anyways. Which is the annoying part, you can't personally save everyone.

Her special talent is playing cards but I guess later on in the fic it gets contorted into this shit >>42696931

Her Talent is "Victory At A Cost", she's guaranteed to win but it will always be at the expense of at least one other person dying. It's overall Somber's excuse of saying that she isn't allowed to have any friends or family or even a happy afterlife cause her talent is quite literally being unkillable at the cost of everyone she cares about.

Also yea she's a complete self damning alcholic, perma horny, overpowered, angsty red and black oc, but what people like is she's also self aware about her flaws and desperately tries to self improve even though her own author just tries to throw every single road block to prevent her from growing out of her edgy phase. I think a lot of anons mainly relate to the core theme of her just trying to trek through life despite the never ending rain of absolute shit that is her daily life.

So Murky does a much better job that PH because it doesn't raise the stakes above the original. It keeps them local and personal (for the most part).

A big problem in fiction (Marvel movies and the Dresden Files are good examples) is constantly trying to raise the stakes. Previous entry you saved the neighborhood? Now its the city, then the country, then world, then universe, then multiverse. But the problem with that is, you can't really care about the nebulous concept of the world or above. If you don't care about the people being saved, the stakes don't matter.

That's one thing I don't think Somber understood. How Kkat merged the worlds of MLP:FIM and Fallout.

Bad things can happen in MLP, but the evil doesn't win in the end because friendship.

In Fallout bad things always happen and evil can totally win. Unless you have more guns than evil.

In FOE the bad things have already happened and evil is winning because everyone forgot about friendship. But with friendship (and enough guns) good can and does win.

In PH, Somber acted like only through constant suffering can you beat evil. To the point of torture porn. And even if you win, friendship only got you so far and probably killed your friends.

Yeah I've always argued that if Somber had just ended with Blackjack dying after killing the Eater then at least it'd be a tragic yet hopeful ending. But then he had to ruin it all with the stupid fucking "Blackjack becomes immortal and becomes Pip's sloppy seconds (because of course PIP also has to lose all her friends and not see em with Ponk and Puppy in Pone Heaven) is all the embodiment of Somber falling for the trap of trying to Out Grimdark all the other fics rather than to give his own characters even a scrap of a bone after going so hard with them.

Also yeah Murky is the better fic plot wise, cause Somber went way too far trying to turn his fic into a brick sized JRPG plot, while Murky just stuck with being a low stakes personal FoE plot and completely nailed it. Both still have some of the best OC casts in the fandom though.

Murky's quest was fun to read but it only works out because of circumstance. That's why Protege needed more screen time and a better ending.

Although it's the only fic which does its villains right by depicting them as unrepentant bastards who you want to see lose. So many other stories make their villains sympathetic or attractive or tragic and then I feel conflicted when the main character starts winning

So, fic ain't fully done, mostly concept ideas. But the story gonna involve my girl Blitzhoof. The idea I had is that the story kinda takes place after the Enclaves fall by Lil'Pip, but Blitz gets a radio transmission about remaining Enclave forces wanting to regroup in a facility located south, so she starts going there. Companion wise, this is still in the works, but thinking of having a zeeb or earth pony with her. It's in the planning stages, had the idea years ago and just recently started to practice writing again. Been working on a few other projects to get into practice before trying a FOE story proper.

It's a one shot set 20 years before the main story that can fit into a bigger story if I get ambitious.

MC is Pressure Point, earth pony stallion, bigger than average, but smaller than Big Mac. guide/guard for hire in Everfreeside near the Strip of New Pegas.
Three odd things about him:
First- He's always clean, spends most of his caps on baths and old world mane/hair care products. This helps him in charming mares, though it's not the reason he's obsessed with grooming.
Second- The armor stays on at all times and covers his cutie marks. He won't show them to anypony. He's touchy about it.
Third- He cannot hit the broad side of a barn. He's a hoof-to-hoof fighter with the perks and a salvaged pipbuck to back it up. He carries a shotgun, though mostly for looks.

Companion- (at least for the one shot story)
Heypenny, unicorn mare from Tenpony. Daughter of Day Trader, a major caravan owner. She's good at business, but believes in heroes due to a certain DJ. She's near the Strip because her caravan got ambushed and her guards are all dead or wounded and she has a business meeting she needs to attend.

The one shot covers Pressure trying to convince a large family of settlers to hire him and getting turned down due to a larger crew with more guns nearby. Heypenny overhears the pitch and picks him because he looks presentable.

