I actually agree now that I think on it. Sonic in his own universe to most people is kind of like a whimsical omniscient fairy that fucks with you, helps you out and then disappears into the wind and no one can explain who he is or where his power comes from.

One of the Twitter Takeovers had Tails explain that he was homeless at some point before he met Sonic, and he developed a fear of thunder and other sudden/loud noises as a result of many uncertain nights.
This does not explain Tails Adventures but that game's in a weird pseudocanon limbo.
