Looking at his images from Metal Gear days, I am 95% certain that this chigga hired a team of professional stylists to rebrand his image from an awkward game developing nerd to an faux avant-garde auteur.

Kojima and Hollywood is like a single-cell organism being dropped in a petri dish full of random liquid. It doesn't know if the liquid it's absorbing is harmful or beneficial, all it knows is to ABSOOOORB.
Kojima, in his quest to be taken seriously by the film industry, just consooom and regurgitate whatever Hollywood says "this is good" at the moment. Metal Gear was him accidentally absorbing the "good stuff", and his post-Konami era is him regurgitating what post-modern film themes and rhetoric deemed good.