The bad guys are some raiders that Pressure has an agreement to bribe for safe passage, but the dilemma comes in that the guard crew ditched the family and Heypenny wants Pressure to save them. I won't spoil the ending, but Pressure Point doesn't believe in heroes. Just caps and dead ponies who didn't know better. But maybe that's enough sometimes.

Wooo let's go Stubby! I'm already a fan of Blitzhoof, so I'd love to read about her. I like your plot hook of trying to get together with Enclave Remnants.

I intend for Pressure Point to be in his 40s post-Little Pip, so the one shot is a story from his youth that he's telling to others in a bar, which would include Blitzy. Yeah, that means he obviously won't die in the one shot, but it's his memoir so he'd have to be alive to tell it.
Anonymous No.42719023 [Report]

Unironically very solid fic idea, we don't get many stories after the day of sunshine and rainbows, a trio of MCs is somewhat refreshing to see, and do love the idea of a main villain that already has a pre established relationship with the MC. I do have one big question for Blitzhoof is she a Dashite or is she like the Enclave remnant soldiers we see in New Vegas where she just kinda decided to hang up the uniform/Power armor and if so why?
Anonymous No.42719083 [Report]
>>42719071
Actually, she ain't a Dashite. She is still Enclave soldier akin like in New Vegas. Only she still kinda wears her old uniform, just has removed the insignias on the Enclave. Her reason why she still wears it can be considered somewhat selfish. Enclave will fade away with time and will be forgotten, only seen as a very bad dream. Her wearing the uniform is kinda indication to herself that she's still stuck in this dream and only upon finishing her planned deed will she be allowed to wake up finally.

I finally bit the bullet a while ago and ordered the MoI FO:E print and have been quite happy with my purchase so far. I'm now starting to mull over the thought of getting MN7. I'm still a bit hesitant though - unlike my copy of FO:E which splits around 600k words over four nicely decorated volumes that feel pretty good to read in bed, the only printed version of MN7 I'm aware of crams over a million words into a single volume (and also looks a bit plain in comparison, though that's probably a matter of taste). I'm worried it won't actually be very nice to read, too heavy to hold comfortably, pages so thin you can see the words of the page behind and you need to be really gentle to avoid tearing them, etc - and I'm also a bit wary about durability, I remember owning two hardback copies of the longest harry potter book as a kid and they both fell apart under their own weight over time, and MN7 is longer than that entire series let alone a single book. It's also really expensive - I came across fuzzy's post announcing the original print run and it was priced then at $70, but the one I'm seeing now is $180 (not even including shipping) - what on earth caused the price to go up by over 150%?

Does anyone own one of these? I'm fond of MN7, it's definitely something I'd like to have a physical copy of - but I wouldn't just be burning well over $200 for a gigantic paperweight, I'd want to be able to enjoy reading it without it falling apart or giving me back pain. I know Zemming shows up around here from time to time - if you're reading this Zemming, sorry if it sounds like I'm dumping on your hard work, I'm just cautious about splashing out so much on this sort of thing.

Okay, let me try to gather my scattered thoughts on it while waiting for something. I don't have my plan document on me right now, but that's mostly outdated by now anyways since I've changed and refined a lot of things while focusing on my ongoing fic.

The main plot driver of the story is a new faction fun the Zebra lands. About a generation back, the two tribes on the isle of Maregascar achieved a diplomatic victory in their war through political marriage. Though not perfect, the peace turned into an alliance and the kingdom of United Tribes was born. As an island nation, it was protected from enemies and could develop agriculture, crafts, and sciences. By the start of the story they've run out of space on the island and send expeditions and colonizers to all shores. One such party lands in northwestern Equestria to found Landfall Village, both to claim more arable land and to search for the great sage Zecora.

Enter our main character, Stream Song, a tribal Kirin. He's wandering the Wasteland to find the Queen of Sun and Rain, as ordered by the tribal elder after a prophetic dream everyone in three village saw. He's a little on the quiet side, a marksman of some renown, and fucking hates ponies, especially unicorns, after getting betrayed and sold to slavery by the merchant whose caravan he was hired to guard.

Our second character is Nia, a zebra shaman and the matriarch of Landfall Village. She is searching for any sign of Zecora to recover the lost knowledge of old. She can be a bit cold and distant and places the needs of the many before the needs of the few up to even sacrificing a few to save many. But, she is also wise beyond her years and quick to learn - including about friendship after spending most her life so far getting groomed to lead by her mother.

