No, progress is not inevitable and it is not led by tech, it has to be allowed by the institutions of a society in it. India has more engineers and scientists than all of the West combined, yet they still defecate in the open and the greatest ambition of these people is leaving India, not making it a superpower.

Progress not only has not happened, people today are much materially poorer than they were in 2005. Nobody would choose having a smartphone over having a home. Thinking they were super advanced, Europe brought all of Africa and Asia into its continent, and now their people can't even leave their homes after 10 because they are afraid of getting stabbed.

Yes, this country is the CEO of natural selection. If you are smart, you won't get a Darwin Award. You need to constantly:

>you need at least two layers of redundancy for everything (always have a plan B), because brazilians are not stupid enough to have a work ethic to please dumbass bosses, so don't expect everything here to just work. As an example, since we can't trust people to know how to handle computers if they break, we always have printed out lists of scheduled flights that are booked to go, even if that is expensive

If you do this, you should be fine. It is a fun country in general as long as you don't go in with the expectation that it is fair. It is not. Our capital looks like it belongs in the Imperium of Man and our country is ruled like it. But as long as you don't fuck around with people in power (police, judges, criminals, politicians), it can be great.
