The barrel has always been a place that attracted the older generations. It’s not the logo change it’s the redesign of the dining rooms that will alienate their constituents. Unless they are making the calculation that those constituents are dying off. Then they need to do something different. Even with that reality i think the redesign sucks. The descendants of the original customers will not embrace the change. Cracker barrel has effectively just abandoned their niche and lowered themselves to competing with Denny’s. i don't like the new logo, but i also think that virtually any change would initially be annoying, as it is a matter of having no personal memories attached to the new logo, i.e. lack of nostalgia. the new logo is a simply an alien foreign object detached from anything relatable. it doesn't serve as a proxy for memories the way an 'old' logo does.
when you see a familiar logo you think of things, driving on a highway and seeing the sign, some kind of fun road trip, going to a cracker barrel with friends, etc. thus over time people will grow to like/accept the new logo as they form new memories as it repetitively exists in the background.

Cracker Barrel food saved me a time or two back in the day when at relative's places for holidays. Because those particular ones couldn't cook for shit. So CB was some decent comfort food to stay alive while on travel. It definitely beats fast food slop, but isn't gonna wow anyone or win awards. Their sourdough bread was pretty good.

Looks a lot like golden corral logo. That place is popular with old folks and i wouldn't be suprised if that's cracker barrels target demo too. Maybe they're trying to build associations. I won't pretend I went there often, I'd go to a local diner or take the budget option of waffle house most of the time, but when I did go it was 100% for the nostalgia, the little store and old fashioned toys and candy, and the rustic vibe. Modernizing it just removed choice. Bacon and eggs are simple food. Very similar no matter where you get it. Without identity there is only price and the small local places or something like waffle house will always be cheaper. Now I have no reason to ever return, ever.