Third one of the four is Star Seeker. She is a crystal pony pegasus from the Empire's one "stable", Plan B that opened not that long ago and, luckily, ran into the Zebra colonists first. She is naive, friendly, talkative, and doesn't give others enough personal space. She also likes to drink which makes her even worse. She's obsessed with the sky and stars, despite having never seen any.

Finally, we have a yet unnamed bat pony stallion. He's gay. Like, very gay. And fruity. He's there to hit on Stream but also have enough sense in him to not go too far with it. Apart that, he's a reliable and capable companion. He still needs a lot of work and may end up getting dropped entirely.

The story is about the group exploring the Crystal Empire, running into fragments of its past, and seeing how the Empire and Equestria ended up falling away from over another towards the end due to Equestria stooping too low during the war. We get a few glimpses of the past through the eyes of Sunburst, the head of research and one of Cadence's council.
A second plotline, involves bringing agriculture back to Equestria. The Enclave doesn't take too kindly to the Zebra rain dances.

I think you should drop the bat pony, I can't imagine him being anything but bad.

I'm also not sure the crystal empire will make for a very good setting, it was one of the most bland and shitty parts of the show, just "what if we took normal equestria but took away any trace of personality and made everything out of toyetic translucent plastic". Not that it would be impossible to create something good but it'd be an uphill battle - you'd have to walk the line between coming up with a vastly more interesting crystal empire than the one depicted in the show while also not being so detached from the original that it's not actually the crystal empire any more. Maybe you could place starlight glimmer there? None of the stories I'm familiar with ever made use of her and I think she's one of the characters with the most potential for an interesting wartime and/or post-apocalyptic story, you could say she relocated there to be with sunburst and develop something interesting revolving around whatever she got up to.

Why has your pegasus never seen the sky and stars, now that she's out of the stable? Can she not just fly up there and take a look?

>get permission from the GM to include some facets of FoE's setting like the Enclave having weather control systems block the sky above the region and stuff since we're chillin' all the way in New Pegasus
>makes an interesting (to me) dynamic where my dude never even saw the sky until he was in his mid 20s
>has become semi-obsessed with Luna since the first thing he saw of the sky was the full moon, and because he views her as a kind of protector of the dead due to stories told to him by his mother
>on bad/awkward terms with both sides of Lyons' BoS/Outcasts split so he's been wandering the wastes five years trying to link up with another chapter
I basically want to write his biography up to the point he gets to New Pegasus and links up with the party, but the fact that the setting is a weird midpoint between games and fic, and the fact that the game he was for is on indefinite hiatus means it's literally just a story for myself which makes dedicating time to it feel like a waste, especially since I'm just generally busy. There's also the small issue that I only have a very vague idea what his march through the Wasteland proper would even look like. Most of the ideas I have for him are early life/life in Canterlot. Between him seeing the moon and getting to New Pegasus is a big question mark.

Also, I'm just now realizing I have no idea how to write melee weapon combat for an earth pony in power armor since they have a helmet... I probably need to brush through the OG again to see if I'm forgetting something.

It's a detective story/political thriller set a few years after the OG fic. Setting is a new port/farming town near Baltimare, established by some stable ponies and refugees from Fillydelphia and Friendship City. The protagonist is a young detective for the town's small police force who investigates a dead body, trips over some memory orbs and ends up uncovering a plot that threatens the security and leadership of the town.

Early on he gets paired with a grumpy ex-enclave mare, and the two learn to work together as they solve the mystery.

Like I said, mostly because I think the Sledge is cool and it's a fluffy piece of Brotherhood tech.

More concretely, I came up with a formative bit in his Steel Ranger training ages ago when he was still slated for being a Scribe that involved him picking one up and going to town on an ambush after an IED the size of a small car cut his squad lead in half. I like the imagery of him picking up his fallen superior's weapon and charging. It feels more 'knightly' than just running up and bucking someone's jaw off.

You're right and obviously this can be retooled, but I'll have to dig around and find some way to get the vibe right.

Pretty cool to see a fic set within the Crystal Empire and its extremely refreshing to see a Kirin MC I actually don't think I've seen a Kirin MC desu, I love the cast you have going on so far and yeah the Bat pony needs to be reworked or dropped, because it does need to be stated that people will be expecting either him or the story itself going out of its way to explore what the fuck the Bat ponies were and what were they doing during the war and a whole long ass lore dump of your take on them. if you do drop him entirely either turn him into a side character if you want to salvage the character at least, and I personally suggest that if you drop him you should replace him with either a ghoul of some kind, because one Ghouls are really cool and many stories don't make them MCs which is pretty sad to see ngl or you could do something like a Steel Ranger from the local chapter, a sentient robot/cyborg or a member of a unique faction or a minor race like a Yak, a Deer or hell a Raindeer, just spit spalling ideas for you.

