>It's not being boycotted, it's simply not being watched because its not a very good movie.
It's a great movie, but it's also a very American movie. The style harkens back to a silver age vibe and really leans into the camp of that era. Comic book superheroes weren't well-known outside the US at this time so these aesthetic choices probably don't land with an international audience. Additionally, the storytelling themes are sort of a critique of the contemporary cultural/political/social climate in the U.S. right now. A lot of Americans feel that everything and everyone has become too cynical and edgy for a country that's historically been more optimistic. Superman presents its title character as an ideal who accomplishes great feats and inspires others with his unwavering resolve to do good. It's not his strength or intelligence that makes him a hero, but his values.

If you accept the comic book goofiness, the movie actually has a really tight script. One example. I was originally confused why they were bothering to introduce an obscure character like Metamorpho just so he could create the kryptonite that imprisons Superman. But then when he changes sides and Superman is still weak because he's imprisoned in a pocket universe (which becomes this movie's San Andreas fault) with no yellow sun so Metamorpho creates "something like a sun" so Superman can recharge.

That's just good writing.

There's a lot of other stuff like Jimmy Olsen and the Daily Planet crew actually getting a relevant C-plot that has a lot of great journalism humor and feels like something out of Veep. Luthor's relationship with the Pentagon has nuance. They rebuff him at first and only go along with his plan once he has independently verified evidence that Superman poses a threat. Even the freaking dog is actually plot relevant. Think about how many movies Disney cranks out where the comedic side character has no significance to the story and simply exists to sell merchandise.

Also I like how Superman's vast might is emphasized not by the amount of destruction he can cause but the amount of destruction he can prevent. That's way more on-brand for the character.

I'm a white /fit/bro of Norwegian/Anglo descent who was raised in Wisconsin by loving Christian parents with strong values and moved to Chicago for my career. Earlier this summer I spent a week volunteering at a youth camp for foster kids. Yesterday while I was on my way home from the gym I helped an older woman carry her groceries to the car in an Aldi parking lot. I strongly relate to Clark Kent and view this version of Superman as an aspirational role model.

MCU is science fantasy action schlock that sometimes rises above its producer mandates and genre pastiche to tell a pretty good story, e.g. Infinity War.

Snyderverse thinks the problem with MCU is that it doesn't treat science fantasy action schlock with enough reverence.

Gunn's Superman, Raimi's Spiderman, and Burton's Batman are aware that they're based on a children's comic book.

The best think about David Corenswet's Supreman is that he doesn't think he's better than us. He's a pure soul.

One of the biggest movies of the year is about a guy from a small rural town in Kansas.
