Here's how things will go: Only the japanese market will remain relevant while in the west vidya fades off and is seen as nothing but a fad, the few remaining people still playing vidya in the west will cling to either gachaslop (that is already waning in relevance), GAASlop like fortnite and cawadooty, playing retro games on jailbroken hardware/emulation, or simply sticking to niche genres made by autist nerds like in the 90s, I will remind you 30% or so of all switches sold worldwide are from japan alone.
Japan unironically doesn't need steam even with a functional nintendo monopoly, DMM is still a thing and they have a bigger hold of PC gaming there than steam does, which westoids just love to gloss over to pretend steam has any relevancy there, even DLsite has a bigger marketshare than steam.
Pretty much the only people using steam in japan are snoys that bought a PC instead of a PiS5 pro and it fucking shows with how few paying players are from japan, and how the top game in steam jp is still apex even today IIRC.

The end result is gaming in the west just becomes gacha/GAASlop and solodev efforts, while in japan console vidya goes back to a perpetual 90s golden age with almost nothing outside nintendo first/second party games being localized (if that) and PC gaming goes back to it's pre-windows era of niche eroge with extremely convoluted and complex mechanics and annoyingly difficult gameplay (and JP PC gaming is already most of the way there mind you).