So, after a bottle of hard apple cider. I kinda got the idea for an opening prologue to my fic. It's gonna be a tad simple and somewhat action based. Basically the idea is gonna be like this: A little colt is running through the desert and accidentally stumbles upon Blitz's slumped over body, as he's about to run away Blitz calls to him asking for water. After drinking it, the colt explains how bounter hunters chase after him and his mother, so Blitz asks where they are. They find the mother, who is surrounded by four bounty hunters. Upon seeing Blitz, one of 'em recognizes her Enclave uniform, as they begin to mock her and saying how the Enclave was destroyed and they're just murderours. Blitz scoffs at this, a gun fight then breaks out. After which the surviving bounty hunter recognizes who Blitz is, which freaks out the colt and his mother. Blitz then executes the bounty hunter, then looks at the kid and says how this was her repayment for the water before departing away, leaving the two stunned.

If you don't mind me rambling more about the overall idea, the core of Valiant Rome's character (the main guy) is that he is, eventually, supposed to evolve into the platonic ideal of a chivalric knight. Or at least a Fallout-y version of one.
>born a slave in the deepest, darkest pit that is Fillydelphia
>raised on embellished heroic stories of his late father and religious parables of Celestia, Luna, and the Elements by his mother, which form a lot of his early moral core
>Steel Rangers bust in to Filly and shoot anything that looks at them sideways, adopt a couple dozen kids that look promising and skedaddle
>Rome loses his mother in the transition but the dramatic improvement in his lot in life is hard to ignore. Becomes a dyed-in-the-wool Ranger very quickly even as a colt, takes the Codex's lessons very seriously and dives headlong into historical and technological study
>war against Canterlot super mutants begins
>Rome is all-in at first, but the mounting casualties tell more and more over time as Rome loses ponies he considers family and friends, and eventually his childhood sweetheart
>casualties get so bad that Rome is retracked from Scribe to Knight after showing combat and possible leadership aptitude in a mission gone bad
>in these years he comes progressively more and more jaded. He rises to the rank of Knight Sargent and inherits command of a squad; he's competent but losses continue to mount and they weigh on him more and more. Eventually only one other Filly kid is left, and Lions opens the chapter to wastelander recruitment to bolster numbers
>Rome believes in the mission but has slowly become appalled by Lions' methods and his willingness to spend soldiers like ammo. When the Outcast split happens he's talked into leaving by one of his few remaining social links, an ex he's still on good terms with
>too much a damn hero to give up totally on 'fixing' Canterlot completely which leads to a lot of friction between him and the rest of the Outcasts.
>eventually this leads to him getting a 'get lost' assignment of traveling west and contacting the Elder Council to do something about Lions. Which *is* important but getting him out of leadership's hair is definitely a bonus
>suits him up in their last set of T-51b, his ex's lucky laser rifle, some supplies to get him running, and sends him out into the wastes
>adventure????
The central personal conflict would be Rome's pragmatism competing with his heroic ideals and loyalty to the order. Not really sure what he'd actually get wrapped up in out in the wilderness though.

>Nightseer kind of related.
Anonymous No.42728588 [Report]
>>42728029
Yeah... with some meta knowledge it kind of winds up looking like Rome welches. But if you assume the Steel Rangers pull exactly two dozen kids out of Filly and two are left by the time he gives it up (in Fallout 3 it's actually just one, Kodiak) to seek another solution then that's a 91% attrition rate which is absolutely hellacious, especially for a group as insular as the Rangers. And we also know the outside recruits suffer high casualties themselves so there's not even much solace for Rome in trying to herd outsiders into not getting their asses killed because they inevitably fail in the endeavor.

I don't think it's unreasonable for Rome to come to the wrong conclusion for what are essentially the right reasons. Lions fighting it out in a never-ending urban brawl is just straight up a misuse of his resources, especially since he doesn't make any obvious strategic gains from it. The fact that he would have won the grind doesn't ameliorate his missteps as commander.

Weird enough, in the games the Outcasts kind of do what Lyons really ought to be doing in the first place; using the endurance granted by PA to do long-ranging patrols outside the city and bolstering themselves with all the robots they can get their hands on.

