It would have left him with only one Steelclad Knight instead of two at the end of the turn. Granted, I didn't know he had Olivia into Quickblader to follow up, so I'm essentially kicking myself for nothing and you can't predict the future, but it did push up his kill threshold. Assuming everything else played out the same and I used Serpents as removal, I would've been left with 2 life instead of being killed and I could've just attempted to have gone in with Odin or swing with Vuella+something else.

Serpents are more often than not better to remove threats or enabling your offense rather than just slapping them to face. Damage against Sword generally sticks, but Sword has a high volume of threats that you actually do want to use Serpents on.
