They will impose taxes on Europeans investing in American stocks or ETFs holding American stocks, which will have no impact whatsoever on Americans but shoot European citizens in the foot as they can no longer become wealthy by saving and investing.

I don't live in a third world country, I live in the EU
And our tax law clearly states that EU-domiciled, UCITS-compliant ETFs are tax free.
But during a recent dispute, a tax office employee decided that does not apply to ETFs that do not have a translated KID in our language. No ETFs comply with that.
Suddenly the tax rate went from 0% to 15% because some random tax office employee decided to set a precedent.

This was part of the reason for me coming back to this >>60531392

When I started saving up and investing I just put it into VOO
Then my salary increased and I put more and more into it, and it kept going up

Now I realized (with the help of ChatGPT of all things) that I made a mistake, because VOO is seriously tax disadvantaged in my case compared to an EU-domiciled, accumulating (no divvies) version that is UCITS compliant (e.g. VUAA UCITS) which is completely tax free on gains in my case.

I'm now conflicted if I should just pull the bandaid off and sell VOO, which has made a profit and will be a taxable event, so I can buy the proper version going forward.
I don't think I can avoid it. It's better long term.