>>42723469
His whole talent revolves around taking stuff apart and reassembling it, so suit mods are definitely on the table. I do like the gunhoof idea (I like the powerhoof too but that might be more complicated to integrate on the road). I'm also entertaining the thought of him integrating a 10mm into the side of his helmet, because nothing says 'fuck off' by being able to kill with a glare.

I REALLY like this one... but it doesn't fit with the version of Manehattan I'm running. Manehattan had an entire additional cloud city built on top of it in my AU that mostly protected the middle layer from being leveled by megaspells.

I think I might adapt this if the party wanders into the area where the remains of the cloud layer fell though. Have the spirits show up as voids/shadows in the fog or something similar. They could be remnants from all the pegasi who got vaporized at once. It's a very fluffy idea and I'm glad you suggested it.

I really should've thought of gators. Not only are they in the fic but sewer gators are a classic NYC meme. Definitely going on the list.

>rats
Party is a little past the point large rats would be meaningfully dangerous... Or they will be soon. I guess they could be disease vectors. If nothing else it would be a good idea to diversify my low level chaff once they get away from the coastal areas so I'll think about it.

>Why has your pegasus never seen the sky and stars, now that she's out of the stable? Can she not just fly up there and take a look?
Nope. She just isn't a good enough flyer to get all the way up there. There was very little space to practice underground so while she can fly, her flight muscles never grew like they would in the pegasi we know of. Nothing that can't be fixed, but this is like a month after Plan B opens so she hasn't had enough practice and exercise yet. Plus she's been told she really shouldn't since she'll get shot up there.

On another note, I think I'll rework the bat pony into a pegasus and make him a minor villain in the form of an Enclave captain or other low ranking leader our group runs into a couple of times.

Fair enough, those are good reasons. Tell me a bit more about Plan B, I'm increasingly curious about it. Who built it, and sheltered in it, and why was stable-tec not involved? (I get that the CE had drifted apart from Equestria, but I can't see that mattering to the CMC) What was it like compared to the stables? Was your pegasus a rare accident of birth or did they have an equal share of pegasi down there, and if the latter did the stable have any interesting adaptations to accommodate them or take advantage of their abilities? You said it was lucky that they ran into the Zebra colonists first - how did that play out? I wouldn't have expected that to be a happy encounter, if the vault opens and the first thing they find is a group of the zebras that bombed them, here to claim and settle their land (which I'm pretty sure is the farthest from the zebra homelands of anywhere in pony territory, by most interpretations of the setting's geography), surely they'd assume they were an invading army fighting the same old war? If that does play out peacefully I think you should take the time to have them navigate it properly, it'd be a mistake just to handwave it and pretend the stable dwellers wouldn't be at all bothered to emerge and find a bunch of zebras settling their land.

>I'll rework the bat pony into a pegasus and make him a minor villain
Good plan. Only advice I'd give, just in case, is don't get tempted by the idea of him being "a villain, but a cool one that I'm sure everyone will like and maybe we'll redeem later!" (Psychoshy, for example) - from the brief sketch you gave he'd be best used as a nuisance that the party (and vicariously, the readers) take considerable satisfaction from eventually getting rid of permanently. Just let him show up, be obnoxious, and be cathartic to kill and then forget about.

Haven't you read the story? It's Littlepip's autobiography. Kkat is just Littlepip's pen name or ghostwriter. The story was sent back in time using magic to maybe prevent the war, but ended up in the human world instead.

In my unconfirmed (and with zero research done) head canon Kkat is a female, but I've heard others say male and they probably have some evidence. My recommendation is not to worry about it.

Chapter 43. I think this is the first chapter of Project Horizons that I just didn't like. It felt like Blackjack's suffer bar maxed out so the setting had to give her some rest and therapy to cope so she could suffer more. Coping isn't character development IMO. Also that 'star maiden' zebra thing was namedropped, I can feel all the late-chapter BS starting to get established.

I like Blackjack because she's a victim of circumstance. She's just a regular pony living her shitty life in 99 when happenstance forces her to leave with every insane Wasteland villain in pursuit. Much unlike Littlepip, who wandered out on her own free will and promptly began judging and murdering everypony just because she could.

