Of course using Linux has downsides.
If we focus on games, you will likely always be a second class citizen since the market share of Linux is (and will remain) far less than Windows.
There will be a learning curve and certain things will frustrate you.
Having said that, look at what Microsoft is doing to Windows.
Do you really want to be locked in to the Windows ecosystem?
A lot of people are going to be eating Microsoft's shit for decades because they refuse to change.
Windows 11 is already so shit and it's only going to get worse.
More spyware, more ads and more incompetent developers.
Meanwhile Linux is only getting better.
If we focus on gaming, Valve is putting their full weight behind Linux gaming.
Steamdeck has already boosted Linux users significantly.
Proton and DXVK just get better and better every release.
Hell, even NVIDIA is slowly getting better.

I'm not new to Linux but I am new to gaming on it (used to dual boot). I installed steam and the games I've tried just work. Experience will be better on AMD but even Nvidia is getting there these days.
My understanding is that you shouldn't try to install steamos on a desktop computer.
I've heard good things about EndeavourOS. I've never tried it myself but people say it just works. It's based on Arch linux (SteamOS is also based on Arch) and seems to be quite easy to use.