I wish Project Horizons had been about how BJ can't just ditch EC-1101; the Wasteland wants her blood and her PipBuck, and it'll follow her if she hides or flees, killing innocents along the way. Then her arc could be about accepting her quest and gearing up to survive it with her friends. None of this 'chosen one fated to win' bullshit.
Anonymous No.42746577 [Report] >>42747264

Littlepip didn't exactly leave of her own free will. yeah she could have stayed, but she'd have gone from social outcast to near pariah in the Stable. Velvet likes to claim she looks at the consequences of actions, but she really screwed Pip over. And no one else was willing to be the voice and hammer of morality in the wasteland. Leaving evil be does not make you good. It makes you a sheep that's been told to ignore evil. No offense to sheep.

But yeah poor Blackjack got shafted (pun intended), the suffering fetish Somber has is not character development, hell it's not even healthy for the writer. In the end, BJ got a weeb destiny thrust upon her and that's sad.

Littlepip's adventure was more self-directed (when her friends weren't manipulating her). There wasn't a Deus or Sanguine or Cogitum after her most of the time.

Making PH about how to survive an impossible quest, rather than an anime suffer party, would also fix how inconsistent Blackjack's character can be.
>Admits she's not smart or experienced
>Insists on figuring out EC-1101 herself
>Mopes about how she wants a quiet life instead
>Chooses to lead and kamikaze her party into danger
>Pretty good at shooting only in self-defense or when justified
>Suicidally miserable over every pony she kills

I guess this is what you get when a manic depressive writes your protagonist.

Plan B, the Empire's only "stable".

Built by CrysCon, it is pretty much a carbon copy of a stable. Stable-Tec was forbidden from constructing stables outside Equestrian borders, but Scootaloo happened to lose a copy of plans on one of her visits to the Empire and her friends there, Sunburst and Starlight.
It was never officially finished as the fateful day dawned as it was undergoing final tests. As such, the original inhabitants were the construction crews and engineers who built and designed it and were supposed to be sealed in there for just a week for a full systems test. It wasn't an even split, but it did include all three races; the Empire wasn't nearly as internally split as Equestria was anyways.

As for the first encounter after the door was open?
Well, the newly emerged crystal ponies, unfamiliar with the terrain and hazards, weren't the ones initiating contact. They were not happy to find a zebra matriarch marching into their fledgling village, but they also weren't familiar enough with the Wasteland to shoot before asking. There may have been some gunboat diplomacy involved in the deal as the Overmare realized their security who barely knew how to use their standard issue 10mm's were no match to the armed to the teeth and battle hardened zebras. But, the deal struck was not at all unfair. Zebras provide protection, spare parts, and training while crystal ponies give fresh produce and labor in return. While tensions still exist, it has mostly worked so far and a few like Star Seeker have even decided to move to the zebra village.

How did they deal with food etc? Were they already equipped with everything they needed for the next couple hundred years, minus the actual inhabitants? Did the construction team just happen to have a reasonably even gender split?

>gunboat diplomacy involved in the deal
>tensions still exist
Alright - in that case I'd just make sure those tensions are felt, there'll probably be some among the ponies who really object to the arrangement and aren't smart enough to appreciate there's no real alternative to it. Maybe try to have something happen with one of them at some point.

He's the guy I ramble about in this post: >>42727489

If you want exploits from the game he's from... I don't have a lot. I built Rome pretty incorrectly due to some misunderstandings I had about the system going in and by the time I reworked him the game had to go on hold. I did blow up a gryphon mercenary by repeatedly venting my suit's reactor at him, which was funny but not reproducible. His main contribution in fights was that he could be such a mean looking bastard that it conferred damage an Intimidation bonuses to people around him, which I thought fit with the angry as fuck former Sargent.

Most of the fun in playing him was all RP stuff.
>on his way into Caliponia he got buried alive in a rock slide and only survived because his pet eyebot tracked down a friendly bat pony, Drill Bit, who would eventually become his fiance
>slowly became sort of a mentor character to the tribal gryphon chemhead, who is easily the one he's opened up to the most about his background other than his future wife
>once got his bell rung so hard by a super mutant ambush he fell back in time eight years and started trying to find his old squadmates. His only real slip-up on letting out his faction affiliation to date, and apparently only the gryphon caught it (Drill Bit already knew by this point and helped him cover).
>constantly warring with himself over playing the part of a mercenary and pursuing leads on what's happening with the local chapter
>hid his affiliations well enough he wound up getting drafted by The Mouse (House) to mount an expedition to Big MT and stop the NER from getting their hooves on its stuff, also talked the party into holding the best stuff out of Mouse's hooves
>the one singular prude in the party, which has been kinda funny
Lots of fun drama with the gryphon character since he's the only one that doesn't treat her like the kid sister of the group. They do beers and he tells her she's sharp but kind of a dumbass or does anecdotes and life advice. They complain about their girlfriends (who are both in the party) to each other. Lots of fun chemistry with them, especially since they're effectively sharing frontliner duty.

Rome may or may not be plotting to completely overthrow Mouse in the longterm, although for now he's got his plate full trying to actually FIND the local chapter, keeping the NER from hunting them down, getting to Big MT, and cracking down on what may be The Master 2.0 brewing up on Black Mountain.

And he's gotta figure out how to introduce his technophile girlfriend to the family.

... he is a very busy pony.

Modern soldiers routinely carry 84mm rifles. The answer is the cannon can be whatever caliber you want if you make the projectile lighter or slower (and especially slower). If you're not worried about velocity at range, you can lob quite the hunk of explosives over a wall.

I did introduce the raider virus to the party. An all-pegasus gang in the city is infected with a specific strain of it and sent one of their 'aspirants' against the party as a test. The diamond dog took him alive and managed to rock-magic it out of his system (since he was still early stages), although he's still a bit fucked up.

In character they don't really know whats up, but the player pretty correctly guessed he was infected with rabies when I described the symptoms. I think other players are under the impression he was fucked up on bathtub psycho.

Besides that the party's current home base is about to be attacked (or is currently under attack I guess), and they're slated for their last 'intro' mission before I let them loose on the city proper. So that's exciting.

Not so much anti-sex as much as strictly vanilla by choice. A lot of Rome's exposure to overt sexuality was from abuse he witnessed as a slave or raiders getting their kicks, so if it was anything kinkier than two married ponies making tender love to each other he had a pretty strong aversion to it. Also he's BoS/Steel Ranger so you can imagine he was just generically reserved.

Same deal for drugs. He kept some combat stuff on his person for emergencies but he was always harping on the gryphon for being too Gung ho about popping them (and she did start using Psycho recreationally although he never found that out IC).

Compared to most of the other party members he was practically a nun.
>Bat pony came from a vault with no family units so most relationships were more or less open; Rome had to argue her into an exclusive relationship
>turbo nympho unicorn who slept with just about everything that moved - was probably a futa. Romantic partner of the gryphon girl
>pegasus with great stonking tits who hated people in general but was also a slut.
>'baby' dragon shortstack that was the player's excuse to say 'yes' to everything. Did all the drugs, was probably fucking the Tops talent scout, and joined the White Horshoe Society under the party's noses
Ironically the gryphon tribal sorta had the same relationship expectations as Rome so she had a lot of trouble putting up with her girlfriend being a slut. In their case she found a set of friendship/empathy bracelets that helped prove the unicorn really did love her and wasn't just stringing her along, so she found a way to put up with it after a couple of hard conversations.

One background detail that never came up but I thought was funny: Rome has the entire Zebra Sutra memorized cover to cover due to his time spent cataloging books during Scribe training. Somehow it wound up in his cohort's batch and it turned into a huge bet. Rome's talent happens to give him really excellent memorization skills.

Yeah, it was unnecessary to add a raider disease. There's really no need to give an excuse for being a piece of crap raider.

There are basically 3 types of raiders:

You've got the criminal types, think not much worse than old school gangsters. They'll kill, but only to send a message. Too much killing is bad for business.

Then you've got the street gang types, they'll kill and enjoy it, but communication isn't impossible. They're more likely to shoot you in the face though.

And then you've got the insane ones. The decorate with corpses types, they're not interested in anything but pain, pleasure, and whatever their brand of crazy is.

You've also got a lot of gray areas, like Fiends in New Vegas, they're the 3rd type, but they can restrain themselves to trade for drugs.

And you've also got some groups, like the BoS who at times are little more than raiders with good tech. Some mercs are little better than raiders, like the Gunners.

How do you guys handle death in your stories/games?

As a GM I tend to only punish players if they're being stupid or its a boss fight. And the bad guy doesn't go after downed players, they've got active targets to focus on.

As for stories, I try not to create characters just for them to die. I have a beginning and a ending planned. How the characters get from A to B is more played out in my head. I try to have the characters go where they will, rather than force them down a path. So I have issues killing them off.

What was worse with Sandy is that she was so apathetic she routinely tried to dodge plot hooks, which led to plenty in-character friction on its own. I was not upset when that player had to bow our for IRL stuff.

To his credit, he did eventually come back with a unicorn who was way less abrasive. Had a fun interaction between her and Rome because she was an empath and while Rome keeps a great poker face behind that he's a huge mess, so he wound up accidentally bombarding her with all his very loud subsurface feels while they were running an errand for the Followers once.

>>42763541
I think it works in FoE to specifically explain the Fallout 3 style madmen that seem to be omnipresent in the Wasteland. There's a really sticky question of 'where the fuck do these people even come from?' and having the Enclave seeding isolated groups with something that turns them berserk is a surprisingly tidy explanation.

Not that banditry doesn't happen but the specific kind you see in the prototypical Fallout raider burns itself out very quickly. 200 years after the megaspells you'd be way more likely to see fueds like the Hatfields and McCoys than roving bands of rabid murder mare's.

New Vegas does it pretty well; the Mojave is in a state of upheaval since the NCR are moving in and forcing smaller bands out of their territory while the Legion does the same, which bottles all the refugees and survivalist bands up in the no-man's-land between them.

FO4 sorta tried to do this by making the setting a collapsed/sabotaged state but it fumbled it in the final step by still having the 'raiders' all effectively be one generic faction without goals, or having them fight over weird objectives like a 200 year old brewery.

Also the Fallout TV show trying to retcon the rich business people/Vault-Tec into starting the war is retarded. Mr. House didn't want the war, he wanted to run his business and go to space.

Some of the original creators have even come out and confirmed that no, that's all BS. That China launched first because the US was attacking the Chinese mainland.

The whole thing was rigged, mind you, but not by Vault-Tec. It was all done by the shadow government that became the Enclave. The writers are just being anti-capitalist commies sympathizers. ;-)

PS Show can't be canon anyway since there's no way that birthday party happened at 6am in California. The bombs hit the east coast after 9am and they had warning because Cali got nuked first.

The Outcasts were unlikely to show up in person at all. The game took place in New Pegasus, in a timeline where the Courier died in their shallow grave and Benny got the Chip, all that post is is background stuff I came up with for Rome over time.

There was some weird stuff shaping up with the Mojave BoS. They'd gone through with capturing Helios 1 and the NER had a bounty out on their suits. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to interact with them.

That ordeal would've been hairy for Rome. Drill Bit (his girlfriend) came from a vault where tech never really stopped developing so her people would've been a huge trove of info and tech. Rome falling in with an outsider would have been bad enough but I was expecting navigating that particular minefield to be a huge, if entertaining mess.

Drill Bit was from a vault experiment that went a bit too well. The population was almost entirely bat ponies and diamond dogs so they were actually really well suited to coping with underground life, and over time they expanded the vault more and more. Eventually they actually found a dragon buried in their particular mountain who was responsible for a lot of early technological innovation and he helped them continue innovating/unfucking their culture (because the vault experiment also included fun stuff like completely dissolving the family unit).

In practice Drill Bit was a Deep Rock Galactic character. Her vault were running up against the setting equivalent of the NV tunnelers so she had a fair bit of experience doing underground combat engineering n' stuff.

She had been attached to a surface expedition as an engineering advisor prior to the game but they happened to pop up right in front of Sombra's Legion and got wiped. Drill Bit, as far as she knows, was the sole survivor and bumped into Rome while fleeing the encroaching Legion front. Part of the reason they got so close, since they both met each other at their respective lowest points and helped build the other back up.

I still don't like Blackjack's lack of a character arc, if that makes sense. She gets plenty of development in terms of processing and getting over trauma and all the bullshit she's faced. But other parts of her, like the masochistic morality and the drive to solve EC-1101, are just kind of asserted and haven't changed. Also BJ's stopped tripping over memory orbs and is now just having forced flashbacks every 20 minutes, which is lame. At least most of them aren't about fucking Goldenblood.

PH is really controversial. But personally, I liked it more than the original FOE.

I'm from the part of the community that dislikes PH. It has good stuff in it and Somber is great at writing chracters. But its one part suffering porn and one part weeb fantasy.

Plus Goldenblood goldenblows.

Psychoshy is pretty cool as a character design though.

Project Horizons would have been great if it leaned into Lovecraftian horror rather than an anime religion fantasy.
Zebras nuking Equestria because they had discovered the soul-devouring meteor underneath their city and were attempting to harness its power is fucking cool, and a better reason for the apocalypse than 'muh coal'.

Honestly, not half a bad idea. It could have started as a war over resources and then the Zebras learned about the shit Equestria has uncovered and went into full crazy mode since they believe the princess have become corrupted

I can't help it... I know that she.. Well... To a point, she's actually quite a well-written character... She just gets caught up in the authors' anime fetish...
